Literally. There is a book called The Beautiful Boy with him on the cover. It's really creepy IMHO-but the gay community loved it and he has been used as an example for the feminine male archetype since. Did not age so gracefully though. Not my fav-but worth a mention.
Man, bombing this thread with joke images is kindof the most insecure shit ever, guys.
You're artists, if you can't find a male figure/face beautiful without fearing you might have caught the homogay you should get into a different industry.
Meanwhile, I keep seeing these washboard abs pretty boy types in this thread and i can never help but seeing that shit as fake. You don't get that from high performance athletics, you get that from a full length mirror and a gym.
Artists should take notice of fighters, it's a subtly (and pivotally) different bodytype that you get from real resistance based athletic activity.

As apposed to all the waif thin women who get their figure from....? Oh, the same thing, lots of gym time, careful diet, and cardio.
Not every guy wants to be able to punch stuff hard and lift giant amounts of weight, we've kind of moved beyond that culturally. Women (and men) who like men, are just as much allowed to want vapid and shallow figures in the men they objectify, as the men (and women) who like picture perfect female models.
I'd much rather have a body that turns on other people from looking at it, than having to invent some imaginary task to impress them (knock another guy out, throw a giant tree, etc).
That said, the men you posted are hot. Just not as hot as some of the earlier ones. :-)
I mean, do you insist that women wear clothing that is fully functional and the correct warmth for the environment they live in, or do you like it when they show a bit of cleavage, a bit of leg, and have fashionable clothing that shows off their figure?

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that, but it's good that you know the difference. The reason i brought it up is that we're an art community, and we tend to draw fictional characters, and it's good to differentiate between a productive body (fight, travel efficiently, climb cliffs, haul trees, etc) and a purely cosmetically crafted body.
From a character design perspective, there is a time and a place for each body type, and it describes the person it belongs to, and artists should clearly understand the difference so we stop having manly men who look like vain girly wimps (and avoid the opposite, characters who are meant to just look like they work out a lot with bodies clearly developed for carrying heavy shit and throwing that heavy shit onto its heads)
As for the women, I find legitimately athletic, lean women and vainly gym-toned waif thin women both very attractive, in different ways, and in the end it's a matter of personal taste. I'm sure it's the same way for you and men, it shouldnt be hard for either of us to understand the value of either type.

Actually I practice yoga in order to have a strong body, it helps your body be able to better function like it should, keeps your back straight and helps your posture, and allows you to have good balance, people who exercise and lift weights just to look good don't have these benefits, often they have the opposite.
I could give a shit less what I look like, I exercise to feel good.
Also damn i missed your second post Ben. Of course i appreciate impractical but cosmetic clothing. On both men and women. This is more a matter of me having a differing opinion of what is a desirable, remarkable, or respectable body than any kind of gender based dichotomy. I admire people at peak performance, male or female, more than i do average individuals who diet for cosmetic reasons. I also totally respect individuals' rights to prioritize vapid, vain approaches to cosmetics -- and certainly appreciate it out of women.
Firecracker, we are pursuing the same angle here. A lot of top mma fighters do yoga -- all stretch ridiculously much for a human being. Flexibility is a big part of a person being physically dangerous.
Just wanted you guys to remember that guys aren't the only ones who exercise for skill and not for looks
And its bad for you to exercise just for the sake of looking good, like all those guys who beef up their pectorals only to have a hunch back later on because they didn't balance out the rest of their back. Hunch backs are not hot...
Man, bombing this thread with joke images is kindof the most insecure shit ever, guys.
Who says they're joke images?
I just don't find a mans body/face attractive like you do. I'm more about their personalities, lol.
I guess I like funny dudes...so far I've posted Steven Colbert, Jay and Silent Bob...oh and Bruce Willis...he's just damn sexy! (only in Die Hard)
...what's funny is that I have more posts here than in the Beautiful Women thread...there I just have Mrs. Doubtfire (joke image...? I don't konw...) and Angelina Jolie.
I just realised that there are more IRL women here than there.
A bit off topic, but I have always wondered, what is being attracted to something? Why do we find some people attractive, and some not?
Maybe when we launch the first successful AI we'll be able to learn what is love.
I'm a bit high on knowledge know, I just came back from a colloquium concerning Enceladus at our uni and I'm feeling inspired to solve the deepest mysteries of the universe!
A bit off topic, but I have always wondered, what is being attracted to something? Why do we find some people attractive, and some not?
A lot of it has to do with the imagery we are bombarded to. There is a ton of racism in advertisement, movie casting, and other places we are presented with "beautiful" (and mostly white) women. Lo and behold, when doing studies of what people find attractive, it shifts towards white women, no matter the preference person's race.
Also, this is the "beautiful men" thread. Not, admirable men, not funny men, not good personality men. There are very few (none?) unattractive but interesting women in the women thread. This is an eye candy thread, so 80 year old men, fat comedians, and the rest don't really belong.

