Sankofa - BA FMP treatment update from the top of this thread, really looking forward to this game. Character work by >Stevie Cole< graduates in May 2016.
BA level 6 student, Phoebe Warries graduates at the end of May 2016
I am a big fan of her work and I am looking forward to this animation which she is working so hard to complete for the UH Digital Exposé on the 25th May.
Nice work showcased here are there any open days coming up? Also, is it possible to do a custom pathway, e.g. training for one year full time in something like traditional figure sculpture and drawing, or game art with a focus on characters?
Hi Touch, we can offer you an MA on a range of courses such as MA Games Art, Model, Fine Art, Animation and many more courses at Post Graduate level, I hope that helps. Also you can do it part time over two years.
In more news BA Games Art student Sam Bang won overall the Search for a Star Character category and also won the title of the overall Search for a Star 2016 winner for art. And BA level 6 student Amelie Talarmain won Search for a Star Animation at the University of Hertfordshire won best animator.
They are available for work from the end of May 2016

Lunette is a short film by BA final year student Phoebe Warries. The short is about a lone wolf’s very special relationship with the moon—and the important impact it has across the natural world. It’s a quiet work the filmmaker describes as “fantasy-based,” with animal animation that’s lovely and simple without being too cute.
You inhabit a large hourglass, each end of which contains a town. Whilst in either town you should locate and solve puzzles in order to collect crystals. Be sure to make haste, as the town will be rapidly filling with sand, quickly making areas unavailable. Once all the sand has fallen the hourglass will turn, giving you the same amount of time to solve puzzles in the opposite town. All crystals must be returned to the large central crystals in the same town in which you collected them.
I'm currently studying at plymouth college of art on a games design degree and am in my second year. In short -the course is appalling and a waste of time. So i have recently been looking into other courses in the uk that i could transfer to for my last year (or to retake the 2nd year aswell).
This course sounds exaclty what i've been looking for and what i was hoping my currenty course would be like.
I have a few questions and i'd be very grateful if you could answer them
- Would students from other degrees be able to transfer to the course into the 2nd or 3rd years?
- What would the talent / portfolio need to be at, to be accepted for a transfer?
- Would you say that the course is suitable for a 2D looking to get into the games / film industry or is there more of a focus on 3D?
- Also in the original post there are links to 2D / 3D parts of the courses, implying that the course splits up into the different disciplines at some stage, however those links no longer work. Would it be possible to explain a bit more about the course structure (sorry if this has already been explained)
Thank you very much
Hi could you please send me the answers to this as well? I don't need to know about transfer credits though. I have a bachelor degree already.
Question - Would students from other degrees be able to transfer to the course into the 2nd or 3rd years?
Answer - If you email Martin Bowman (course Deputy Manager) <m.p.bowman@herts.ac.uk> with your transfer questions and portfolio link he can advise you on your best course of action.
Question - What would the talent / portfolio need to be at, to be accepted for a transfer?
Answer - Again best to talk to Martin Bowman, its really hard to transfer into level 2 or 3 as the way we have set up the course at level 1 is like a foundation course where you get to try 2D and 3D Animation, VFX and Games Art, and its mixed with lots of pro talks and drop in art classes before you focus on what you enjoy most. So your portfolio would need to cover a lot of ground.
Question - Would you say that the course is suitable for a 2D looking to get into the games / film industry or is there more of a focus on 3D?
Answer - I have started teaching 2D students how to make games as many of the 2D students end up working in the games industry but if your 100% focused on getting into games then the BA/MA games Art course would be the best fit.
Question - Also in the original post there are links to 2D / 3D parts of the courses, implying that the course splits up into the different disciplines at some stage, however those links no longer work. Would it be possible to explain a bit more about the course structure (sorry if this has already been explained)
Answer - Most of the course teaching has there main industry focuses but it has some electives which the students can chose so they can try rigging, scripting, rendering and so on. The way we have set up the course is to allow all the students to mingle like an "Eton Mess". For example your working on a game and you need an animator so you pull in a freelance from the 3D Animation course, or your working on a VFX short but you need a monster so you pull in a Zbrush games artist and so on, while the students could try and make a project 100% on their own we find it best to allow the students focus on what they enjoy doing the most and pull in freelance students to get the most out of them, they even pull in the music students. All our students can focus on their final major project or freelance across two or three.
I hope that helps, fell free to come to an open day so we can explain it more detail.
