So, are you going to stick with a scope on the secondary? What with not being able to use it/it makes the gun seem like a Sniper rifle rather than a secondary.
It should be a secondary. What would happen if you spawn as a Sniper, with a primary that does no/hardly any damage, and some other secondary weapon that isn't the SMG?

Yeah I ended up playing for hours using the Scout to get my Atomic Drink model for my entry :<
Once I get back to the weapon, I do plan to turn it into a full primary weapon replacement. And really it doesn't have to be completely useless, I mean darts can be filled with anything....even poison .

I can totally see this doing less damage than the regular sniper but severely slowing the target.
Late on this but you can see the item as it would be in game in the model viewer. Just load up the Sniper player model then go to File>Load Weapon. Find the razorback (If you replaced it with your model) or your own unique compiled version of your crock shield and load it in. It'll be placed exactly on the player as it would be in game.
So far the entries in this contest, including my own have left a massive gap of "could be way more awesome"

Even though it's perfect, perfect needs critique:
Scale the body down by just a little bit (nice pun no?) widthways and darken the strap just a little.
Yah, the shield strap could be darkened or even made out of similar croc skin itself. Considered that maybe the Sniper shot the crocodile in the head? That's his trademark, after all. Just a little bullet hole in the hat between the croc's eyes. :cool:
Might I suggest a side of the Croc's lower jaw as a melee replacement?
Oooh, I really like that idea! Should definitely try to do something with the other parts of the crock. Maybe it's spine with the lower part of the jaw on the end or a whip made of it's tail bones/flesh.
Anyway looking really great so far. Would be disappointing if this doesn't get in.
I totally agree with you guys on the strap, I will definitely work on making it darker. As far as the size goes, I will play around with it again but idk if I will change it much. The jawbone idea sounds pretty cool. I will make sure to keep it in mind for later if I do some extra weapons. Next up will be tweaking the dart gun and maybe making a pouch full of darts to replace his bullet pouch as a misc item.

So I spent some time messing with the dart gun model and managed to come up with a general design I like but I am not too sure about some of the details. So if you guys could let me know which of these you like best or which bits and pieces, that would be great .
I've been lurking a bit here ever since the TF2 blog mentioned the Polycount contest. If you are aiming to replace the Sniper Rifle, then a laser sight should be attached to your dart gun model also. If it doesn't produce a laser dot on walls,etc., then there may be a few gameplay balance issues.
I really like 4's big canister and how the stock had to be altered to fit it. Maybe make it obvious that Sniper sawed out a bit of the stock with saw marks, then it would have some character. Although in first person (what everyone really sees most of the time) 6 may be more interesting depending on where you go with the design.
Definitely keep the long slender scope and the feathers on the barrel of 5.
I like the darts being attached like they are on 6, but the feathers are just kind of floating on the barrel. I'd say go for #5, but with the canisters and darts where they are in #6.
I like just about everything about 2 except for the scope, which looks really long. It should be around the size of #1's scope. Also, add the feathers back.
Thanks for all the input everyone, I tried a few variations of 4 and 6 and this is what popped out. I went through and tried to exagerate the size and shape of things a bit to help push it away from looking like a real gun and closer to a tf2 weapon. Now I just need to test it in the engine and see how it looks.
Thanks, I will make sure to scale down the feathers. And I should clarify, this is still just solid colors in max, I will be testing it in the engine to see how it looks as far as clipping issues and thing like that.
All I have to say is that's the worst place ever for the extra darts to be placed because that's where you rest your chin when aiming/firing so you'd just about be tranquilizing yourself when using this weapon. #6 was my favorite design because they were a bit more off to the side and not right where your chin would rest. Other than that, looks good.
Loving it. It's different but not so different as to seem out of place, it's got lots of style, it fits both the theme and the character really well. I can totally see using this in-game.

Not to be mean, but Like REKLAS said I can imagine huge difficulties when trying to aim through the scope. Its not a gameplay problem, but just realism. Anyway I love the croc skin, the hat and the rifle!:)

Thing is, should be focusing on modeling. This really fits more with the primary model and looks more like a primary weapon.

Perhaps add some tape wrapped around the middle of the scope and the bottom part of the rifle, like it's keeping it together.
