Haven't gone through the bother of getting the Japanese demo, but I played it at PAX. Even with the 360 controller, which I'm not overly fond of, it felt really good. Everything just oozes style and soul even when it's silly and cheesy. Couldn't stop smiling the whole time. It's a game designed exactly for the people who thought DMC4 was boring and uninspired.
Can't speak too in-depth about the combat because I skipped the tutorial so I didn't really know the combos and there were only two weapons to use but it seemed pretty awesome in general. Fast, responsive, and rewarding (the "witch time" you get after a well-timed dodge is great). I did notice the camera can't always keep up, though, which forces some more cautious play at times.
I hope Sega uses some of the extra months they've got to enhance the PS3 version a bit after all the negative publicity. I mean, most people I've heard are still planning to play it on PS3 just for the dual shock controls, but I'll confess it does look noticeably worse and it really shouldn't.
i can't wait for this game. i loved the original DMC. 2 kinda sucked and 3 and 4 were good but not quite great. hope they pull it off with this game again. and for some reason the cheese just makes me want this game more.....
I went through both PS3 and 360 demos and for sure the PS3 version is lacking in quality. Like stated above, no clue why and I hope they fix it as it's the version I am getting. The combat system is easy to get into and pretty rewarding if you can pull off some of the more complex chains. It's not as punishing as DMC combo system.
Platinum Games pretty much stated that they don't endorse the PS3 version, which is being ported by SEGA. If you want to play it right, they said to get the 360 version.
I played the demo today on my 360, and it's awesome.
The visuals on the PS3 are different, but not enough to get me to buy a 360 version. Also, I don't plan on buying a Japanese 360, where the PS3 version will most likely be region free (so far I'm 10-10).
Just went through the demo with the "Easy" setting. And it's still fun to play. They put so much work into make the animations and moves sensual, awesome stuff.
number 2 in that gallery looks way more exaggerated than the others, but her freakishly tiny head still stands out to me every time I see the character. -I'm sure It'll be easy to forget about while playing the game regardless. -at least in between cutscenes. -can't wait to try it
Lol got to love it when marketing folks got their photoshoppy hands on artists material haha.
Like 'Oh btw we need a promo shot by tomorrow, but dont use the head from the game it looks too lowpolies, can't you use that one drawing made by that guy Mental Rayz ?'
Or they were trying to pull some crazy wide angle shot and it turned out to be crap. You know like those Japanese porn mags that try to make the girls butt or rack look big and round.
The head is pretty small man, shes roughly 10 heads tall, which makes for some pretty radical stylisation. Still she looks awesome.
Pior: Dude I thought that kind of stuff only happened to small dodgy places that I worked, you sound like your speaking from experience!!!! do tell even in a PM would be spiffing!
haha no nowhere that far but one thing that happens I think at many studios tho is last minute requests for promo imagery, oh by the way we need that for tomorrow, with close to no respect to/understanding of artists schedules! Can't complain about this atm tho so that's good :P
My girlfriend actually brought this up once. Apparently they´ve taken her proportions from the fashion/concept/clothing world. Just an interesting little thing right there.
Kind of pointless really. Oh well. Enjoy these images.
pior: HAHA oh man the rediculous tales to confirm every word you typed that I could tell. I was the lucky SOB on the recieving end of those requests - many a late night man, MANY A LATE NIGHT! *RAAGE*
Hehe Haz :P
Trailer looks cool, anyone knows if the original jap voices will be available tho? English anime dubs always sound so wrong. I know that the subject matter is fantasy and therefore is not to be taken too seriously but still these english voices really make it sound ridiculous....
Playing through the demo, it actually looks like they scaled her head up slightly, but that might just be an illusion. Either way, she looks fantastic in-game.
Well -grabs hook and reels this thread out of the waters- I just played the demo, and it's FREAKIN' awesome.
Like, there's something SO undeniably stylish about this game. Yes, like others have said, there's cheese, but there's something so good about it. The gameplay felt like something right out of a Devil May Cry game...but, dare I say, MORE awesome? All the different moves you have, the feel of the impact with the dualshock remote... wow. It feels GREAT to play. Oh, and is still challenging--as with the DMC games, I am no stranger to dying. A lot. :P (I love the DMC series dearly, but have always kinda sucked at them )
I have the PS3 demo (don't own a 360, never plan to) and so far in the demo, I haven't noticed any big problems. I am hoping that the techincal issues with the PS3 version over the 360 version don't lower my experience with the game too much.
Overall, a game that I know I will have to buy. The only question remains is whether I buy it when it comes out (Jan 5th over here, I believe?) for the high price point, or maybe wait until it drops... (whenever that will be).
So far though, this game seems a real MUST HAVE for anyone that's enjoyed the DMC series, if not all action-lovers that have an appreciation of style and well-done cheesyness!
