I spy a lot of wasted polygons on the parts of the fish that are completely blocked from view.
yeap ur right, but I wasnt sure if I was going to have the fish flop out or not. I'll probably end up deleting those extra polys in the final. I was going to supply 1 texture to valve with AO and another without AO on the fish. That's why it's completely unwrapped. And of course 1 model with just the fish. Even if I re-uved it wouldn't make that much of a difference because of the TF2 style of large brush strokes. It would look very similar and it has as much res as most of the larger weapons.
i think you should/could move the fish a bit more down, so the player has more grip to it. it looks like it flobbles out at every possible minute.

I don't know if you've figured out your jigglebone problem, but you're right in thinking you have to link. Just link the jigglebone to the parent you want (I'm gonna guess weapon_bone in this case). Rig, export, and ta-da - jigglebone.
I'll be revisting all of my models this week to finish up. Which one you like better, the barrels or the flat version? I still have to take the ao out of the flat

I haven't stopped by this thread in a while, so I'd just like to say that this stuff is absolutely fantastic and I hope it gets in game so I can hit people with a very large trout.
I like the barrels in 2.
Also, is this a warmer silver on the gun than before? Because I love it. I combines the sepia and the silver of the original pistol.
Alright I got the jiggle bone working tonight! Thanks OpethRockr55 and nrek for your help! I still have to do some tweaking in the qc and the model but at least the setup is there. Anyone know how I can lob the head off?
Graff pirate gave me some really good suggestions on how to further stylize the fish. I'll be doing this.
But first, gotta get the milk setup since the tech side seems to be the most time consuming for me.
Wow that's great. I wish you had enough time to do a custom sound of wet fish hitting people. And maybe a particle effect of seawater when it hits. Valve doesn't do custom sounds so far.

I would go with a thinner version if it wasnt the tf2 style. I'm actually going to be thickenning up the newspaper for the fish alot. look at the collar on the soldier's uniform...very thick.

I wanted to go through the entire process so that I have the knowledge of working with sourcesdk. i was gonna grab some source material from the force of nature animations and applying that to the gun. I will hit you up if I fail, lol. Thanks man for the offer.
I think that maybe you should try the cap without the logo, but the logo would go nicely on the Milk bottle :P

I'd definitely go with the logo. Adds some much needed interest and really sells it as a milkman's hat. Otherwise it could just as easily be a ferry captain's cap.

Wow this pistol sure is one heel of a weapon. I just cannot imagine head shot delivered from this weapon Also the fish would be most fun to punish some scoped snipers :> (they should stink after respawn for a while )
I just took out the logo completely and re-uved the model to get more texture res. I'll post it up soon. I think it looks better without any logo personally. My next order of business is tweaking the fish model/texture, and then jiggle bone and its attributes.

I was playing in training mode... and as I was interested in exploring the area around me a bit so I put on mat_picmip -10. Next to me I found this:

it makes it look, not plain.
I think it could do fine without it though, hats aren't meant to be too attention grabbing. They're meant to just sort of go.
Not to mention how the texture probably won't be that recognizable in game.
I would like to see the milk company I suggested for the milk bottle though
