I stumbled across this a week ago, and I was pleasantly surprised by it!

So the games not even out yet (Valve are planning a large scale BETA sometime in the fall) yet this tournament seems pretty upper-class for an E-sport tournament, big sponsors, and an even bigger prize pool. I've never even played the first Defence of the Ancients but I am definitely going to tune in on the 17th and check it out.
I also think it's a very smart move by Valve to have a tournament of this scale, the amount of interest generated by the prize pool alone is going to be pretty big

A great way to market an RTS/RPG twitch action-game in a market where a few successful others exist already (LoL, BLC, HoN, DoTA 1)
/rant over - What do you guys think?

Replies
@Masterofthefork - Yeah, these guys are practising DoTA 2 at the moment, Gabe Newell made a statement saying that he's watched a few of them practice and he was blown away. I'm pretty sure the competitors werent picked at random. They must have each had some past success in DoTA 1 or any of the other similar games :]
Come up with a good joke and you can win one:

Pretty cool to see some actual happenings with dota 2, been pretty quiet as of late.

You also get 2 extra keys for every invite, as well as older testers getting additional keys throughout the next coming weeks..
Anyone willing to share?
Don't tempt me to look.. But I was told they're $60+.
Grrr... I'm so tempted to do it. Where is this? Ebay?
It's beta for a reason, it may not be everything you dreamed of yet. Seriously if you really need a dota fix play some dota in warcraft 3, it's literally the same exact game. Better yet, play some Heroes of newerth or League of Legends, they're both free and quite good with exceptionally good matchmaking, something you wont find in dota or dota 2 because of the battlnet system or lack of testers.
I beat Chu 1 v 1
I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on that blog for any future opt-in opportunities
I managed to get in finally, so if anyone wants to play, add Killarai.
Edit: I didn't get the email, I don't have extra keys unfortunately.. A friend did.

I'd love to, but I still don't have beta key
EDIT : YEYYYYY !! got my beta key from a friend !!
I gotta retract a lot of the naysaying i did before, the health and man regen from items really makes this game more fast paced than i thought, fucking epic.
Could be really fun to make some character art and lucrative to boot! The dota 2 art style is pretty incredible and modding it should certainly be something to look forward to.
Note: This is only beta and things are subject to change obviously.
It's as close to dota as you can get. Badass.
If anyone's interested I've got a few dota 2 beta invites to spare.
Edit: I'm all out of keys now.

There is also a small debate going on in regards to Dota 2 marketing. Should it be free like League of Legends, or should it be sold at a reasonable standard rate.
Come to think of it, it is almost like how LOL eventually turned out to be. Like they sent many LOL beta invites to other people and all, but later on, you could buy LOL from the EBgames / Gamestop. Eventually, after people bought that box of LOL from EBgames, and after the online store was implemented in LOL, the entire game was wiped and became free.
HON wasnt free to play to begin with, I dont have much experience with HON but now they finally made it free.
Blizzard's Dota is going to free as far as I heard it is going to be a MOD through one of their games.
Finally Dota 2, they have been giving out massive beta invites to whoever applies for them. The question is, will this be free?
Also, if you guys are interested in playing together.
My IGN is [DN]Nitewalkr
Steam name: deathknight23
If possible and someone have an extra GW2 beta key for trade, it would be nice, if not, no harm done.
You could just spectate games then. Or just watch some dang youtube videos of matches.
It would also be fun to do a polycount in house match.
I just want to remind you that there is a polycount group on steam. Join it and we can do an in-house match or whatever
The map is kind of bigger than the one in League of Legends and I think previous dota (Although I havent played dota in a long long time.)
But I must say, if you are a fan of league you will love this game.

I think they are just going to make this game public and add a shop for profit. The way they are producing the game kind of makes you want to believe that its going to be free eventually. =\
Once again, if anyone is interested to have a beta invite, pm me his/her Steam name or add me
My Steam name is: deathknight23
I'd be up for a PC in-house match
I'll check to see if I've got any invites to give out to you guys
same, I still have two invites if anyone wants !! add me on steam znm9999
