Tried experimenting with a more engineered look. Kinda boring I think. Mech design isn't one of my strengths...Maybe I'll just say he's cyborg, so I can leave in the tendrils as is.
mwoah. Beautiful concept you got there, not too keen on the feet, they look a bit flimsy compare to the rest, i'd love to see some support on the back of the foot or something, for balance. The rest is eyecandy
hmm, im not a fan of the stubby arms, but the rest is looking pretty wicked.
I think the main thing that is missing from the last pic is a feeling of action . Well he is being a little bit less dynamic, as the last pic wasn't that action full either.
This is really coming together, Snowfly. Its awesome seeing the progression you've made with each post. I really like the colours and the style, but the hands are the weakest part of the concept in my opinion. They're small and feeble and don't seem at all that threatening. Your earlier sketches with the bulky arms were looking better, especially with the giant gun attachment.
Looks awesome. My only worry is how the thighs are connected to the pelvis. Also the feet doesn't seem to have a very good hold on the ground. Perhaps making them bigger?
YAARR, getting my geek on. Finally got it into the direction I wanted. I'm going to be doing the ST-Michael Variant
Thanks for the feedback, I'm bummed that I couldn't work all of it in! I had a pretty solid intention for this guy from the start, just took a bit of warming up and hammering away to get there. For now, just focusing on nice looking forms. I'll figure out the functionality bit in 3D probably.
-edit- just seeing this now on my office monitor. ugh, bad monitor calibration bites me in the arse again.
The one you chose is totally rad, but don't you think his arms look a little immobile? I kind of feel like there should be another joint in there or they should be longer or something.
It will be interesting to see St. Michael variant combined with the marine unit. because it as is now looks a bit stiff n awkward. i wish i could draw robots like you babe
I really like this, and the idea behind it is great, but you need to push the use of symbols and decorations or else the religious machine theme just won't come through.
jesus fucking awesome shapes and overall feel in the concepts !! if you manage to do the same in the 3d port , then we have one of the top winners do you have bigger res of those concepts btw ?
I mostly like the 'Michael Variant' version of the bot on the previous page. Mainly for the interesting silhouette created by those gun/blade looking things, also like the colour distribution you have going there.
whew, haven't posted in a while, and all i bring is a sloppy painting need more time for this thing.
just trying to figure out a visual vocabulary for the guy. this isn't necessarily what the final design will look like, i'm probably just going to wing the patterns as i go, following the same theme.
kite: thanks man! your demon king is looking fantastic!
tumerboy: thanks!
r4ptur3: thanks!
psyk0: yeah i kinda like land assault still. he could be as interesting made into a character. but i have thing for airborne thingies, so he's shelved for the moment.
woods: augh still haven't nailed the actual mechanics of the guy. perils of modeling mecha.
wicked-j: yup, kind of hard to choose one. you're rocking your 2D entry btw!
per: yeah i guess that one's got potential too. it just looks too close to some gundams i've seen.
hntrluc: thanks!
milk: yeah i hope i can fix the stiffness with a nice looking final pose.
spark: thanks for the encouragement man! loving your entry this year!
dfacto: thanks man, i considered your crit the most, since you know your robots. still trying to find a nice balance for the decor.
rens: thanks, you knock out some pretty decent paintings too!
johny: thanks man, haven't quite nailed the same shapes yet, but it's getting there i hope. i'm still studying your hard models like mad, still haven't quite gotten the hang of it. yeah, all the concepts are scaled down for posting, i'd post the high res versions but they're sloppy as hell.
dur23: glad you like the st-michael, it's tempting to restart the concept sometimes.
408: war paint and patterns considered!
whiteeagle: thanks man, still working on the guns, got to make them extra special.
ericv: thanks man, can i hit you up for hard modeling tips? i'm struggling with them so much.
davidskiwan: yay, another vote for st-michael!
jfletcher: thanks man, hope i can leech some of your machine modeling skills.
mojo: thanks buddy, i was wondering where you were! yeah the land assault guy was alright, but kind of a copout. i may go back to him for hard modeling practice after the war though.
gotta agree with muzz man. the elbow structure in particular is alot mor interesting in the original, also the larger hailo draws more attention to the tiny face, and the thigh groups appear less heavy. i also liked the "hood" like structure of the chest platecoming up over the head. thats a fantastic concept tho, and you have really left it open for a lot of goodideas.

(especially on the post number 28)
outside of that, i love it
I have mixed feelings about the head. While the new iteration looks more badass, the old on looked more freaky with the baby-forehead, and messy mouth

That aside, its looking great and keep it up.
I wonder what weapon this will carry.

shiet! you got some drawing skills dude, respect!

cant wait to see this in 3d, will be watching this thread.
Cheers!

And i cant really say that i like the feel of the face.
I think that with bots if you want to try and make them less rigid in form, draw them in action! It forces you to make them more functional!
Keep working it!

It was this or sumo ninja.
He needs to have a callsign in there, "Commodore Curtiss 'Cuddles' Grumman"