Played the demo. Was expecting some degree of weirdness but this is too much for me. Gameplay is alright but I feel like going too deep into someone else's fetish, made me uncomfortable the whole time. Has no appeal at all to me, sadly
I so wish I had a console to play this, I'm having loads of fun doing combos in Batman this looks like it takes it to the nth level, plus with added boobs.
Unfortunately i will probably be sinking my cash into No More Heroes 2, Darksiders, and Mass Effect 2. This game will be played eventually, as it is slick as hell.
played the demo and pre ordered it straight away, looks like im even poorer now. I tried to think of a good description of this game when my friends were asking me what i thought of it all i could come up with was that its absolutely mental.....its so fast paced and the combos are good i really enjoyed it. It reminded me of gungrave on the ps2....but on acid lol
This game really isn't my thing. So bizarre and strange ... why are there butterflies coming from her feet when she lands
Also it seems like you need to remember so many combo's.
Props to the animators though, I really like her walk animation, lol.
I tried the demo on both platforms and I would love to get in on PS3 since I'm still depressed by how much taller my stack of 360 games is than my PS3 collection. Pretty much every game that's available on both consoles I end up getting the 360 versions and I'm still hoping that'll change.
In all honesty, I couldn't see a whole lot of difference between the versions but I did only play for a few minutes when I got the demo's. I hear the PS3 version has issues, anyone know what these are?
There's a review of the PS3 version with the port issues laid out here
Sadly, the PS3 version is less polished than its 360 counterpart, with mini-load screens every time you open the inventory, pauses between action and cut-scenes and, on rare occasions, visual and audio slow-down when the screen's too full. It's a shame, because every stutter feels jarring next to the slick in-game action and cut-scenes. The technical problems don't ruin it, but leave us a little short-changed - we'd happily add a few percent to the score if it could be fixed. Sega are 'investigating' a correctional DLC patch, but nothing's confirmed yet.
I saw some aweful comparison videos today and the PS3 textures are blurry compared to the 360 and it got literally half the framerate. Im not sure what site it was but they had 3 movies of it. (or more, i saw 3) in some cut scenes it was also stuttering or shacking weirdly...
Played the demo, there was just way to much shit all over the screen for me to tell what was going on clearly, the combos seemed alright in a DMC style but im just not a fan of the art direction and weirdness.
my arm hurts [and im also playing "two hand" mode]
This game is so good. The style is definitely... odd, its like Final Fantasy X-2, mixed with that old sega saturn space dancing game, and an all female cast of devil may cry. I've been having to skip the cinematics because some of them are just unbearable to watch. There are only so many i can sit through where Bayonetta shoots off the faces of angels, stomps their heads while asking them if they are cheating on her, or that douchebag Luka character... haha i stopped trying to follow the story. Likewise when going to the Gates of Hell, i dont need a 4 minute cinematic where some dude craps himself by speaking, and comes back with a weapon. There are a few spots as well where the cinematics are before a challenging section, requiring you to skip/wait if you fail (as i have been doing, repeatedly). I have no idea what is going on, but damn its fun.
I'm 7 levels in and just cant get enough, except for the fact that my arm is going to fall off. I'm playing on normal, and there are really some seriously challenging moments... really kicks you in the balls to get you to learn how to master Witch Time and combo timing. I dont think ive been this satisfied with boss battles in a game since God of War 2. Amazing stuff. The introduction of the Joy creatures is fucking awesome.
LOL, quite the opposite of misogyny! You don't put huge tits and skimpy outfits on women 'cause you hate them.
And as skanker pointed out a lot of the art in the game was created by woman.
Yum.
End of that discussion.
Anyway, dumb game. I'm not a fan of the Devil May Cry series or that type of game to begin with, so this one was even more-so a headache to attempt to play. Cool character design, though.
To quote her words while playing the demo : "Woah that's actually kinda cool!!!"
Poop, you should try the game, it's actually shaping up to be a very good surprise. And it plays very, very smoothly.
And honestly once you start playing, the proportions make alot of sense. Check out that move when you end up upside-down, twisting and shooting with the heel guns. The look and animation are AWESOME on that.

It's interesting with the alternative rhythm-based controllers (automatic-play) for attracting people who aren't typical gamers.
Will definitely try this when it's out.

they must have modeled her the right way and just scaled the head down i guess
as long as it makes her boobs look bigger i guess
"A GOTY candidate already in January?"

Also, Katana > all.
It's so over the top it's fantastic.
This is one of the rare games that I'm actually trying to learn combos in. The last one was by Platinum/Clover too; God Hand.
Let's not let this thread get political.
I like this game because the combo system is fun to play and they let me throw a church at a dragon.
A sexy woman is just a bonus for me to look at. I would still enjoy this game just as much if it were a sexy man like Dante.
me -> church
> dragon -> BAM
Yum.
