It's been a while since the last mini-comp and I'm currently webless after moving (Yay (and Boo) Library net access).
An idea popped into my head after a session of Super Mario Galaxy (wahoo!) last night.
When selecting a level, be it either a static image on a menu system or a minimap/hub level you will get a visual of the level boiled down to either it's overall shape, general feeling or a key element of it level.
It would be cool to knock up a small model for an existing level/area of a game. The idea that immediately sprung to mind was of the submarine level of Uncharted 1.

Or
A scene bout valentines day??? I tried...
Maybe something like this, or re-shaping older cartoons or stories into a more realistic model. But then again, low-poly may not be the best for this. But still!
Charizards, yo.
So how about television good guys? (Or something related to a classic TV moment, like a scene or main/iconic prop?)

My suggestion: The 30 min toilet challenge.
Model, UV, texture, and take screenshots of a toilet........... in 30 mins. When the time is up. You stop.
I did a 10 min toilet challenge once for myself, and it looked like shit so 20 more mins might get some better results but still keep it respectable. The 5 min bong challenge was worse.
I hate the Olympics and I haven't seen Avatar, but I really like the famous painting idea from achillesian! So cool!
I call Goya.
**(I admit however that I would have called Amano had there not already been countless 3D models based on his art, and copying a Final Fantasy character straight out of a game is cheap, at least for competition Just a fanboy spilling his heart out.)**
How about anything Warhammer???? :P pretty plissss
To make things more challenging, drop the poly count even further. Make say, a car, or boxer, or shark with 250 polygons, as opposed to the 700 in other challenges.
I like the TV idea, so many good series around these days. House, Lost, The Wire, Dexter, Dead Set, The Office (:P)...not just good guys though...
This would be awsome!
Although star trek does suck.
Allows for interesting creativity and lego lends itself nicely to keeping it low poly.
I call gordon freeman!
(space crafts, robots, lasers, aliens, etc...)
An example could be the mad hatter and the caterpillar riding a mushroom cart. It would be fun to see what characters people choose and to see how they design the karts.
I like the idea of low poly kart, something along the lines of wacky racers. Perhaps with other cartoon characters too.
Same style as Mario Kart.
Go ahead with the idea, but don't come crying to me when Adam ridicules you for trying to be like a GameArtisan.
How about... Cereal box/candy/chip/other mascots as characters in an FPS/other genre.
