I'm confused as to why they can't simply announce the winners. That requires zero coding at all, and they don't keep us waiting for anything when they do code something.
The only real conclusion I can come to is that some entries were so good or divided between the judges, that they have to actually test the gameplay implications to decide a clear winner.
Or maybe they're proofreading the blog post for the umpteenth time. There's really no telling with Valve.
there are a lot of entries, and each pack has 3-6 items in it. It's a lot of items to look at and decide what can be implemented and how it should be done.
I think it'll also come with a free weekend, since they usually give free weekends during major updates, yet they didn't for the engineer update. In any case I'm really anxious to see who won!
the only reason I could possibly think of why they havent announced the winners yet is because they didnt look at any of the entries until after the Engineer update was done.
I can imagine Valve after releasing the Engie update just chilling and relaxing in their lounge, drinking coffee and eating donuts while watching TV. This relaxation happens for about 3 days until finally one of the interns is like "Isn't there that Polycount Contest you all have to judge", then everyone freaks out and dispatches the delay so they can actually judge and select winners.
But I have a good feeling about today. I think they'll announce the winners today.

Gabe Newell probably said something along the lines of, "What do you mean? What's polycount? I don't understand!!"
guys guys guys, everyone whos anyone knows that valve is working on hats, lots and lots of hats. they are much to busy to judge our entries when there is hat making business to be done.
Considering they were probably working on the engie update up until the last minute before it was released, I wouldn't be surprised.
I know for a fact that they were. Having sold content to valve for multiple updates now I'm not at all impressed by their timing. I (and two others) got my agreement for this update the morning it went live and had to fax it back the same day or coldfront wouldn't have gone live yet.
I wasn't too worried since I've read their agreements before and this was almost identical to the last one, but the other guys had never seen one before and to have to sign it and send it back on the same day is crazy.
However. I'm really not gunna kick up a fuss over Valve buying my stuff
I like how that video constantly skips scenes and is on 2Fort.
Also would Valve really release the Engineer Update immediately after the main content is finished even though they don't have a specific release date? I kinda doubt that since they obviously had some planning behind the presentation of the update. I think they should have had plenty of time to look at the entries. But then knowing how Valve works, we'll get it in 2 more weeks after a bunch of pointless patches. And by that I mean the announcement of the winners, the update is due about 3 months after that.
"In addition, a few individuals who contributed to the contest greatly, but did not enter the contest themselves."
they say that everyone, even some people that gave feedback, will get badges. How will that work?
How do they choose those few? I think they're just filtering out the people that posted once or twice, but it's still a weird way of wording.
I doubt I'll get a badge, but it would be cool. Gave lots of feedback on all of the winners' entries and every entry in the contest. But I think they'll give it to animators/kill icon makers mainly.

You definitely deserve a pin! I don't think there's one entry that you didn't help with

You deserve one bro! I, however have a large chance to not recieve one.
Pretty sure it was made to be a pistol replacement. He had 3 items plus that bonus 4th item, so no big deal if they're both in the Secondary slot. (obviously since Valve chose it as a winner they didn't mind it at all)
Congrats to the winners, I'm fairly pleased with the results and especially happy they chose more then just one. Now I'm really curious to see what Valve does with the gameplay/stats of all of these weapons... especially the Spy Knife, Scout Pistol, Sniper Rifle, Pyro's 3rd Flame Thrower, and Soldier's 3rd Rocket Launcher.
What's the new razorback going to do? What more can a razorback do?
Faster swimming speed? lol
There's alot of things a new razorback can do, like block all incoming back damage by 20% or something. It doesn't have a battery strapped to it, so I don't see it blocking backstabs anyway.
Bleeding is for sharp objects. Power Jack might just be more power, slower swing speed. Something dumb like that.
I'm a bit curious what the Holy Mackerel will do. Fish oil crits perhaps.
Croc-o-style Razorback might be damage resistance while zoomed/aiming.
it may not be sharp but battery acid burns... and can cause you to bleed... you can also bleed from being cut by a fish. and the effect is ok but I don't want to see more then two weapons with that as the plus side...
Sounds plausible. Scout rushes will be devastating in some CP maps, but I've never experienced the pain train.
I hope Valve knows what they're doing. What more can the Spy's knife do? More/less damage from the front won't matter anyway. Backstab Ubers? They're going to have to get creative with these.

Tap M1 > M2 > Q > M1 > Dead.

and I don't know what to say.
I do want Piarate for Medic, Swizzle for demo and Buck for Heavy though.
Also only complaints I've heard so far was for the soldier pack and the spy pack, but oh well. Wonder how they will be in game.

God damn it, now I need to play spy (which I hate) just so I can get a fez!

The new items look amazing, altough they atributes are limited by valve....
there were such great ideas but yeah, it'd be outbalanced :c

My interest is in the Shortstop.
