So I haven't really got a great deal done this weekend but here's some more progress:
The back is still very bland, I plan to add more tension to the straps around the back, another layer to the overalls at the back, do more with the hair, make the hat seem thicker from the back, make the legs a bit more interesting from behind, create a noticeable attachment for the pack around the back, add a couple tools to it and aurgh blargh yughrhing blarfgh fhlergun splooj.
also cut the hoover short as I think it looks more interesting. With the full length attachment he just looks like he has a walking stick and doesn't hold up well in shots of the upper body.
Will probably move the bottom support strap up so that is directly underneath the vacuum tube so it looks like its resting on it.
But all in all, not much left (other than this stuff)
After this High poly is complete i'll be taking a little break away from the character to work on a WoW-style building for a 'walkthrough' on painted textures I was asked to do... I'll post a picture of the concept somewhere when it's done, should be fun.
cool character and very good sculpting. few comments i have are regarding the placement/orientation of some of the parts.
for example, the vacuum container seems to be completely in the center and facing straight. may be it could help if you add some randomness to the placement and rotation of it. same goes for the small pack underneath the vacuum. also you could add a bit randomness to the strap and some more asymmetry over all.
regardless of those minor issues the character still looks very solid. looking forward to the final model.
wow jon great character, I love him, and actually hehe I was just looking all of your old threads on TGC and it was pretty funny to see that first soldier character you posted on their to then skipping over to this keep up the good work man, I gotta say you're one of my greatest inspirations for getting from their to here, makes me feel like I can do the same you know considering we both started out in the same place. anyway keep up the amazing work fletch!
Full of style & excellent, work!
Can't wait to see more of the progress and hopefully future designs.
EDIT:
I wanted to say that what's going on with his stomach area is fuggin with my head, I keep thinking It's a belly button but I know It's not or is it. AkK :poly122:
I see what you mean, thanks for the feedback! I didn't want it to be perfectly straight so I rotated it a bit, but it's not very visible. I'll rotate it some more, maybe not too wild with the horizontal angle as I still want it to look like it's being held tightly in place.

That's actually a small rip in the overalls to just make the blank space in the middle of the overalls a bit more interesting, but it could be a bit misleading, i'll change the shape a bit. Thanks.

Thanks for your continued support. I cringe when I look back at some of the things I made. (even in recent days) Your stuff is coming along nicely man, keep up the work!
Finally got back to him just recently and just started the texture today so it's still very early and yeah, so on and so forth. Needs a lot of work and I will add some hair planes and tufts and what not later.
Guess I'll call this done, although I may fiddle around with hair but...meh
I'll see if I can pose him up with Mario or something, build a little nintendo'ish scene too, would be cool. I have a rather funny (at least to me) idea that would make a nice backdrop...
Really awesome piece Fletcher ! I love your final piece, this Luigi totally fit with your Brawl Mario. Great psycho expression on his face, and nice reference to Luigi's Mansion with the backpack-hoover. Now I'm waiting to see the bros in a nice background.
I was going to give him shoes but not doing so just added that extra bit of silliness to the character, like he saw a ghost and just ran out after it without putting his shoes on.
And if you don't buy that, he's also a poor bastard.
You'll also notice the hoover isn't even plugged in...making it entirely useless.. psychologically, this guy is a wreck.
Lol Fletch, the tension is building for that group shot! Zomg!
Btw, I was gonna ask at work, but why not here so everybody can see: how are you mostly getting that painterly look with the shader? I imagine it's largely due to the textures, but you're probably using things like half lambert and so ?
Flats! Wires! Group shot! Nice job, consistent style between the two. Have you thought about making a desktop of the two? Id like a desktop. Im sure others would too, hint hint. Actually, I threaten your well being for a desktop of these two...with some pipes, green grass, coin blocks, a few koopas, perhaps a couple of fluffy clouds...:)

yeah, I used half lambert, but as you said it's mostly the textures, I like cavity maps and really defined edges!

^This! Great work Fletch! And sorry to hear you lost some work! If it helps, I wrote a ZTool autosaver a while back (link's in my sig).

Was thinking about scaling the feet up but for some reason it made him look really awkward next to Mario, Cheers for the feedback though!
Would love to see an image of Luigi and Mario together!

Will post flats and a wireframe later today.
