In the meanwhile I'll post some Biography for those who's interested.
"Once, in an age now found only in myth, there was a man known by the name of Olcadan who was skilled in every kind of fighting art.
With one single exception that had ended in a draw, he could boast that he had been completely undefeated in innumerable duels he had fought. He then turned his eyes to the Gods. He fought and defeated a great owl that was a messenger of the God of war. The angry God cursed Olcadan, turning his head into that of an owl. Upon seeing this curse, the people tried to obtain the Gods' forgiveness by capturing Olcadan. Sorcerers known as the "sages of the oak" were sent after him. They took advantage of the vow he had made in order to become strong and captured him.
The God of war appeared in the form of a headless great owl, and sent Olcadan down into an ancient ruin that sprawled deep beneath the earth.
Unable to find an exit, he gave up and resigned himself to his fate, falling into a deep slumber.
The power of the Evil Seed, however, broke the seal of the labyrinth and Olcadan managed to escape. Stepping out from the labyrinth for the first time in an eternity, he learned that the world outside had changed greatly since his era. However he was not particularly troubled by this fact. Those waves of power that had interrupted his sleep were undoubtedly the greatest power of the era.
He learned to survive in the new world by teaching people the fighting techniques that he had developed by himself, Over the course of several years, Olcadan gradually learned about the new era into which he had awoken. He then decided, in order to restore his combat senses that had dulled over the course of his long sleep, to cut off contact with the world by confining himself inside the labyrinth once more. His goal became to challenge the most powerful opponent of the current era. The opponent is a pair of cursed swords that had been young and weak in his own era, but these weapons, crafted by the hands of man, now rivaled the powers of the Gods."
good to see that you are making your own version of this character, this way you can make it your own
I can see a bit of wow style in the way you make your sketches, which is a good thing! If you can bring that feel to your 3d character it would be awesome...
Waiting for the 3d part before ill do any further comments...
Hey dude- I like the character you picked I had no idea a character like that existed, should be interesting to pull off.
You probably already know about it, but if you want ref on a well done owl, I'd suggest looking at katzeimsack's owl entry last year.
Also- in the concept it looks like you might be going away from the owl look a bit and it's getting more hawkish. Paying attention to the beak and the eyes a bit more can help you out there.
Hey OrganizedChaos Thank's a bunch for your feedback, very much appreciated!
Yea, I did look at katzeimsack's Owl from last years entry, but thank's for the notice!
Your absolutely right according to the Eagle / Hawkish look I have now! Though alot about it.
I'll go change the head / shoulderpad to the more Owlish head, so the story matches!
Again thank's alot for your feedback!

Here's some reference of different owls. Not sure which one to pick, so if you guys could give me your thoughts?
Personally I think I'll make his feathers white, but not sure.
Some of the keywords to keep in mind when picking the owlface, should be "God, Ancient, Holy, Warrior, Power, Wisdom"
Personally id maybe go with nr 4, with nr 3's wide "mane"
Id appreciate if you guys would take a minute to tell me your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

I think he wants to stick to his reference, which is mostly owl i guess.
The face is pretty important, this is where all the character in you model is hidden. So how would you like your character to come over? Strong, Wise, Old, Young, War hardened and so on, but you got some keywords already.
Did he choose to be an owl or was it a curse, if it was a curse he might have a bitter and angry look to him, which again could transferred to the color of his feathers, maybe like this http://tara.barrelofapples.com/photoindex/owl2.jpg
Thanks for your feedback Rick Stirling, I like the idea of another bird! Didnt think about that!
Yea larsgehrt, it was the Gods who gave him a Curse, for killing the Messenger of the God of War, which was an Owl. But I actually like the idea of changing the bird, as Rick Stirling said.
I agree with your keywords larsgehrt, I'll keep on playing around with them, while thinking of another bird.
Thank's for your feedback lads, very much appreciated!

Yea, thought about that larsgehrt, and I think thats what im gonna do.
I'll stick to the Owl'ish look for now, but maybe with a twist of Eagle to it, and with some cool feather patterns to it.
Thank's mate.

man good concept, for a choice the 5th (maybe 4th) is my favorite for expression and agressive looking, the shape is aerodynamics and more figther (for me )
hope you help for your choice
Just my opinion on it, but I'd be careful about mixing birds. That might come off more as confusing than anything else. Like mixing a hawk and an owl might look more like a hawk that has something wrong with its eyes or an owl with too big of a beak or something. People are going to latch onto what they know and recognize and it'll just come off as looking wrong rather than original.
I think larsgehrt was pretty spot on with their advice. It could definitely help you pick a type of owl and how you want to design it once you figure out the direction you're going with (fighter, wisened, old, young, etc) I can't really get a clear sense of emotion from your backstory unfortunately It feels a bit more like a history of the character than who they are.
I think #4 of the owl heads gave you a good combo to run with. And I would second the notion - be careful about mixing types of birds. You've also got to keep in mind that while you're sort of reinventing a character, I think we should still by the time all is said and done, get a good feeling of what character it's representing. Olcadan's pretty traditionally had an owl's head, that's the whole point he was cursed with an owl's head after killing the messenger of one of the gods, I think.
I really liked what you were doing with the masks and overall shape in post #19.
Also, try not to get too hung up on the head. The head's a pretty key indicator of character for this guy inparticular, but you still want it all to fit well as a whole. Try to find a nice flow and style for the entire guy, not just his head.
Thank's the all the great feedback everyone! Very appreciated! Thought alot about what to do, and I'll stick to the original story, which is gonna be the Owl head.
So basicly it will be a human body (athletic proportions) with Owl head, and legs (maybe tail), and then just some feathers on his chest and forarms etc.
Anyway there will be updates monday or tuesday.
Again thanks alot for the feedback - Can't get enough of it

Doing his armor now, and Im not sure whether to put the head of the Messenger of the God of War(Owl head) on his left shoulderpad as a thophy, or if that will be too confusing. Thinking about just making a big Owl statuette head symbolizing an Owl?
The shoulder looks very WoW like, which is not bad at all!
Maybe you should incorporate some of the owl's eye color into the armor in order to get soem consistensy?
Here's a silhouette spinaround.
I'll make his hans bigger and more clawish, and think ill make his torso abit larger, and his eyebrow-feathers larger.
Note that this is without his armor ofcause.
Feedback is very much appreciated.

Found some reference, and will start with the sketching soon.
Think ill stick with something like nr. 3
I'll do some silhouettes of the character tomorrow.
Anyways feel free to tell me what you think.

Colors still missing though.
Gonna be following this for sure!

- Yea, thank's, I'd maybe erase some belt/lower chest armor to reduce his bulkiness Thanks for the feedback!

A vulture could lend a creepy element to it.
...and don't forget Horus.

I would say defo nr 4 and maybe some of this:

I wouldn't make him look to old because he is still a young warrior looking at his body, feather wise I think white is fine with some break-up colors in between...
Did he choose to be an owl or was it a curse, if it was a curse he might have a bitter and angry look to him, which again could transferred to the color of his feathers, maybe like this http://tara.barrelofapples.com/photoindex/owl2.jpg

4 Is very "cool and tough" but 2 is just pure psycho!
Gonna do some last sketches on armor, and then do rough modeling.
Give me your thoughts..
Much appreciated as always!

The shoulderarmor looks to big imo, might be okay, when you have finished the armor, but on it's own, it looks to big.
Still need a hole lot mot muscles, wings, head etc..
I'll make his hans bigger and more clawish, and think ill make his torso abit larger, and his eyebrow-feathers larger.
Note that this is without his armor ofcause.
