I have decided to get some practice with the fairer sex. Since I hardly ever make women I don't expect this to go that well but hay that is what practice is for
A mate from work showed me a concept image for the new "Gotham city imposters" game and I decided to create my own Batgirl. Wish me luck
looks nice man, I like how it's almost the opposite of your usual style as well (proportion wise). at this stage MM's paintover pretty much covers it I think
@ MM: Thanks heaps. That paintover, it really helped.
@ jarrede: Thanks . I am using heaps of ref but mostly I am just noodling around to see if I like what happens......yep.... great workflow. I will post up a ref sheet soon.
Still working on proportions , going to re topo with hands and feet before I go too much further.
As a side note I have changed her from Batgirl to Poison Ivy, she works sooo much better for the direction I want to go.
Still super wipy but there is some progress:
The face still needs a heap of work: She needs more plump in them cheeks.
imagine what it'd look like if her legs were closer together in a normal standing pose... super wide butt.. kinda gives her a ducky vibe.
and those legs are extreemly long.
i'd say that this is even beyond anime.
i'd scale em down just a wee bit.. maybe thats just me tho.
lookin forward to your next update.
I think this character is awesome! If I were to make critiques I'd say maybe should the butt be a lil rounder from the back view? Also I reckon the legs are long and stylized, which cool, but maybe arms should be a bit longer! Does anyone agree? I'm not the best person to be giving critiques on this subject, so I need some backup on this, don't want to give the wrong critique. Character is looking amazing!
It's an interesting direction but she feels a bit disproportionate at this stage rather than pleasingly stylised. You probably really only need some subtle changes to make her work though.
I think if you accentuated the curve on the leg - bulk out the front of the thigh, gave her a more distinct knee and pushed the lower leg back it might help things.
You might like to try lengthening her arms and neck a bit to pull things a little closer to proportion too.
hey Duncan, the body looks great. here is another po for the neck and head position issues i notice currently. the eyebrow issue could be subjective so take it with salt
you could try adding some stylized hair to get a better feel of the character.
anyways, keep going.
Looking good Duncan. I agree with MM's paintover, particularly the neck position, the more angular eyebrows and upper lip shape. Looking forward to your next update.
@ MM: Thanks man . I am not sure why I posted the head shot I have not really done anything with it. But when I do I am totally going to head in that direction. Thanks again.
Here is a super quick ref sheet. I have heaps of ref but this sums it up the best. I guess.
looking excellent, I love the face. MM's paint over really adds to it too.
one thing that you might do is add a little more volume to the back of the head. it looks a bit small.
also the pinch on the brow line looks a little too hard.
looking great there Sir! I'm digging the style and Poison Ivy is much more interesting than BatGirl - but how do you concentrate when looking at all that killer ref??!
@ Daniel Riddle: Thanks man. But she has changed again, mwahahahahahaha
@ r_fletch_r: hehehe Thanks. Yeah when I get around to the head again I am definitely going to smoth that out it was just a landmark for sculpting.
Here we are. I have changed my mind again. Being home sick I spent the weekend doing shitty little paintovers and eventually ended up on this Zombie fighting chick. Zombies ate her pants so now she puts an axe in their face. Everything is placeholder at the moment, just working on a thought.
well... screw it, I'll bite the shame, Sexy model!
Really nice textures and model.
I imagine you'll be making a low poly?
Well in any case, I can expect to see this in the next testosterone fueled game! Oddly enough "Zombies Ate My Pants" sounds like a comedy based zombie game title!
I'd be very interested in knowing your workflow on such a model. Zspheres or Base mesh?
@ Bombshell: Thanks, Yeah I am intending to go through the whole process. In terms of workflow it is not very refined. I started out with Zspheres Then built a quick 5 min low poly base mesh with no hands, feet or ears. Got it back into Zbrush sculpted away, added hands, feet and ears separately. Did another retopo with them in and that was it. most of the things I add in now will be modeled. Once the whole thing is done I will build the low poly and bake, texture, pose and that should be that. Too many steps I know but It is too late to turn back now.
Slowly going through adding my meshes. She looks funny with no hair now. Quick question what is the best way people have found for creating hair planes? I have a few tutorials to go through but I would be interested to know other peoples methods.
Pointless update from me. man I feel like I am traveling at a snails pace with this chick I think I need to speed it up a bit before I get over it and move on.
Only crit is I think her shoulders need widening, and also the top of her chest/clavicle. Shoulder/armpit area looks squashed in right now, and makes her arms look shorter than they are.
Love it man! She's looking great. The only thing that kinda catches my eye is in the back view where her shoulder connects with her back. The teres & lat muscles look a bit pinched - but that might just be me. Looking forward to your next update buddy
@ ironbearxl: Thanks. Yeah she is a bit tight through the shoulder area, I think when I get back to sculpting I will relax her a bit. Good call.
@ r_fletch_r:
@ afisher: Thanks dude . Yeah I need to look at some more ref, and hope that once I sculpt in the t-shirt that whole area will start to look a little more natural. Thanks again man.
@ makecg: Thanks
Not much of an update. Just added an axe, I hope I can get a bit of sculpting done this weekend.
I still think arms are too short, or her legs are too long, she's stylized, but y'know she can't reach for her toes unless she bends her knees!
Charlie brown characters couldn't reach the top of their heads with their hands, because they were cartoon, though, but you have to evaluate if you really want that much of a stylized body for your lady, or you'd rather have a more functional/realistic body.
Cheers, this model inspires me a lot! Wish I get to be this good eventually! thanks!
Good . I think you could improve latissimus dorsi form back near armpit area, and maybe separate pectorals muscle from boobs, and fingers look bit soft - like smoothed too hard, but proportions are great, and she has beautiful face and 'back'
Thanks everyone. Hay you know all that work I was going to do on the weekend? turned out to be very little
Anyway here are my latest shots. going to call the High done for now and start working on the lowpoly. She is starting to look dull and I hope once I start texturing she will come back to life.

Nice one man, MM has it summed up - go go go go go!

Re-Topo, Shorter legs, Head proportion change and a few extra little things. I am now going to get in there and start refining the sculpt.
Thanks again everyone

anything to do with zombies has my vote! good update.

Just added hair planes .

You should dude fine ladies more often man.Amazing work.
Although there is one thing kinda jumping out at me, the knees look kinda awkwardly twisted from the front..
