The characters just look kind of odd. I still don't really see any reason why the film makers deemed it necessary to make the whole thing CG. There's nothing there they couldn't do with real actors and the occasional prosthetic nose.
Don't get me wrong, I love me some Tintin and I'll probably be at the cinema with my ticket money on day one, I'm just inclined to think that it would likely have been cheaper and potentially would have looked better with real folks playing Tintin, Captain Haddock and co.
The characters look almost scary to me - they have that wierd mix of stylised structure and realistic surfacing which looks like somebody streched an old man's skin across a muppet.
My opinion could totally change once we see it in motion though if the animation unifies everything somehow.
I really don't like it at all. I've exactly the same feeling that FAT_CAP described above. On top of that, I literally hated all previous Zemeckis's projects using the same technique. It just doesn't work for me.
I can already see how THIS is gonna ruin one of my oldest and favorite childhood universe...

the thing about live action is that you can't make extraordinary situations without making it look fake, just look at Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as an example.
But if you use exclusively CG everything blends much better, and in this case, I see CG only as an evolution from Tintin's traditional animation.
Personaly I don't see anything wrong with the characters looks, and the overall style seems pretty faithfull to the original. I didn't even know they were making a Tintin movie, but now I'm excited about it.
I like that style. the mixture of "normal" things with comic style is great and tastes a bit fresh. It is clear that not everybody will like some fresh uncomon ways in style.
These characters are true to the spirit of the drawings. I'm kind of liking it at the moment, although I do hate all of Zemeckis animated works with a passion.
I am with FAT_CAP and Renaud, it just doesn't cut it for me. I will ignore this the best I can manage, so I hope it will tumble down the stairs to tomb of oblivion in due time...
I don't get an uncanny valley feeling at all really.
The eyes could be a little too 'real' but that's about the only part which might be a bit freaky if they push the realism too much. The rest is so far from lifelike my mind accepts it without questioning it.
Seeing it in motion is the only real way to tell however.
The young CG Jeff Bridges in the new Tron however is horrid.
As long as it works well in motion, I don't really like the look of the characters in the first 3 screen shots, but I think the characters look awesome in the 4th, so I'll wait on judging it.
I think it's the close-up of Captain Haddock that disappoints me the most. The characters in the other shots that are further from the camera all look pretty good. It's all those extraneous details in the skin texture and those unnervingly realistic eyes that make Haddock look creepy. I don't know why Zemeckis is seemingly so obsessed with this ultra realistic aesthetic. A more simplistic treatment of the skin would suit the characters much better I think.
I'm still intrigued to see this. The people involved with it (Peter Jackson, Spielberg, Edgar Wright etc.) all have great pedigree and the cast is excellent. I guess we'll have a better idea of how it all comes together visually when the first trailer hits.
I am honestly excited. I heard Jackson, Wright and Spielberg are helming this as directors, hopefully the two former can keep the latter from turning it dull :P
The first teaser trailer is up. CG still looks utterly, utterly redundant http://www.movieweb.com/movie/the-adventures-of-tintin-secret-of-the-unicorn/trailer
I guess it looks ok, but mostly the whole undertaking just annoys the hell out of me. Someone needs to slap Robert Zemeckis around until he agrees to stop making quasi-photorealist CG films and convincing other film makers that it's a good idea.
Nah, dull like everything released after Jurassic Park

were all soooo dull :P
I will agree that some of his latest movies kinda suck balls, AI and KOTCS, but speilberg has directed such a wide pallete of movies, even quirky ones like the terminal have something interesting to be found in them.
when he has directed so many movies, I would venture to say hes a master of the craft who occasionally stumbles here and there. 5-10 meh movies in a backlog of ~50 aint too bad. Ill give this a chance for sure.
the lighting in some of those shots looked fantastic, ill be interested to see a more enlightening trailer before I start bashing it. it seems adventure movies are a dying breed these days.
Very nice transition. Want to see more. It looks like it stayed true to the style and look of the original comic book. Tintin was one of my favorite comics I read when I was a kid.
well, the original tintin cartoon isnt going anywhere. 2d animation is great, but I'd rather have them try this out than retread old ground.
On a side note, Joe Cornish cowrote the script! Got big hopes for this one.
I didn't mean like the old cartoon though, i meant.. like the illusionist :P. which is anything but old ground, it's beautiful and charming- and communicates so much more character than I see in the trailer here

why !
and then you would probably end up with something like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235536/

you really think so? even though they're not trying to be particularly realistic?
characters don't offend me, but i have no connection to the original work. i want to see how this looks in motion.
they really missed the mark with those characters.

as for the CGI one - hated the characters at first but they've already started to grow on me. as long as it turns out better in motion than beowulf...
Also it looks like somebody came on that last pic before scanning it.
"Oh my god, it's a double moustached man with hat all the way!, almost starting to look like three of them!!!"
