Stating the obvious here, but I cant help but do so.

There are hundreds of people doing this... on deviantart alone there is dozens of these guys that I have seen doing this, they all share their stuff and work together it seems - and gladly accept the huge praise, sometimes front page plugs getting thousands of hits / views per day and soaking up all the - 'wow your an amazing artist' comments with ' oh thanks, ill be making some new ones soon, so come back to check!! '

Heck It took less than a week after launch before a majority of the Final Fantasy XIII-2 characters were up for sharing, porn is being made with them too - which is often on show on deviantart as well (lol), though they usually catch that stuff fairly quick.

Its frustrating but I dont think its possible to stop these guys, I liken it to the guys who are making counterfeit 'rare' pokemon GBA games and selling them on ebay, and also the guys who make counterfeit gillette mach 3 razors to sell to the unwary.

I dont know if ebay (and devianart) can do anything more than be made aware of who these people are and wipe out their accounts.

But they just setup another account and get right back to it... what do you do, once upon a time when i got really pissed about these things id take up the crusade, but nowadays i have no time to devote to taking down these fools.

in germany there are alot of so called "warning layers" which are like a tumor on the other side of the food chain.

but these guys make money by finding this kind of guy and make them sign a cease-and-desist letter and take money for that

probably one could send one of such peps such a link anonymously.

would get their asses busted and probably in depts, but its like curing cancer with cancer

The bigger problem is that DeviantArt simply doesn't care. They'll remove the 'dodgy' material because it puts them in the most dangerous position with copyright holders and it is the easiest to enforce (because for example 'pornographic' material is clearly what it is regardless of the nature of the characters in it). Anything else will always be swept under the carpet until someone throws a legal threat under their noses.

The only real way to solve the DeviantArt copyright infringement problem is to get rid of DeviantArt.

these guys are irritating and get undeserved credit, but are they really that harmful to us?
No one will hire them for what they do, so they represent no threat to our jobs.

This. I'm just going to repeat whats been said multiple times already. They are just immature kids that like hearing "bravo!" and getting attention in general for easy work (extracting models from games and posing them or whatever).

That kind of behavior is irritating as hell and really disrespectful to the hard work that the actual artists put into. But to me, the fun stops when they actually start making money or get jobs with that. Because thats just pure fraud and there is no excuse for that.

But like I said, I don't think that anyone of those rippers will ever get a job. And if they do, they'll be thrown out in a day since they just can't do what is asked of them.

Yeah absolutely. I don't see what's wrong with the rip in itself and giving them funny poses or whatever, that's essentially what Gary's mod is, but I hoping nobody gets fooled into hiring people who don't have the honesty to say, "Yeah I didn't make that character."

Plenty of these kind of people do make money from this. Not doing "conventional" jobs making games or in a team, but fulfilling "requests" that others have. And there are also people who would pay for that kind of stuff.

Hahaha, this guy is insane! Sadly, it's true that DA is pretty much full of like-minded individuals.

Quite a while ago where I work an "expert" maya user got hired despite having only tutorials in their portfolio. Within very short period of time they were gone because they couldn't even do the most basic tasks. Probably the funniest part was blaming their lack of skill on the "stupid" program :P

Hmmm, I really like this idea for all these guys/gals, one way or another they get what's coming to them... the hard way or not.

I vote this be the action to start taking upon discovery of such fraudulent claims.

    I would, I so would!

Looks like dA has finally taken action on his whole gallery and he's complaining.
Okay I m back and....you can see 90% of my deviantions GONE from my gallery or pending permission. Okay that's cool, I m making fan art and what the hell DA asking to ask permission from the original author?

Even some of the photo I shoot they also ask to me take authorized permission, I AM THE FUCKING ORIGINAL AUTHOR!

by the way, his alleged wife apparently plagiarizes too. I swear that's a traceover or pencil filter of official artwork... shouldn't be all righteous over it.

I'm not sure about his wife... It's not like she's trying to sell the artwork or claim it as her own original art. Haven't you ever had any art exercises in school where the teacher would tell you to draw something exactly the way it looks, be it a furniture, picture or some landscape?

It's nice to see dA at least doing something about the issue; I reported a work of his a long time ago and figured dA wouldn't bother to do anything. This guy still doesn't get it though, he is simply moving "his" work to some other site and repeating the process again; apparently he hasn't learned anything from this, he just thinks the dA admins are discriminating against him.
He must think that people are against what he does for no reason or because others are "jealous" of his stuff, haha.

Oh well, it's good to see that things work out eventually. I can only imagine how many comments he had to censor all day anyway, must have been hard work to keep up with it; if I commented in the past, my comment would be removed within half an hour, so I figure that he must have paid attention to dA for the majority of the day...

It's pretty amazing at the nativity of it all. He does claim on Behance that he made the elf ranger. The problem here is not that he can get away with such a fraud, but that the people who don't know about 3d modelling and games believe him.

There's a sucker born every minute, even for the sake of inflating an ego.

Awareness won't help, because he does delete any comment that sets the record straight, so the only thing left is to ignore him.

I mean all this activity has gained him 78k pageviews on DA...give me a break.

    It's over.

    for now
He just left DA and then went to infest other sites, such as Behance (which I tend to believe is a more professional community than deviantart). Let's see how long his crap stays up on there.

He was actually angry at DA's staff because they wouldn't give him back his submissions, so apparently he hasn't learned a thing from his stuff being taken down. It's like talking to a brick wall, the guy is so dense.

For a while, his deviantart was reactivated, with a few "wip" shots, a stolen car from NFS in wireframes (which made the stealingness more obvious as wires got compared in a comment), the calling of "motherfucker idiots" and an ironic cry of wolf "I have to watermark art thieves steal my work" episode. Eventually the account got deactivated once again.

Also, his behance is apparently gone!

He's from Malaysia. English is not his first language. He also doesn't appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed even in his native language.

Are we seriously going to resort to Facebook stalking people around here? 'Cause that shit ain't right.

Let it go, folks. This kind of small fish isn't worth an internet jihad. This guy is never going to amount to anything, much less a danger to somebody's reputation. Losing sleep about this guy is like a VFX sculptor who studied under Stan Winston worrying about some 3rd grader who can barely make something out of playdough.

Spend the energy chasing some of the scam artist posters around here using good art when they pretend to be Chinese outsource studios. THOSE will actually hurt artists.

I was actually surprised when I saw this on the front page on 30th of May, 2012.

All I can say is. His chances of getting a 3d /2d artist job are slim to none. Its an Art test you have to pass through to get that sort of job. =]

Yeah, kinda have to agree with this.

I mean Facebook and Tumblr aren't exactly known to be the 'Cradle of Art and Artists' at all, so let them do what they do at this point, as long as they don't 'pass' off others works as their own in more well known hubs for art, I don't see why we need to take the extra steps as other peeps said, in stalking and bullying this person.

I mean how many people get an art-test picking from Facebook?
