[.] well, i'm not finished with the body sculpt, but this is what i got so far...pretty happy with the silhouette and posture though. while much of the skin will be covered with clothing, I still want to develop the muscle definition [in the arms especially], because terry's jacket will be removable. his t-shirt will have cut-off sleeves underneath too. I was originally thinking of modeling him without the pony tail, but after painting in his hair and beard as a test, i gave it a shot, and i think it looks pretty badass.
Something seems to have gotten lost in translation between the concept and the model though as the silhouette of the concept looked a lot stronger then the the actual models. The model may have muscle definition but it seems to lack those strong shoulders or that personality in the face that the concept has. The nose in the concept looks higher up which gives him a much stronger jaw (masked albeit by the beard) but on the model its not as character defining.
I really like the concept and hope the model comes up trumps. Good luck mate.
@Baj Singh: thanks for your comments man, now to address your concerns with the shoulders in the silhouette... i'm planning on using the shapes and lines of terry's jacket model to create the hulking / rounded shoulders that you see in the concept. the material will bridge the gaps in his muscle definition as it stretches across the width of his upper shoulders. [know what i'm saying?]
as for the face, i haven't spent much time on it yet, but I will keep your comments about the nose in mind as i move forward. i'll post some more renders once I work that area up a bit more.
Another favorite character. Great twist on him. Drawing is excellent and this is looking good already. Chest muscles could be droopier and less defined. This would also apply to his biceps as well, since he is older.
Pretty nice! But it appears to me that you lost skull geometry, when i look at your concept i see that the head is shorter and front part more angular.
Keep it up!
Love those shapes ,man i was about to ask how you made that hair look so great in 3d,but when i look closely it's drawn over it haha (it IS paintover, right?), looking forward to see how this one develops
@Maph: thanks Maph, i really wan't to try and nail those flowing hair pieces in the model. so you are into the pony tail?
You bet! The pony tail pretty much rocks. Although I'd put in something more interesting then a just an elastic band at the end.
How did you end up with the nice crisp and clean curves of the hair in ZBrush btw?
The translation of 2d to 3d couldn't be better! Very impressive man, really. My only comment is that with this muscular body, he doesn't look so old by now. Something about 40s, I guess. To look older, I think skin needs a bit more of gravity's action.
But, it's just an impression. The work is awesome, so far.
@rv_el: your haggar is looking great; and thanks for the compliment.
@g2000: haha, yes. the hair is a paintover, but I hope to execute the mesh as closely as possible in zbrush. Thanks dude. your cody is coming right along.
@Maph: sorry, guess i wasn't clear enough in my notes. the hair is just a paintover, but I'm going to follow the same lines with mesh. glad you are pro pony.
@jramauri: thanks man, yeah i'm trying to hit a mid 40's age range [but still jacked]. I did some more work last night, will post again when I can.
@Crash: don't worry, i got you covered! i'm going to model the hat, but it will be removable. [he needs something to throw in the renders, right?]
Everyone else covered everything, so I just want to say I really like this. I especially dig the angle that his head and beard create in the 3d version, although, I suppose that is even more exaggerated in the concept.
[.] i didn't get much done tonight, but i did work on the face and some more body details. I also wanted to post this little color comp here, because I have a feeling that some of you may have thought I was giving terry white hair, but i have been planning on the golden locks. not trying to age him too much.
@JMYoung: thanks, your duck king is looking cool too.
Hmm, I was imagining something like Hulk Hogan's hair color. When he was young, you could tell it was blond but now that Hogan is older its going more like bleach blond/white.....I don't know. Perhaps adding some type of variety like that to it when you start coloring it in.
Oddly, enough I ran across this when trying find an image of the hair color....o__o

