reminds me of this old assignment, where we texture a munny or dunny model to look like our fav video game char, with only minor modification allowed to the model http://www.gamestepper.com/gallery/index.html
ahhh I forgot about the Game Artisans kart comp and I was in it! *palmface*
I like the time machine idea. Then again I just like time machines. Check out the movie primer.
I'd like to maybe see something more environment related like an all organic nature scene. You could do a lot with that like an overgrown gnarly jungle scene with plants that eat people. You wouldn't even have to create any characters you could use the scene to tell the story.
It would bee cool to see some entries that have really strong composition without such an emphasis on any one object such as a character.
These comps are really cool because you get to see everyones interpretation of things and I'm simply trying to come up with ideas of stuff I'd like to see you guys make!
heyyyy. glad everyones diggen the idea. it would be hella fun.
nice dark helmet model slaught! that dude is hilarious.
hey illadam. you could always do a collab. maybe they work on the time machine slash character and you model the pace we he travels too. could be two different comps. one for group work and one for singularz.
would be spiffy to get one goin soon.
hope the admins stop by and like some of the suggestions we have provided. cuz they are just that and only that suggestions =/
dont think anyone in this thread actually has any say on what goes down.
Iconic vehicles. Batmobiles, DeLoreans, Thomas the Tank Engine (lulz)
I kinda like that one. But turn it on it's side and make them old-school McDonald's toys with characters? I guess it would be like the cart contest, with a mix of character and vehicle.
I really like the cart idea but the childhood heroes at 1.5k tris seems pointless since that would be too many tris for a handheld game and not enough for any console or pc game.
can we please get this rolling?
Most of us (im guessing) dont really have time to go for a full fledged 10k normal mapped model and just want something simple :P
We don't have any idea of what it gonna be, so it could be fun to design / produce the one we would like to see in the game. And the Artistic direction of the game is compatible for the flat / low poly contest.
The constraint could be "don't make an existing class or a class that override an existing one (no barbarian, no wizard , but a melee character with an other background and few spells or range attack could be ok).
2000 / 3000 triangles , Diffuse , Spec? No normal map
Anyway i was thinking about doing something like that for myself so i just share the idea :]
On account of that requiring the people entering to actually know all the classes of that specific game (I know, my casual-gamer status is showing) I would say that's a little... specific? Not the right word, but I would be out simply because I don't play/know Diablo. I really liked the last LPC because it wasn't constrained to a specific art direction, let alone a specific game.
What about fantasy (not sci-fi) creatures? Griffins, elves, fauns, that sort of thing. Constraint could be that the creature has to be an 'existing' creature, ie: you could do your own twist on a hobgoblin but you couldn't do a cat with wings (unless that's a fantasy creature I've just never heard of).
Brand new here, really enjoyed looking through the results of the time machine challenge!
Will there be another one soon? Definitely something I want to get involved with.
For the next challenge, how about 'Aliens on holiday?' - Can't shake the image of a Grey under a parasol, or a slug family resenting a salty beach holiday.
posted these over at GA a while back (not sure what has become of that once lively community - seems to have hit the wall in a big way!). Anyhoo, here's my idea list:)
Some ideas:
1. Gang Boss
Create the baddest meanest gang leader from a fictitious world / city
2. Starsigns
Model your starsign (ie a centaur with bow and arrow if you are a saggitarius like me) - best for a lowpoly i think
3. David Attenborough Special
Create a beast/insect/bird whatever David Attenborough has never seen before
4. Into the Void
Create a space-faring vehicle (probably good for a low poly one) - can be a trading vessel, transport behemoth or simple interplanetary ferry
5.Worldly Challenge
Create your own planet. Yes - be a god of verts. Anyone played Spore? Those mini planets with like a big volcano on it. We can them composite them together and make a Polycount poster / desktop background!
6. Early Einstein
We all know cavemen invented the ziplock bag - but what else have they made using fire, a pointed stick and some rocks?
7. It came from the sea
Take evolution into your own hands, create a halfway point between an existing animal (giraffe) and its primordial counterpart (a gooey collection of cells)
8. Appliances Alive
Ever get that feeling your dishwasher is plotting your demise? Create an evil household appliance bent on death and destruction
9. The village idiot
Every town has one
10. Blue-rinse Rising
they have had enough of the loud music, the baggy pants and the cussing. Imagine an octogenarian uprising - granny never looked so badass
4. Into the Void
Create a space-faring vehicle (probably good for a low poly one) - can be a trading vessel, transport behemoth or simple interplanetary ferry
Now this more like it. A while back we did an F-Zero racer challenge. About time for another non character challenge.
and if we do the worldly challenge, we can put together a polycount planetary system... yeah!
i like collaborational aspects in general - it is more motivating.

I also like this idea
Sounds cool!

Plus at least 1 driver, and a prop, or enemy vehicle.

Models less than 1500 polys, one colormap, one specmap and bumpmap

eh?
should we all get started then yah?
yes.. lets start!
I just migrated here from GameArtisans because things are feeling sloooow over there.
Im ready for some lowpoly work, lets do it!

1800 tris, 512 maps?

Just an idea.
anybody can make it?
or
80's 90's cartoon character / game character
as diablo 5th class

Im loving the planet ones but the evolution is so broad it would be a shame to not do it
Recreating futuristic cybernetic gods and godesses with weapons, gadgets/pets and powerarmor, only it wouldn´t be limited to norse mythology.
1000-1500 tris, one 512² map for character and weapon/pet.

done before, there wasn't enough entries for a vote.
Those seem plenty cool, especially Into the Void. Anything that's not a character has me interested.
lets go yakuza :poly136:
