Congrats and what not although I am somewhat offended my pipe didn't even get put on the submission page... HAVE YOU SEEN THE FINAL PAGES?! ms paint drawings and shit? *turns all black reporter*
I'mma need someone's help compiling, getting the QC all sexy and what not then re submitting it, this injustice will not stand. :P
I might like this system if I didn't get ERROR: 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' (assert 1) every time I compile. The SMD files I feed into it work fine but something it's doing to them must be breaking. I've never even seen this error before today.
Also some advanced options for QC and VMT files would be nice so I can apply materials tweaks and apply thinks like muzzle attachments before it compiles and organises the files would be nice, it feels like a step backwards to not have these at the moment.

I was actually thinking about a donut for the Heavy...
since you got there first, I suggest the name I had planned for mine...
now brace yourself... this name contains dangerous amounts of pun...
Hm... does anyone know if it's required that we use the new itemtest compiler before submitting, now? Because it sure doesn't like orienting my hat correctly, and honestly I've got the old system down enough that I'd rather just make my own .zip file to submit.
Also, grats to those who got in. Ever since the leak about the update, I was certain that the hot dog hat was the one I'd submitted quite a while ago. "Who else would've thought to make a hot dog hat for the scout?" I thought. Doh! Jokes' on me. Oh well, win some, lose some

There's no way it could be required. It only supports hats at the moment (all items are compiled to player/items) and removes a lot of the features things like weapons and some hats would need. It's more for new modders, in my opinion.
I just dropped my two submission zips into one and sent that off in TF2.
Holy crap... this is what I get for staying in the office until late.... I just arrived and noticed the new stuff... congrats to everyone that got their items in!

The structure of the zip generated by itemtest is the same as the game folders, so I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with people manually compiling and combining the zip contents. Also, the .obj files are not included in the zip itemtest makes... I guess they don't want them anymore?
Anyone here know a good tutorial on how to get a weapon in the game? I'm trying to create a new weapon to replace the engineer pistol, but after scouring the internet, I can't find any.

Really? Well fuck. Might have to recompile all of my items then with this new broken compiler...
Are they expecting purely models-only now? It looks like the itemtest compiler cannot do animation/bone skinning, so you can't really test any weapons with its output. Am I wrong?
I do see that the output includes .dmx files with the MDLs, so does that serve as the source file - instead of .obj?
Well yeah... They aren't going to manually put up the thousands of submissions they've received over the past year and a half.
Well aren't you the smart one.
Seriously, they said they had been working hard on it for quite awhile.
I thought maybe they HAD been using it in house in some fashion, in which case they would have had submissions in the database... and who's to say it's thousands, we don't know how many submission there have been.
I feel that if you have no reason to post other than being a smartass maybe you should leave it at facepunch
So to clarify, the current itemtest compiler in the SDK is broken? I just tried a hat and had the same issue as other people, with it placed in the wrong spot. I'd have thought they'd treat origin/pivot point as bip_head when skinning, since that's the placement of the heads in the zip file, but nope...
So what's the current method for compiling and sending? Cannonfodders Studiocompiler keeps bugging up for me when compiling, so I dunno how reliable that is for making stuff up to grade for valve. After I get it compiled, do I just put the files in a zip folder and upload via their new system?
Well I've been messing with it and I found that it also doesn't seem to support multiple textures. At least, as far as I can see. Maybe that's because they don't want people using multiple textures, regardless I bypassed it by looking at the ZIP structure it generates and uploading a custom ZIP of my own using that same stucture. The only problem is it generates a folder called materialsrc which contain .TGA textures. This makes the file too big even though the limit is 4MB.
I assume you're using GUIstudiomdl? That works fine for me.

I mean that we have to submit vis the new system to get our items listed on th e voting pages.
none of my submissions from the past are up.

Don't really know what to do with the beard though.
It usually takes them within a week to a month to get to handing out the Self-Mades.
The ID badge didn't make the cut for this update, it's in the gcf files for implementation for another update though, if at all.

Those (stereo)typical viking trousers are going to be a pain in the ass to skin...
edit: i removed the grenades while making the beard, but the ensemble looks better without the grenades.
Edit: @re.wind: With those pants the set reminds me of the comic Asterix.

Back to work! Smoke grenade for the scout. It's slightly smaller than the Mad Milk. May need decals. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Sorry if all this is old news, I'm just confused.

I'm using version .4a, I'll try GUIstudiomdl and see if that works better. Thanks.