Also, LOL! Are you seriously trying to say that the 3d videogame art community draws functional bodies rather than cosmetic bodies? What universe do you live in? This is the industry of narrow waist, giant tits hanging out, while wearing giant shoulder armor and having an exposed midriff and neck. There is nothing functional about 95%+ female figure designs in the game industry. They are drawn as porn stars wearing sexy clothing, regardless of what their function is supposed to be.

No, just the opposite. I'm saying that the 3d videogame industry draws inappropriate bodies and demonstrates by and large faulty understandings of anatomy and character design. Men and women alike are most often completely nonfunctional and do not read as the roles they're intended for, because most people seem to not know the difference.
And its bad for you to exercise just for the sake of looking good, like all those guys who beef up their pectorals only to have a hunch back later on because they didn't balance out the rest of their back. Hunch backs are not hot...
You mean it's bad to exercise *poorly* to look good. It's completely possible to exercise in order to look good, while still hitting the entire body and working on your posture (which also makes you look good). Nothing makes clothes fit better on a body than having low body fat and even, defined, muscle distribution (for a guy, and arguably for women too).
Realistically, how many of the hot bodies in this thread do you think have health issues from exercising to look the way they do?
Ben's right. Functional strength is healthier than cosmetic strength, but in the modern world that difference in health is only really significant in extreme environments (triathalons, fights, running from wolves, shit like that.) As far as just having good posture and not wanting your body to fall apart, free weights can hit cosmetic and health goals at the same time quite easily.

Yes, I agree. Now how appealing would those same designs be, if the women were drawn in such a way that their frame and muscle mass would be functional? They'd be mannish and ugly for mainstream standards. That's why it's a double standard to say that men have to look like cave men or Arnold in order to be physically attractive. Some are (attractive), but many people also find thin, lithe, defined guys with low body fat more attractive. And they are no more fake than the 'roids popping muscle bound guys.

Did i post arnold, or bodybuilders? That's another purely cosmetic bodytype, compare them to olympic lifters or strongmen or fighters. I posted examples of what a real, fairly lightweight man looks like at peak athletic capability, not roided out monsters.
Anyway, as for women, yes. I think anatomically correctly athletic women would be very appealing. See here: http://boards.polycount.net/showpost.php?p=1064694&postcount=284
Athletic, strong women don't look manly or ugly unless they're dosing testosterone or have really unlucky genetics.
I've never said there's anything wrong with your taste in men, but to act like my stance is from ignorance or some silly gender dichotomy is completely wrong.
There is nothing functional about 95%+ female figure designs in the game industry. They are drawn as porn stars wearing sexy clothing, regardless of what their function is supposed to be.
^^This is why I need a job. But I can't even deny I like it the way it is :P
Realistically, how many of the hot bodies in this thread do you think have health issues from exercising to look the way they do?
I'm sure a lot of them do, body builders especially, muscles are not suppose to get that big, besides the fact that most of them starve themselves because body fat hides muscle definition. Ive been hit on by quite a few beefed out guys who can't even touch their hands behind their back because their arms are so big, anything that disables you from normal functional movement is a health concern.

No, I don't mean it like "omg she's/he's hot!" way, I mean the intrinsic attractive force you feel towards people of varying complexity. I don't have a fixed taste, I can't name my preference, if I like someone I just do and usually those people are far from perfect popularized bodytypes.
I am asking what is this that makes certain things appealing to us, either male or female, and how does it work. I think this is just a subset of the ever eternal question "what is art?" to be honest, because very much like people, there's something pleasing in art pieces. For example, I really like some of Ayvazovski paintings like this one for example:
For me there's just something pleasing in it, and no it's not because the water is wonderfully done there is something more to it.
There's more to our emotions than just what the ads show, something that's been around for eons - some quirk of the brain that just makes us like people.
I find it hard to pinpoint what I mean, but I hope you guys at least get an idea.
