It's always nice to see this thread being bumped because it always delivers. I'm definitely going to use this technique.
Also, I have had that song stuck in my head since watching the video and I must have listened to it like a dozen times to see if that will help. Either way, I like the song.
Pior, how cool is that! I may have heard of Litspheres and Matcaps before but seeing your video just made me realize how useful this stuff can be. Thanks for sharing
haha, that brightened up my morning, wonder how a lighting technique like that would work on a containing object like an environment rather than a contained one
Wanted to be done by now but got sidetracked ... found out a quick and easy technique for hair basemesh modeling using a russian spline script, more on that later ...
Quick sketch of a more dynamic pose, maybe for another sculpt :
Now its just some more accessories and hair sculpting to be done, can't wait to print!
Sorry for the mini update ... mostly posting it to motivate myself hehe
that hair is hawt! very interested in said script! i still liked the shorter cropped hair though from a damn she's got style pov. don't tease us anymore with this whole "oh i'm going to be done soon" nonsense either... it's unbearable! :P
I definitely prefer the shorter hairdo, but fuck that looks good nonetheless. Love the sketch, too, I'd like to see her rigged up in that pose as well. In short: I'd hit it!
Hehe NW I kinda wanted to finish her completely before posting more ... but I guess it forces me to stay motivated. Still have the very last accessories to do, also added some shoulder beef to make her a bit more Capcomesque.
Did more hair too using Scriptattack's Superpainter again (lost the link earlier but found it again the other day) http://www.scriptattack.com/
It's fantastic when it comes to drawing freehands spline on the surface of objects. Out of all the spline painting scripts out there it is by far the best, allowing for very optimized control points and great gesture smoothing too.
So I took the Superpainter spline hair layout from earlier > used the Push modifier on the Renderable geo to fill the gaps, exported to 3DCoat as Voxels > automatic retopo in 3DC > back in mud to give it more flow > and added some Pathdeformed shapes with some Twist value for the free floating strands.
It's fun but a bit long to do :P Hopefully it won't look to glued-on once printed. Sigh...
Tested a cheap print using Shapeways.com. Scale is 1/6th, the one used on the Appleseed HotToys figures!
A bust like that cost me 32$ to print there, keping in mind that they are limited in filesize meaning that super detailled sculpts cannot be uploaded there. Also their highest quality is not as fine as what Ownage or Protodemon can output. But its cheaper :P
Raw material, but already wet sanded twice. It seems super smooth but it really is not, it's an illusion caused by the translucent material (so dont trust 3d printing websites just from pictures of the raw translucent output. Always ask to see primed models!)
After some priming and more sanding. It looks okay in the picture but still in some areas the printing layers show alot!
Filling the print "stripes" with white putty, thinned with rubbing alcohol.
Final thick layer of primer to really round down everything
Next, shiny coating for sealing, "AO" paint pass and highlights, then matte coat and DONE!
i always thought you just sent it off to a 3d printer and their machines pooped out a badass looking thing you can stick on your desk, didn't know there was so much extra stuff involved.
Hope you can get a super expensive and super massive final one for the whole character, shit looks cool as hell so far :poly142:
...also dude, is that a jumper made out of arm hair you got on there? :P
Haha lol yeah the perspective on my (left) hairy hands always fascinate me :P IRL I'm more normal
As for quality it really depends. Some websites only show unprimed models so it's impossible to tell. Other have a bit of a grainy output but it's okay if big enough. Also some can go uber fine (what I want to do eventually) but its more expensive. The quality can be very impressive tho.
So yeah I went the cheap route here, it's okay for mechanical stuff but for organics its a pain :P
holy shit, just had a thought... is there anyway you can make a 3d print like... pose-able? (seperate arms, legs, torso chunks. With little 'things' connecting them)
you can sign me up for a billion of those if you can man, pior action figures would be sick =D
and yeah forgot to mention, even if it's cheap it did a sexy job on the hair. tho i still like the fleshy bits most, really nice finish
that's stupid cool man
there's a paint called One Shot that is used by sign makers. i've used it in the past and it flippin' kills. you could be painting a block of swiss cheese, and the shit will dry smooth and flat as a baby's ass. you'd probably have to call up a distributor in cali to get it. they may have a sample or two you could buy on the cheap and shipped, but i recommend trying it. it's an enamel, and with the right brushes you can do some clean stuff with it. all in all though, this sort of project where rough cracks and crevs abound, it could help save some time and still give you a great clean look. i'm sure there's other paints out there that i'm completely unaware of, but i just thought i would suggest it.
and yes, fix the two left hands man... i lulz on zacd's post
oh, and One Shot takes 5 centuries to dry, so be prepared for that if you do get a sample or small can, test it on some misc. stuff fo sho

and the art obviously as well.
kidding! Cool stuff man, really awesome how easy it is to create that stuff.
Haha love the music by the way!

A bit off topic, but how exactly are matcaps in zbrush made? I don't seem to find any documentation on Pixologic's website.
can't wait to see it done
do you think maybe we could get a look at the wireframes?
need mah updates :poly142:

*bookmarked*
was getting attached to the short hair but both are awsome man.
Anyone know if it's possible to get custom char's in street fighter yet? :poly142:

Will follow with great interest.

Great work!
