I pronounced it "Way-Com" while giving a public demo for Wacom at a tradeshow here in Vegas. They rapidly came up and corrected me, claiming the correct pronunciation is "waa-cum" not "waaay-com".
Yeah, I can't go against how the Japanese say to pronounce it... so I'm sticking with how I already said it, and now adding that extra syllable at the end, making it...
"wah-com-uh"!
And I don't care what any American says, here in Canada land, I've only ever heard it called "zed-brush"!
Oh, and "sin-teek", cause "sin-tick" sounds gross to say. Such a fine piece of technology should have a more suave name, and does that well by rhyming it with "sleek". IMO.
In nearly 10 years of digital art I don't think I've ever heard anyone use any pronounciation besides way-com. Maya, ZBrush, Softimage vary from person to person, but every one in this here country says Way-com and by my thinking that makes it Right (with a capital 'R').

Yes, you are correct in that ɑː is quite different from
in Norway, its vaa-komm everywhere.

I'm not going to say something that makes me cringe everytime. Like softimage will always be soft image to me because that's how I roll
Disagreement on this matter is an act of war.
ps stop trying to make us sound silly :P no-one says 'whack em' and that is a fayct
Close to this, for me. Wua -kOm. But then again, I'm Greek, so pronounciating (or making up) words in English isn't my biggest strength.
The "a" like in fat and not "ei" like in "way".
