So close... And yet so far away. Makes me wish I didn't have a day job, so I could jump on these beta keys.
I don't suppose the beta download has the same pause features as the Windows 7 beta? Not sure how I'd manage a download of that size without that, really.
I'm really not digging a $60 price tag for the standard issue of the game. Considering most PC games are $40-50 especially with D2D games $60 is a hefty price especially for a game with only 1 of the 3 races campaigns.
I just don't like the way it's moving. First CoD now SC. Testing the waters on big names before they make the switch to all. All this does is leave me with less money to buy different games. Before I might be able to get 4 games for $180 on the PC, now it sounds like I'll be able to get 3... that's one more company that's not getting financial help and that saddens me.
Whoa winterlord, thanks man, I'm gonna grab up that 2nd one. I went to gamestop last night but missed closing by 5 minutes, then they told me today that they weren't giving anymore beta's.
EDIT: oops nevermind. Guess it's already been claimed. Thanks anyway Winterlord. Guess I still gotta try to find a key. Gamestop said they might turn them back on in a few days.
Play three 2v2 games and lose all of them because of bad teammates. Nothing.
Play one 1v1 game and win easily. Get reclassified to bronze league. Um...
A lot of people on the ladders only have their placement matches done. So, they have a ratio and points from 5 matches. If you do more matches and lose you get bumped way behind all the people with 3-2 if you end up with 3-3. Gotta wait until everyone gets more matches done.
It's gotten bad enough for me, that I immediatly quit any "favored" match against me.
you're never going to get better if you do that! I always get happy when I see that my opponent is favored because it means I will have a chance to improve, after all its never fun to play against people you're just going to wreck game after game. Also, the more you play, the better you will get, because you will get a feel for what works and what doesn't in each matchup and on each map.
After a 20 loss streak I don't think I've improved at all. Although I've been playing zerg exclusivly and decided to ditch them (I couldn't find a stragy that worked, other than mass mass and more mass, even then I fail at that, although I got so depressed I massed about 300 zerglings, that failed too since my ally went ground to ground units only).
Started playing random, and getting protoss alot and doing better, but my allies are still a few brain cell sorts. Toss is much more fun than zerg so far. (maybe because I can acutally dent my enimies forces, instead of watching them all get obliterated instantly)
As far as favored matches go... I would not let any numbered statistics determine how a game of SC plays out. I don't know how I rank, maybe Gold or Silver, but I played against my friend who is Platinum and I beat him. We are 1-1 in our best of 3.
Lately I've been on winning streaks instead of losing streaks, so that's always nice.
I think the issues is 2v2 random match, you don't know who your getting as an ally (this is why I prefered 3v3 or 4v4 in SC1 or WCIII, you can compensate). Sometimes the other team gets the odd ball, but mostly I think the match making hates me and sticks me with some of the worst players. One terrain player actually lifted his center, and built in my area, locking me inside! Others try to go straight to tier 3 and have no defenses. (I just face desk all the time)
Although I'm slowly having fun again playing random race, it gives me a semi advantage since they don't know what race I am.
Also I'm guessing the in-game mic system dosen't work yet?
And how the fudge do you counter mass thor's and Ultra's w/ anti air units O.o (my team was protoss/zerg?)
Wide guess. 10 Maradours while terrans and 4 Collosolsthingies (the ones 3 legged characters that look like striders from Halflife2) while Protoss. ^^
I think you can also do this with the mother ship which casts a black hole in the ground and sucks every opponent in for time being..oh wait..right..right ati air units.
For zerg you're best off with a large number of smaller units to counter the Thors. Thors are heavy hitters, but don't have the splash damage that siege tanks enjoy. Surrounding them with mass zerglings is your best bet. If you can get enough roaches together, they are also a good option. Mass hydralisks are considerably more expensive, but should also work. (zerglings are the fastest and cheapest option here) Most clever Terran players will be sure to have hellions escorting their Thors. (since hellions are strong against masses of light units)
Do NOT attempt to counter Thors with Mutalisks. Thors anti-air can tear through Mutalisks in short order. Brood Lords are the only Zerg air unit that you can effectively use against Thors. If the Thors have no viking escort, Brood Lords would be highly effective.
thors have AA splash, the only unit with that, but their ground attack over kills units, and doesn't have splash, so avoid using air against them (besides void rays)

Well I know that if you're still learning and you end up with an ally that doesn't know what he's doing either, you don't have much chance of staying in the game very long. You should try playing 1v1 more, that's how I improved the most. Talk to your opponent too, ask them what they thought you did wrong if you're not sure about it.

Oh, and also watch your own replays to see what you did right/wrong! This helps a ton to see where you need to improve and where the enemy got ahead of you!
Definitely do 1v1 if you don't have a specific person as your partner. It's a lot easier not having to worry about team tactics or another person's play.
I have made some progress after playing a while. Here is me as Terran 1 v 1 if anyone wants to see how i play.

point defence drone is awesome. Im starting top right as TWL.
I need to get better and I know where im lacking... just need to practice.
Damn il post the bugs here aswell when I have time. :P
Oh and I want to see some replays from you guys aswell :P
I absolutely adore the replay feature, and how easy it is to save replays. I always save the replays for the games where I win really well, or lose really badly. When my opponents use a strategy that just completely screws me over, I want to see exactly how they did it. Replays are a fantastic learning tool in Starcraft II.

Yeah that was my other idea, but I didn't want to pay the full amount up front (beginning of the month is a poor time for me.)

With zerg you have to out macro your opponent, fast expand, counter your opponent, run them over with your resources advantage.
This strategy guide should help you in terms of understanding pretty much everything.
Good luck

Mostly pro level games so you can watch and learn. See what the pros are doing, how they are playing and get ideas for what you should be doing.

I came here to post exactly that without the last part.
I installed, I failed, I quit.
I can't even beat the Very Easy AI. Or, really, the problem is that I don't know the fuck I am supposed to do.
still want to give me babies? just keep at it, dont give up, the game is not even out yet! :P
Reminds me of the Aero-fighters soo much.....O.O
To those of you who suck at this game. There is a good search engine known as Google that you should go to and type "Star Craft 2 Strategy Guide."
Remember, no one is master in any game that they first play, you just got to adapt its procedure.
Heh, yeah, my brain goes like this:
Fuck I suck at this. I quit.
/quits game
/some timel ater
Heeey, I wonder what happens if I do this.
/loads up game, does this
Fuck I suck at this. I quit.
/rinse repeat until you win a game.
Oh don't worry, when I'm done feeling sorry for myself I am gonna watch matches and read some tips or even ask mates around.
I think there is a sense of pride by not looking at strategy guides/videos, feels like cheating and need to learn on your own lol.
which is fine, if you're proud of losing all the time
I knew someone in art school who refused to do master studies or learn from other people's techniques for the same reason. Guess how many jobs he got.
If you want you can add me in your list and we can play for good practice sake. <.<
Scourge race with the lich king would be awsome.
