giles: try to get some more shapes in that body and head, i think a trex head would be a good example and maybe have some spine protruding at the top
HAL : cool i think 2 is a good choice, you want those female curves in there and if you would add too much techstuff it could get lost although you could do that but not let it show in the front silhouet
Also for the face it would be nice to still have some female shapes in there.
I do love me some Warhammer 40k, so I'll put in an entry. So far the best suggestion I've had is to do the Joker in 40k, so that may be what I end up doing.
Ravenslayer, you've got an interesting challenge to overcome.
when they sculpt the miniatures, they sculpt the armour into the shape of a woman, they don't sculpt it AROUND the shape of a woman.
gir: tnx yeah it's a trial and error thing atm just trying to find out what works best
giles: that's good ref , i usually like some reallife ref on the side because it helps you understand the construction of certain elements
small update especially worked on the body trying to give it more form
wow this is really cool. I love the idea and im really likein all the progress im seeing other do and there ideas. Nice work everyone so far. After i get some of my other projects out of the way i think ill join. I have till march 7 .... i think i can do it ha
Thanks Gir, I used the Joker for inspiration (I made me Batman/Joker chapters for DoW), and I thought Nurgle, but probably Chaos Undivided. I wasn't sure what to make so someone made the suggestion for me :P

good luck, and it's already looking good
kind of gir, normaly you would sculpt up a base anatomy and then add the edges of the armour plates and blend them into the base, rather than sculpt the full plate....does that make sense? stuff like space marines are exactly as you say thopugh, armour that happens to look like a person rather than a person in armour.
I dont have any real time till Feburary to get into this but I had a few hours to sketch something out this evening....ended up with this:
this might sound a bit off-ish, and i'm sorry if it comes off that way. but i'd take what you've got now, and change your concept based on it. to something like one of the Necromunda gangs. they're pretty gnarly.
for those that didn't know, Necromunda was a gang based game set within an imperial hive world. fights always took place within crowded city blocks, you could climb, jump down on people etc.
there were some awesome designs in that game.
More details getting fleshed out. I've also just realized that this guy is almost completely asymmetrical, which means I'm going to have to make a decision about that. I'm thinking some of the smaller armor pieces will be cloned, but I'll take a look at the guidelines again and think on it.
EDIT: Did more work on the grayscale, it's at a point where I can start modeling, I think.
HAL: i still like the idea , maybe you should add some lines that break up the legs a bit
also maybe it would be cool to add some sort of clams from the machine on the back to the sides of the body so you have that transition from back to front
Der Hollander: nice evil design, i do suggest making the legs less cylindrical at the bottom
So i took some more time in between trying to animate a horse for my exams (urg animating) and i tried some stuff on the character
i'm working in a messy way, some things are detailed and others arn't , the body for example doesn't have any fine details yet so those patched on nipples aren't what they should be :P

if a sister were to show any flesh from the neck down (barring the hands and feet at mass), they'd be flogged.
unfortunately this leaves you with few options. you could go with superbadass sister of battle. or, turn her to chaos. which would actually be far more interesting, as there are literally no "heard of" sisters turning to chaos. would mean changing all of her iconry to one of the chaos gods, and maybe giving her a mild mutation. but it would definitely be interesting

tnx for the advice gir,
i don't know anything about warhammer so it's good that you are pointing that out ( it even took me some time at first to realize that sisters was meant in a catholic nun way and not just a feminine group of warriors :P)
I don't want to dress her up too much and i'm not for the mutating part either but i did like the necromunda you posted. They seem to have more of the thingsgoing on that i want in the character so i'll just loose the crosses and give her some more of those badass elements.
@ravenslayer: I don't Know about Breaking up the legs, will doodle a bit around though adding some clamps for the backpack / shoulder area sounds like a Great idea though

Well not exactly catholic (those miniature photos are actually misleading), they follow the belief in so called God-emperor
Sorry to be WH40k purist, but the crosses are out of place.:nerd:

this is gonna be good to see I like the progress Ravenslayer, my piece has taken a bit of a back seat of late, not sure whether to do something a bit more interesting, push myself a lot more, like do a chest piece of armour with etchings on, idk
Got me a sculpt happening, I'm not too familiar at all with zBrush (read: first real head sculpt) so there's bound to be some quality issues. I'm gonna start working on the armor, but I can always go back and revisit the head if need be. The last render in the frame is with perspective distortion on, not sure if that's a no-no or not. Learning!
I was wondering the same thing myself on the "deadness" of this comp. I haven't had time to update my project, and the lack of postings isn't exactly helping my motivation. I'll try to get some more up this week, though.
I'd like to submit my concept to the OP to determine if it can be approved for further design or not. It's squid and human hybrid of badly stiched parts, gene splicing, and well you know a giant mouth on his back.
EDIT: Wrong topic, thought this was the one for the animal hybrid challenge sorry
Got test bakes for the head, the baking turned out, which is good, but I think I need to readdress the low poly of the head mesh and the UV unwrap. Also, gotta love that good ol' Maya viewport. I updated my vid card drivers, and now I can't use High Quality, only Viewport 2.0...

did some blocking

For the head i will be using this image and a few others to get the "tyranid" look that most of the 40k models seem to have:

you're quickly moving further and further from the concept. sisters of battle get more and more "holy" as they become more badass. for example

best be a classy ork der boss
Edit: You jerks are making me want to do this because of my unconditional love for 40k..I'll see what my weekend looks like..

I completely agree.
Dunno about the shape of the head, for some brutal chaos sterioid eating version of the joker he looks a bit to sleek
Interesting... that blockout stuff is really handy changeing stuff here and there till you're satisfied without the need to keep the mesh clean
on a side note: is this dead?
@Der Hollander: nice head!
