Emil, sorry if there is an obvious answer to this question. When we are finished with both the mini challenge and the main challenge next year where do we submit our final entry. They talk about the "Dom War Entry System" what is that, and where do we post both of our final entries. Thanks for the help.
Firstly, sorry all for the absence and the lack of answers.
Snex: The polygon distribution is totally up to you. If you want kill the polies in the feet to put them somewhere else, that is fine. As long as your final submission is within the budget.
Blackheart: In the rules it's not really clear, but I'm going to say it's fine. In the end it's your animation that is the focus and not the model.
Zadrel: I'm going to give you the same answer as Blackheart.
As for posting your finals, I'm going to make the final submission threads today. So keep your eye out.
murph: As Snex pointed out, there are no limits for your pedestal.
onelunglewis: The Pre-Dom War V final submissions will be posted in a finals thread (which I'll get going at some point today). The entries will be judged internally by the Polycount Community.
The Main Challenge next year will be a bit more official. There is a submissions form hosted at Game-Artisans and you sign up there (there will be a link when the challenge starts, so don't worry about it for now) and you'll have your own WIP thread here at Polycount. All the info will come when the main challenge begins. I assure you.
It turns out the submission process is a little different than what I expected. You will have to submit at the Game-Artisans submission page. More info here.
illusion: Fred mentioned that there would be a 2 day extention because of the optional WIP images submission. The official site still says Dec 6th. He either hasn't updated it yet or the extension is still up in the air.
You may NOT: 3d, show additional final presentation images of your model at different angles. You are only allowed to show "ONE" final image. The extra 12 images are to be used solely for demonstrating the creation of your single main image.
Does this mean the final image can only contain one single shot of your character? Or does it mean you can show different angles, as long as they are all on the same single 1000x1000 image?
Edit: also wondering about this:
For 3d, you can show wireframes, texture sheets, lighting passes... anything that shows how you made your main final images. For 2d, you can show your initial idea sketches, color studies, wips, etc.
Does this mean for 3D, we're not supposed to show any sketches or concepts?
After new "12 additional wip screens" rule,
it still need to put wireframe and texture sheet on final main image,
or we can put this on additional images now?
Nix: Basically you can only have ONE presentation image. How you lay this out is totally up to you. You can do multiple angles, you can do a single angle. Just remember that the final presentation image should include texture sheet, wireframe, and full colored model.
As for sketches/concept... That's up to you really. If you want to work it into your presentation shot, then go for it. It's not a requirement.
Levus: Yes. The final presentation image should include texture sheet, wireframe, and full colored model.
The 12 additional WIP shots are strictly to show off your work in progress images from start to finish. These will not be used for judging and are completely optional.
EDIT: Never mind, the new deadline has been announced, the 15th
Original post:
The competition is on hold so there is some time added to the deadline, but do you have any idea how much time following a "contest resumed" announcement that we'll have to finish up?
Don't want to be taken off guard doing a bunch of wacky new things with my piece only to find out the entry is due in 1 day. Or should I work on this as if it's due at the original time?
crazyfingers: Just keep working at it, mate. The contest is still going and Polycount are still very much participating in the Pre-Dom War V Content. You have been given an additional extension given the recent circumstances.
The submission page will return on Monday 13th, December and the Deadline is now Wednesday 15th, December.
I'll be making a post about it.
Snex: There is nothing to say you can't. But the question remains. Do you really want to? :P
Considering the main comp is all about hand painted diffuse textures, it would keep the look and feel consistent. But considering the pedestal is optional anyway, I'll leave that up to you.
I was wondering, since it was mentioned that showing the model in a "game environment" is ok, does this mean we can use marmoset's environment maps? Or should we make our own?
I'm guessing it's fine, but I'd like to make absolutely sure.

Ok thank you Emil. I'm making a rock cluster for my pedestal and kinda need the depth a normal map can provide. Once I've finished I'll post it up and you can tell me which looks better, with or without.
Btw I'm glad you notified us about what was happening with the submissions. When I originally read the clause and there was no option box I was a little confused. I believe people are painting PC in a bad light due to the suspension, but I think you did the right thing.
You could just bake your AO and see how that turns out. I don't know if you really should use normal maps with your pedestal, just seems to defeat the purpose that the competition staged.
Anyone know or have info on when (if) the Dom War V main comp is going to start? I recall the start date was supposed to be January 5th. I know there are the usual delays and such to factor in. So it might be next month, if at all.
Word on the street is today is the day an annoucement will be made by Fred. How specific that date will be is anyone's guess. So if you're itchen to do some 3d art in the near future you might start thinking of doing your own deal.
Also of note is today is the last day to vote on pre game entries, so if you wanted to do that, get to it!
Its just that I have an idea for a character i've been meaning to do and if I can tie it in with DW i'll kill 2 birds with one stone. I should be able to bend the brief or my character to suit. But will see when the brief is announced.
Just a reference for the future, looks like motion blur rendering is allowed for animation. Even though it states special effects aren't allowed guys. good luck on the next event!!!

EDIT: nevermind, found the answer at the bottom of the DW page