you are totally, right, i was putting the image together late last night and its way too yellow. even if you look at terry's recent kof 12 sprite, his hair is very light. thanks.
[.] ok, so it took me a little while to block out the beard/hair/ponytail to my satisfaction; but things should move more swiftly from here on out. i'll be using an alpha treatment at the edge of the hair polys, but i still want to retain this hard surface planar-ized look. started work on his undershirt, just laying the wrinkles in now. everything still WIP.:poly142:
@Karl Stjernberg: thanks Karl, glad you like. nice avatar BTW.
Really great update, Perlz. Loving the silhouettes and the planar forms of the hair and the way the light catches on them. The veins on the arms are looking good - try not to cover them up completely when the jacket goes on.
Poly lickin' good! This Terry will be kick ass when done!
I think the only thing that bothers me is where his hair begins to flow down from the back of the head. I don't know if that was your intention or not...
started blocking out the overalls last night, nothing big to report.
@FretBoard: thanks dude, glad you are liking the hair shapes. terry will be able to show off the guns with the removable jacket, that's the plan anyway. also one jacket sleeve will be pushed up a bit on the forearm.
@dang87: the extreme angle on the hair was intentional, meant to echo the cut of the beard from a side profile. probably a little too flat top right now though, might relax that edge a bit. thanks for the feedback.
sick hair flows.... i knew his hair wouldnt disappear into his back like you drew it... you exaggerator!:D ... i really cant stop looking at this hair sculpt, it is my favorite. mallika approves...
Completely frekkin awesome! That said, right now, he looks like my other favorite KOF character - terry's brother - Andy Bogard. Might be worth adding the iconic hat somewhere, maybe in his pocket or out of his construction box.
My Favorite part is where the angle of the nose matches perfectly with the beard. Sweet stylization! Looking forward to seeing his outfit come together.
[.] terry's overalls are now underway, i still haven't refined the wrinkles and surfacing, but this is where i'm at. doing the suspenders next, so I can resolve the positioning of the t-shirt. I wan't to do my best to retain the billowing in the back, so i may end up having one strap unbuckled.
aiming to get the high rez wrapped up by next weekend. [or close to it. :shifty:]
@mitcHELL: haha thanks dude. the hair took a while to block out, so i'm glad you think it paid off.

@YBourykina: thanks for the compliment.
@Junglehermit: cool, check out the body sculpt i've got started and let me know what you think.
@Parnell: hold your horses parn. where is your thread at anyway?
@david-richardson: thanks, I appreciate it.
@CapAmer1ca: I'll do my best to capture the sharp lines of the wrinkles in the clothing.
@Mark Dygert: hope you stay tuned to see things develop.
@mitcHELL: here it is dude, the start anyway.
@BoBo_the_seal: thanks bobo, glad you're into it.
@Ithoual: nice, hopefully progress will move a little more quickly now that i have the basic silhouette down.
@BogdanbI4: thanks, your cammy is look'n hawt.

Looking sweet man! He's got that kung fu master look lol
Keep it up!
@womball: thanks, i think the overall definition in the biceps should probably soften up a bit too.
@Vegas: nice, glad you think so.
@dang87: haha, yeah i think his sharp eyebrows are giving that impression, i might need to make them a little thicker.
@Hamish: thanks for the comment dude.
@The_Onomatopoeia: will do, I can't wait to see the clothes blocked out myself.
@CapAmer1ca: do you mean the overall height of the skull?
@Maph: thanks Maph, i really wan't to try and nail those flowing hair pieces in the model. so you are into the pony tail?
Good to see people digging into different territory.

@dang87: thanks for the ref man.
@POWER: thanks POWER, loving your kabal.
@duncan: cool, glad you are amped up about this. i'll be checking in on your thread too.

@Crash: cool dude, please continue to check-in.
@akacg: going for a looser ponytail in the back, have a look at the hair mesh.
@mitcHELL: trying to go for removable jacket, but it's gonna be tight poly wise. v-neck underneath with cutoff sleeves.
I think the only thing that bothers me is where his hair begins to flow down from the back of the head. I don't know if that was your intention or not...

@Parnell: hey Parn, thanks for stopping in.
Did this homage to Terry myself a few years back - http://www.aimanimation.com/polycount/terry.jpg
Keep rocking!

@NuclearWarrior: cool, ha thats the plan anyway. thanks for looking.
@aimanimation: good to hear from another terry fan, nice tribute there! oh and I do have plans for his hat...
@onelunglewis: better late than never, thanks man. your ol' prospector is looking sweet.
@Maph: thanks for the feedback Maph, I still need to get the eyeballs appended. :poly142: i'll be sure to get the squint right in the end.
@Jamizzles: thanks, glad your are digg'n the silhouette.
