Sna : Yeah I keep it at this price to avoid any surprises - plus there is now going to be a paint job on it which means more factory work involved. As said earlier it miiiight go a little lower but I don't want to have bad surprises near the end, especially since I also have shipping to cover, and so on...
Lenny : it certainly crossed my mind - along with some other ideas too But first things first, right!
Mini update! The edited master is ready - now with a round base.
(on the top picture there is a gap at the junction of the arms - but that's just because the master doesn't have the magnets inserted The final products snaps perfectly, like on that second picture showing an unit from last year's first batch.)
The factory I am working with had other orders lined up but things are freeing up now. We started the prototyping process for the paint - we went through iterations already, as the first pass looked too glossy. Now we are using a slightly different material, looking more like a fine arts plaster which works great for the raw white side and provides a great bright foundation for the colored red side. Needless to say I am super excited
(of course you can disregard the masking tape on the face and the temp putty holding the arms before the insertion of the magnets )
I am still waiting on more updates since she is still supposed to receive a very slight shading pass on the face - not unlike makeup - to add depth and contrast to the mouth, eyebrows and eyes. Hair is also supposed to be less dark - more like a 80% grey instead of black. Stay tuned!
MikeF : when it comes to refining I leave it up to the factory I am working with. They put their pride in using the best machine available *and* make touch-ups if necessary (if something doesn't print right for instance). However this is a fairly simple print in terms of undercuts and overhangs thus I would think that the statuette is pretty much straight from the printer. The casting process can also smooth out things a little but the casts from the first batch were extremely sharp and detailed hence I supposed they simply have a fantastic machine!
Is there any chance you'd still be able to bump up the order quantity from the factory you're working with? I'd definitely be interested in throwing some money down for one of these
Hi there LoTekk - I know for sure that I will have at least 12 for PC as said earlier - but I might be able to get more done. It's just a rough estimate for now - as soon as production starts I'll simply ask for confirmation from people who showed interest earlier, and then put the extras for a first come, first serve grab again
im a huge pior fan and would be down if the stylized sculpt was posed more like natural figure anatomy (it would also show where the important loops are and why). a pose helps sell the character of it more, and is more interesting(since it is a style piece). the proportions and style are so personal, it just feels off a bit to see it in tpose. nicely done though
r
Regarding price : I am aiming for it to remain 150$ since this was the cost of the first grey one.
As for the pose, Messiah : I tend to agree! I am working on the male at the moment and this one will have a natural, relaxed art model pose. That way the male and female statues will complement each other
This is pretty much dead on - there is a very faint touch-up to be done on the eyebrow but besides that the V2 prototype is pretty much ready for production. I am very, very happy with the look : one half looking like an artsy black and white picture, one half looking CG-like. Yay!
Cool - I'll keep the thread alive to make sure that everyone can double check everything
As for shipping, there should be no issues - it's part of the price, and regarding the packaging itself the one from last year was excellent, with packing foam cut to fit each piece nice and tight.
Arrg! I've been wanting one of these, but I keep getting into financial problems every time you announce a new batch coming. I hope I'll be solid by the time you take orders for these, they're awesome.
I received the first painted unit of the updated v2 design right after the holiday break. It was sent by the factory for me to inspect the paintjob and give them the green light for the final steps of production. Needless to say I am very happy with the quality! The red is nice and deep, the white has a slight marble quality to it and the added AO/makeup on the face really makes the features pop while keeping them subtle. I am happy!
Here are a few pictures. Thanks Renaud for the smoothest shots !
I received quite a few questions regarding the availability of this new version. I answered everybody personally but here is the rundown :
- I expect to get the full shipment of painted statues pretty soon since the factory is actively working on them. However I would rather not make up an ETA for now since from experience I've learned that these things tend to always take more time than planned... You can be sure that I'll update the thread as soon as I have the units in hand.
- Price remains the same than the grey one from earlier, 150$ with shipping (USA). International shipping might add a dozen bucks, butt I'll let you guys know.
- A little while ago, when I announced this new batch I asked who was interested in getting one of the 12 units I was setting aside for PC. Now as soon as I get the final units I will contact all these people again to know if they are still interested. And if someone does not want it anymore, that means someone else can have it
- Regarding extra units : There will be more available in the coming batch than the first 12 that are already reserved. I still have to figure out the number but yes, there will be a few extras for grabs, announced here.
- For now this is still a very "garage kit" kind of operation - everything is pretty much done by word of mouth. If there is interest for even more units in the future I might set up some kind of ebay online store to make things easier, but for now it'll have to be all done with PMs here ... I hope it's okay!

Next steps : painted prototype, then production!

I'm interested in buying one;
Third batch maybe - you seem heavy with orders!

Anyway, latest pictures look awesome, can't wait
