Hello PCers, long time no pimping!
For the last few months I have been busy with a little side project. It organically evolved from a basemesh rework, to finally end up as the idea of a new educational tool for artists.
The point is to provide a physical guide to stylized female anatomy and form, as well as a template for subdivision modeling loop placement. These elements are shown respectively on the two halves of the figure, not unlike an ecorch

By the way pictures 4, 6 and 7 are timing out for me, don't know about anyone else.
pior... no words can describe....
only this......
i want one. like... really, really bad.
yeah... set a deadline... take orders, then make a second run when the funds are in.
Really cool man, and gotta agree on how awsome the complete female one is too. Doing seperate prints of each would be radpants... albeit mega expensive :P
I will buy one!!!
$150 for this is a bargain if you compare to other education stuff out there and considering how unique this is I think that it will sell quite well. If and when you run a 2nd batch I'm down for sure... no question about it.
I'm not seeing any info about this other than your say-so, not even any links. Meanwhile, there's a model here with excellent topology reference at a reasonable price that's not possibly infringing copyrights and it's from a fellow Polycounter to boot.
Anyway, I'd be interested in buying one of these as well. A nice, solid reference you can hold in your hands beats out anatomy books, orthos or renders any day.
To adress Achilles point : To be fair I never advertised it as a "deal". This is just me trying to get something released at a small scale, in a similar fashion to garage resin kits, and trying to see if friends are interested in it. When I saw that the original 10 copies were getting reserved quick amongst friends and coworkers, I realized I could save one for PC. Theres was a waiting list already so I thought I could ask here who wants to maybe get a copy whenever I get more done from my caster.
As for Shapeways : I actually used them to output my early prototype, in order to check for possible proportion problems or anything wrong that could stand out that i didnt catch in the 3D stage. If you use their cheapest, lowest quality material (sandstone) it should end up around 150 indeed. There is no way they could get even close to the precision shown here tho ; also, this is not a 3D print in the pictures, but an actual cast from a mold fabricated especially for it, and the end material is Polystone, not the usual 3D print resin stuff.
Plus it comes with magnetic arms and head, a base, and so on. (not trying to convince anyone here, just stating the differences).
As for the second batch, I supposed it *might* end up making the unit price a little cheaper but I cannot guarantee anything yet. One thing is sure, is that since Ill have a bigger number, ill have to setup an online store kind of thing because I do not want to bring up any money discussion here on Polycount, as this is just not the place for it.
Hope it clarifies everything!
Thanks again for the feedback. Moose, yours shouldnt take too long
Firebert : yeah Ill have a date whenever my caster can confirm the second batch schedule. As for the payements, I totally go paypal since I heard that it is very easy for a buyer to cancel a purchase through it in case anything goes wrong - it just seems safe on both sides. Ill take orders only once I have at least half of the second batch at hand, proving it with pictures
Regarding a skin-only version : it could be done I think if I go that way I could pose it ... or maybe somehow find a way to make it into an articulated body. Thats a whole other project tho hehe.
Would love one but $150's a bit steep for me... maybe for my birthday.
Will keep an eye out for an eventual second batch.
This is slick mate. Wish I could get one haha. Great work dude.
I like to look at what Pior is doing here as not only educational, but also his first foray into selling his sculpts, which I would be inclined to buy for sure. It's an artistic venture, and I'm glad he has the confidence to sell it at such a modest price (you could ask more :P)
however, i dont find this very educational.
lot of the anatomy on this model seems inconsistent in terms on style i.e. planar areas in some places and curved organic areas in other areas.
now, that being said this is a very good work of art and in terms of stylization seems to be entirely subjective - one example being the legs are way too big.
for educational purpose i would rather see a more generic proportion body with planar interpretations of the anatomical forms.
something like these but for the whole body:

http://philippefaraut.com/store/reference-casts/planes-of-the-face.html
http://philippefaraut.com/store/reference-casts.html
when the sculpt style is so personalized like yours i dont find it educational and i think it would actually not help people understand how stylization by simplification of the forms works.

Would love to purchase one if there is another batch made.
Second batch, bay-bee!
im in!
