@The_Onomatopoeia: thanks man; i'm a smoothing group whore. it's kind of tedious, but my process on the overalls is like... rough mesh from max into zbrush, sculpt in wrinkle shapes, then I bring it back into max, retopo over the shapes with cleaner lines, then cut in detail work and assign smoothing group numbers to literally every poly by hand, even the seams and the sides of seams and shit. if you do it right, when you turbo smooth the mesh you can cut your fingers on those edges. keeps small details rock solid for when you want to bring it back in to sculpt on.
@EtotheRic: thanks, i like how your entry is coming along.
i've got the high res sculpt pretty much done here, the remaing details I will be doing in crazy bump. [seam work / fabric surfacing, scuffing, etc.] these shots represent the different wardrobe combinations I hope to pull off in the end. time to re-topo this bitch.
@FretBoard: thanks, let me know what you think of the completed wardrobe.
@JacqueChoi: thanks dude, wish the poly budget was a bit higher, but i'm going to make the most of it.
Honestly, your Terry is one of my fav in this contest! Such clean and sharp lines, i always liked that style but totelly incapable of reproducing it.
I really like his gruffy appearance i personally like him better without the jacket :]
Oh ya, I forgot to add this crit, it may be small but i think you should beef up the toes of the boots. Right now they kind of deflate, If you square them of and give them a few wrinkles at the crease, it would not only go better with your sharp edge style (which is awesome) it will give him a much more aggressive "gonna kick" your teeth out look.
well i was gonna post a comment here on how good it was looking and i have to say i really like the sketches and the model, but its all been said . keep it up i cant wait to see it finished
i'm hoping to finish the re-topo when i get home from work tonight; don't want to rush the textures and chumpatize this thing.:poly122:
i was hoping to render with the marmoset tool bag when everything is said and done, but this will be my first time doing so. anyone got a link to some basic tutorials so I can hit the ground running? thanks.
@jocz: thanks man, you gonna pull off bulletta in time?
@Apostolon: thanks for the kind words, i'll be sure to post the low poly when i get a nice bake out of it.
@spine: glad you like 'em spine. I'm going to build the low poly to allow for with or without the jacket. cross your fingers, the poly budget is so damn low.
@onelunglewis: really appreciate the drawover dude. i'll be sure to bulk up the shoes a bit and add the creases. also hoping to have one tongue from the boot hanging out from under the pant cuff. it's a careful balance because i want his silhouette to narrow and taper towards the bottom.
@EtotheRic: i know, i'll do what I can to pull the lunchbox off. I'll be disappointed myself if it doesn't happen.
yo awesome piece the stylization is ace, as for crits id say it appears as tho his belt (the big) is floating there rather then around his waist, Great work!
This dude is rad, although I personally feel the sharpness you've got going on in the cloth is slightly too much. I find it quite distracting to look at. Plus you've got a couple of hard plane changes in there that may end up biting you in the ass when baking.
But this is awesome otherwise! Keep going man!
Clothing + texturing = pure win. The skin however is very dull and bleak imho. I seriously suggest you touch that up before submitting.
edit: woops, saw that you already submitted!
wow nice finals!
I wish you chose a full stuff pic hat + jacket for your finals, it gives him this serious and cool attitude, but it's great like that too congrats

The normal map bakes are going to read exceptionally well.
Great job!

can't wait to see how this turns out
your concept is terrific, nice idea
realisation is also a master piece with your sharp edges treatment
Thanks for the explanation on the technique.
