Yeah, but there's a difference between having cigarette's in the world and having the player smoke them for benefits.
Mhmm, several countries do not allow usable drugs to give benefits in video games. For example: Fallout3 was briefly banned in Australia due to morphine.
I think you guys are getting too hung up on the fact that it's cigarettes. It isn't necessarily going to be used for benefits, and maybe that wasn't even graff's intentions. These could just be a misc. item.
seriously though, nowhere in that image does it say the smokes are actually used for anything so why don't you let graff make the damn thing before you go crying to the somebody-might-get-offended-police. jeeze.
From the picture, which has tape over the top and tag line:"packs a punch" I immediatly imagined that a fist on a spring would fire out, a jack-in-the-box kind of thing. But that does seem a little far fetched. It would be hilarious though.
yall bring up good points, but Its just an idea i liked. if it dont win cuz its to Controversial wont hurt my feeling either way.ill prob come up with some alternative if I get these done and have more time
Maybe the cigarettes could have some kind of buff effect, but they give the Soldier lung cancer so he dies after thirty seconds. That would make the censors happy.
And if it doesn't, say that they are, uh, magical wondersticks or something instead of smokes. Fallout 3 got through the ratings in Australia simply by renaming Morphine.
Jarate was never ACTUALLY called piss by valve, there were suggestive terms like the jar filling when he drinks coffee in meet the sniper and that "It increased size of my bladder bla bla bla" but never was it called urine in a jar. Still throwing it to damage opponents is no where as bad as smoking to gain bonus attributes.
So what's your plan for what they'll do? It's a nice looking knife, a decent looking pack of smokes, and a nice (if somewhat overly stinger-modern looking, though with the direct hit I suppose I can't complain) rocket launcher, but I'm kind of interested to see how it works game-mechanic wise.
I don't think cigarettes is a good idea overall, people can be offended (yeah, now-days people can be offended by anything)
The spy already chain smokes, uses a pack of smokes as his costume thing, and flicks the cigarettes. It totally fits with the time period and theme, especially with the World War 2 American soldier.
Besides if folks can be offended by that in a video game where you light someone on fire, douse them out with a jar of piss, and then have a black guy kill them with a broken bottle, their priorities for what's offensive need to be adjusted.
the rocket launcher isn't all that interesting to look at to be honest. For the best definition i can give, "it's just a rocket launcher." Nothing really stands out about it.

I agree, the game is rated M (At least in most areas) and with such a rating I do believe smoking is pretty covered.
However due to the contest rules, I am personally not sure if cigarettes as a weapon will be an okay entry, unless it's a replacement for the buff banner.
Smoking is covered, but by having the player actually 'smoke' and promote a buff in such a way is kinda... Not giving off the right message.
Even though it's an M game, kids still play it.
Loving the combat knife however!
13 here (or atleast almost ) and i totally aggree with ya,cigs that promote a bonus are kinda....ehhh.....even if i dont mind people using cigs around me and i dont mind the promotion of cigs thats kinda odd.

Thanks a ton for the input,i appreciate all your comments
the rocket launcher is a bit too modern i spose. thinking of what i could do to styleize it a bit more.
I was also thinking of replacing the smokes with just a cigar?
as for the functionality of the weapons i didnt realy care either way but ill post an update today with my ideas of their uses.
What would the cigar/cigarettes be doing? If it's just going to be a misc. item with the cigar hanging out of his mouth, that's fine. However, if it's a secondary replacement that gives him a buff or something, I can see people getting upset - not to mention it would look a little silly smoking a cigar/ette the same way he plays the Buff Banner trumpet.
and no im not bitchy, just a bit iffy on the cig idea.
and to let you know ayesdef is a good modeler and knows what he's doing

all unlock ideas are great, keep em' comin!
I don't like the cigarette idea either, but nothing's stopping you from doing it, and it's Valve's decision of course. The hats I find absolutely awesome, but there's a one item per slot limit, so you'll have to choose one (I vote for the tropicano!) The rocket launcher looks really plain though. You have to add something or emphasize some feature to make it look more distinctive.
I'd say no... Females on a RL just doesn't seem like a Soldier thing :P
Somehow I just imagine Soldier would say something like "Females? Those are devils in a dress! Only soft hearted maggots would fall in love with such beings!"
Maybe some kill count in blood instead? You know... That line counting system

I know I'm late on this, but the actual model name is urinejar.mdl.
Anyway great stuff in here so far! Rocket Launcher is looking great. I'd say yes to the pinups. It needs something in that empty space there and it fits in with the WW2 Soldier theme you're going for.
I know. Why not add a box to it, near the back? You could increase the size of that metal box on it, or just add a pouch holding ammo (like they have on some shotguns). That could add visual interest without changing the current weapon too drastically.

thats a good idea, i might play around with that since i still got UV space sto spare

Sniper have an ash tray in his Van, and Soldier have a pack of cigarettes attached to his Stash.
If people get offended by the Soldier smoking, they should just go play Hello Kitty instead.
Ummm, when you fire a rocket at someone body parts go left and sometimes to the right....which one's more offensive?
Good stuff graff, cant wait to see the models.
It's nice concept art though!

much thanks - the input is always appreciated

Did everyone forget that the spy ALWAYS smokes?

hope you like my combat knife idea though!
If someone is under the recommended age of the game, they should adapt to the circumstances of ignoring that recommendation.
