yeaha! Neat ideas but I think you have to keep working on it. The first one is great because its polished and well done. The second makes me laugh a little more then it instills fear.
sphinx bot is well painted, Im not sure I like the shapes though - the server on its head and the gun in the chest and the tiny legs. I would like to see big powerful legs and more aggresive shapes on the cool bits like the crown and guns.
Thanks for the critiques guys-- Yeah, I am going to have to think more about the Sphinx design. In the meantime something a bit more traditional for Dom War:
I was looking at the 2D winners last year and took a stab at trying to get the same style. Not sure I completely succeeded, but I am still pretty happy with the image. A Norm with Poseidon's Trident, which lets her control anything in the sea and breath underwater-- I think I may add a pet later.
This is also an iteration on the first concept in the thread.
You're rocking these concepts Ninjas. Sphinx is rad. It's the one of these sketches that I saw a glimpse of the final picture in my head..raining artiellery on hordes of demons with that expressionless face looming above them. War machine indeed
There's some pretty solid ideas going on here. I prefer the sphinx with the gun on the front. Have you decided which you're going to take into 2D and which into 3D?
Kamui: Yeah, I am worried about the "prow" obstructing the view of the face from a low viewing angle, so I am still not sure how to go on that. I think I may do the Sphinx in 3D even though it will be super hard.
audi100: That movie is awesome!
MoP: Haha, man I misread that 3 or 4 times. I guess I was so worried that it was tasteless that I refused to accept it wasn't tasteless enough
Ged/coldkodiak: Thanks for the specific feedback guys-- I wanted to put some ICBM launchers on the back, but I think you are right that it doesn't read well. I will change it up like you guys suggest.

bounchfx: Robo-cock would make it a she-male... ohhhhh, rad. I think if I went with 2 legs I would have to go more in a Easter Island head direction
Maybe put the gun lower on the chest and angle it downwards to blast ground troops? It's gotta have a mean front assault weapon! I agree you don't want to obscure the face.
Hey Muzz, horses are quite different than other mammals. A lion's leg does look like that, however, the elbow should be much further up near the shoulder.
Very cool, I love the scale of this thing. I agree with Kamui that the legs, mainly the back ones, would look more natural if they were based off of lion anatomy. I also think that some of that green color that is on the face would look good placed in a few more spots over body of the model so that its not so isolated to the face.
This character is Human Plus-- a human whose genetics have been reverted to enhance their magical powers. His gear is the latest in magi-tech; arms and armor back engineered from magical artifacts and mass produced:
Kamui: I have been thinking about that a lot-- I may model this guy or something like him and enter the Sphinx in 2D

Still playing around with ideas-- here is a cyborg. The robot has a human controlled gun.
I think I am just going to sketch for the first week or two-- then I may start trying to decide on what characters I want to do for what entry
Sphinx Bot!
This could be sweet though!
HAHAHHuman controlled gun hahahahHAHAH man!
This is also an iteration on the first concept in the thread.
just sayin'
i like how your exploring all of the possible races
The last concept looks pretty sexy
haha, yeah, it is a bit much...
Here is more SphinxBot: Detailing out this side view was taking forever:
Guess I'am not the only one who saw that anime with the walking house/castle =P
i think he was suggesting it, actually
same.
I kinda liked it just having two legs .. haha, still looks great.
don't forget the giant robotic penis laser between the legs!

Started playing with the colors
Sphynxbot is major pwnage.
!!!HOLY CRAP DUDE!!! this has win written all over it.
I'm wondering how it would look with a bit of a tail, something short. What do you think?
so original,unique and pure coolness:)
Be careful with the front and back legs, The legs of a 4 legged animal have joints in different areas for a reason. So technically the front legs elbow is bent backwards.

the feeling of weight shoots straight down the legs, giving an impression of power and strength
These are kind of warm up for 2D technique

Almost forgot. Sphinx leg update:
