NOM NOM LATEST UPDATE:
some quick thumbnails before I hit the sack. I wanted to make some sort of a nom nom monster ... something that either plowed over people and ate them or straight up munched them to death. Gonna explore quite a bit before starting this time :P

They're looking cool, but I like 2, 5, 10, and 13 best And 3 & 4 are the cutest. And 11 is scariest. Just saying.
(Ok, I've been concepting too much myself... sleeeep)
Good luck with wherever it goes!
Id like to see more full body shape thumnails with armour/saddle or rider etc and a height comparison with a human shape
name: THE NOM NOM SYNERGY
class: demon abomination
BACKSTORY:
The hulking tooth monster was raised and bred solely for one purpose: to chomp. It was tortured and trained by it's rider to be obedient and merciless. The beast has no eyes so it had to rely solely on it's master's commands. The rider and monster were attacked in the underworld by a giant flesh eating worm (seen on the back). The worm ended up borrowing into the guts of the beast and merging with it. The worm lends the beast it's giant eye while it feeds on the rider. The helpless beast is kept barely alive so when the food on it's back runs out it can leech the blood from within. nom nom nom.
I want to continue to develop this guy over the coming days -- the rider is going to look like a jester (he will be missing 1-2 arms and his head/shoulders). I plan to have the harness strapped and nailed to the beast with railroad spikes. The worm will wrap around one side of the beast and lead into it's chest cavity for safe keeping and protection. He'll keep his eye closer to the beast as seen in the silhouettes vs. keeping it raised (as seen on the left).

I was really digging that huge nose tusk on the thumbnail 9. It would be killer if you could incorporate it with your Nom Nom!:)
@woogity: awesome show! must have left more of an impression than i thought :P
@mikezoo: horns are totally going on there -- was thinking about making it part of the battle armor.
@enderstaley: thanks man
@peterK: gonna explore some more tonite and exaggerate proportions even more ... thx!
@rats78: i'm not sure yet...as long as they are stumpy and tiny I think I will be happy. Will have to explore.
Thanks for all the feedback guys!
Very refreshing concept!

Keep it up.
I'll check back to see how you progress.
cheers

OK, had guests in the house for a few days so I was unable to start modeling when I would have liked ... but I am back on track! here's tonite's progress. Looking to have this guy modeled in a week or so (with the bulk happening this weekend), then ZBrush fun fun happy time.
or made them scared talking about monsters?
I like the barbed wire on you first picture;
will you add it latter?
in a good way.
gross.
@konstruct - thanks!
@coldkodiak - imagine what the female ones look like! :P
nice modeling duuude.
Today's progress :P Still a long way to go, but I am on track to have this guy modeled and ready for ZBrush action next weekend. Crits and comments are very much appreciated ... especially now that the blocking is a little more solid.
The art style reminds me Slimer from Ghost Busters movie, nicely designed and funny creature. Lots of fun modelling in zbrush:).

i like style and design, keep it up, mate.
what next- sculpting?
@notebookguy: it's just a little over 10K tris right now -- I am going to do a massive remesh once it is sculpted
@kozlow: thanks! I can't wait to start sculpting!
@woogity: ty ty! I was shaky on the hairs, but I think I'm going to keep them
@aldo: I want to do the inside of the mouth so bad, but I am nervous about the tri count. If I have tris left over after my remesh I am totally going for it. I want to see this thing scream
@conte: thank you! yep -- I want to be sculpting next weekend
@soda: gracias!
Cutting down the number of sides on the spikes will probably help with your poly count so you can add a bit more maneuverability to the beasty's legs. You might even consider the two-plane alpha method for the shorter spikes, especially if you don't plan on bending them. The caterpillar would benefit from those few extra loops as well. You could also join some of the teeth together and sculpt them out in ZBrush if you don't plan to show inside the beasty's mouth.
Good stuff!
im diggin the silhouette
tonite's progress...not much ... developed the worm more (he has back feet now!) and added random gear to the nom nom. what do you guys think about the horns? yes? no? if I add them they will be part of the gear, not actually part of the monster. Was going to have them attached below the saddle via a metal strap.
Right now can't make it out if horn or not...when viewed from side pose...
-Woog
give us some more!
cheers.
last night's progress. Worked the saddle, straps and horns out. Also added some shaders so I could see wtf was going on :P

Perhaps you could add some food leftovers between the teeth? Since bad dental hygiene seems to be his primary feature. And drool, you've got to add that eventually!
