I'm ok, and so is fellow polycounter bilbana. Was pretty scary though, especially high up in an office building. For a moment I seriously didn't know if that was gonna be it. Like your whole body and mind is just straining to figure out just how bad it's gonna get. Then it finally subsided and everybody got the hell out of the PRETTY cracked-up building, mildly shocked and laughing nervously. Went out to grab lunch to try to push myself back into normal rythm, sit down at my favourite pasta joint (in a crummy basement) tense like a spring and WHAM fly out of my seat at the aftershocks. From that moment on I was hanging around outside cherishing a cup of sake before heading home with all the other thousands of people. Not fun! I hope Lamont is ok, I seem to remember him living in Gifu or Gunma or something, which is way inland.
Oh man been keeping tabs on this all day. Worried about Lamont and the other PC'ers over there.
My mate who's working in Tokyo told us his story of how he was on the 11th floor when it happened and the walls were just warping like mad and he thought the building was going to fall down.
They know their stuff over there with their skyscrapers. Building stayed sound and everyone was able to evac safely.
Nature is truly amazing. Engineers are life savers.
It's just been reported that a Tokyo's north nuclear power plant has exploded. A dammaged reactor has spread radiation through a blast wave and smoke, no one knows how far it will extend but it sounds serious.
wow, first a giant earthquake which they survived pretty well thanks to their amazing engineering and building codes, but then a tsunami no one could prepare for, then after shocks and now a nuclear disaster...
I would offer PC'ers in Japan a spot on my couch but after reading about how the northwest is a powder keg waiting to happen and how our building codes aren't really set up to handle the mega quake we're probably going to have... I wouldn't wish two disasters on anyone. Besides you might bring quake cooties with ya and end up lighting the fuse...
So... anyone want to buy a condo in the next disaster area?
Seriously thinking about leaving the northwest... I love ya but fuck you if you're going to try and kill me.
Also a co-worker has family in Japan in the southern region I think, and they're alright, freaked out, panicked and not sure what's next but they're alive.
It does, some power plant employees got a year worth of radiation in just one hour.
I think we're getting tchernobyl number two here... I hope I'm wrong, but everything seem very similar...
Except Tokyo is not an Eastern Europe outskirt right behind a middle of nowhere.
The news are terrible, but I still hope that technology has made a leap for the past 20 years, and they will be able to handle the radiation leaks with minimal loss.
I'm still impressed how low the victim's numbers are, considering they have a number equal to 4/5 of Russia's population squeezed into a thin island chain.

I agree we could all learn a thing or two from Japanese construction methods and earthquake mitigation programs. Also I hear the reactor most in trouble was built in the 60's...

WHile I agree about their building ethics (although this is true to office buildings and instutional building not much to moddest class houses), I'm not sure the same apply about nuclear containment, I'm pretty much sure we're equal on that issue :x
As for human loss report, let's say they have not really started counting yet (but I still wish these first estimations are pretty accurate regarding their numbers)
glad all the polycounters are ok. Let's hope we hear from Lamont soon. I've been following this very closely, especially the incident in the nuclear power plant, since I'm here in Asia. My prayers are with the Japanese people. Let's hope they recover from this quickly.
We feel so helpless. Humanity and life is such a fragile thing, a miracle, while some people are still stickied in xenophobia and patriotic shit. We are all one people, and the news are really sadning me. Those days should learn us respect for life, and nature.
My thoughts to all the people affected, eventhough it doesn't help anyone i post this here. Just wanted to tell my feelings
are you shitting me? are 'mercans really that fucking stupid? (note, 'mercans aren't regular americans).
i've seen a plenty of Russian morons being all ecstatic about tsunami and stuff because JAPAN WANTS OUR (formerly Japanese) ISLANDS BACK!1 THEY SHOULD DIE AND GOD WILL KILL EM WITH FIRE!11
I really wish retards were not allowed to type on the internet, but they are. (
I'm here. Gonna roll into town and help out. My village is in the mountainside, so we just got tossed around. Thanks everyone .
That's great to hear, thanks for taking the time to check in and good luck with all the aftermath.
I gotta say, this whole thing's had me a tad rattled myself and I'm in nice cozy middle-of-the-US-no-chance-of-earthquakes-at-all Iowa. It's just been nuts checking out that footage. I mean really, a world without Japan is hardly a world at all these days. Let's hope the death count stays low, I'm surprised it's as low as it is (though I guess we're still early on). When I was 13 I met my present day wife, THROUGH POKEMON. True story, we both thought fire pokemon were the shit. That's like, Japan is responsible for my marriage. In an odd, roundabout sort of way.
jeeze... some people sure know how to hold a pointless grudge
I had a lengthy discussion about the circumstances of that unstable nuclear reactor with a couple friends tonight. All I can say is I'm glad I'm not surrounded by people like those in that image...
Wondering what is truly the best route for donations?
Those who want to help can go to www.redcross.org and donate to Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami. People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.
28,437 members x $10.00
=
$284,370 in tax deductions

( assuming active members living as US citizens that is... still. )
Those people going on about pearl harbour and how this is some kind of karma or payback are the worst kind of stupid. They conveniently forget (or are most likely just too stupid to even realise) that the US already retaliated for the 2,000 dead at pearl harbour by dropping atom bombs on japan and killing some approx 200,000 people, most of which were innocent civilans; women, children, etc.
If there were ever an alien race looking for an excuse to eradicate mankind, these kind of people would be prime candidates.

Things look very bad at the Japanese TV...
But, leave it up to Japan to already have public transport working again, they are fucking incredible people.

And now I'm nauseous again...
Jesus christ, those people should be rounded up and sent to clean up the disaster area in a chain-gang.

Yeah but to their credit, the American ones are louder due to number, and media gives them a bigger soapbox.

Awesome news, I'm glad to hear you (and your family I hope) are ok!
Stay safe out there.

Apartment and office are trashed.
Scariest thing to go through ever.

As for the facebook douchebags bitching about karma. I guess it's going to suck when karma comes knocking for Hiroshima and Nagasaki...
It's really stupid to talk about karma because of pearl harbor or russian (wich are not russian ) islands. How these people may think so?
Jesus someone sick 4chan on those assholes please...
