i am not completely sure if that is meant to be skin, seems like it is so, i feel that the color for the belt is so similar to the armor that it feels more like a break rather than actually the way its meant to be...other than that looking nice so far
Thanks, yep thats skin for now, i was thinking of giving her a shirt under her armor though, not sure yet. Should the belt be a different material then you think?
Great paintover of the head-sculpt, gorgeous colors! Also, keep up the studying especially ones where you draw out the planes, that will be more helpful than the value paintings imo
@Allmighty, thanks man, yea the neck is a complete train wreck, its almost disjointed
@Suprore, thanks for the links again man, more heads to come tommorow once i have my mits on my Bridgeman book, will try Conte's "wireframe" technique too!
Legs are a pain.. more figures that look wierd and a micro leg muscle study
After you have studied the general proportional 'rules' ; 8 head theory, width of shoulders (3 heads wide), width of hips , size of hands etc etc. (which takes a while so dont rush).
keep shapes Simple as above. (cylinders for arms and legs, torso). KEep head as round blob. You dont even need to draw out the muscles(i drew them in out of habit). Draw Through the shapes (transparent)
Become familiar with proportions of the body,. Dont attempt any detail or features.
i want to see you start to understand 3d form and proportions.Draw hundreds cups and tumblers at different angles, noting the perspective distortions happening.
HAve hundreds of attemps at those figure photos. With each drawing you will learn something new. But remember. SImple shapes. think mokujin from tekken.
Yea im definately going to be aiming for a more grotesque looking mutant, just doodling ideas over him at the moment, now the extra arm is stitched on instead of an actual growth:
thats a classy looking basemesh so far man, and the concept has some really strong texture to it. The painting would be better if you could throw some shadows and lights in in just to give it some roundness, but I'm stoked to see how the character turns out
I enjoy seeing your steady improvement! On the 2D front, you still have a bit to develop (but hey, don't we all?) However, your improvement in the 3D arena is fantastic! In terms of improving your 2D development, if you haven't checked out http://www.idrawgirls.com/ I would suggest you look into it. Drawing from the imagination is a great and important skill, but you need to make sure you understand what is going on beneath the surface. Personally, I find Louise Gordon's "Anatomical Approach" series to be great references to have. You may want to consider looking into Grey's Anatomy as well.
I'm glad to hear that you are able to take ACTUAL life drawing courses, as distortion from photos can make your images look "off." If you develop an understanding of the human form, and how it comes together, you will "FEEL THA POWA!" I wish the greatest of luck, and hope you continue to follow the passions you possess, and never lose your steam to create.
