God damnit, everyones using alchemy and im being stubborn and pissing about with photoshop - have to say it looks awesome for making quick abstract silouettes, that look dope!

Scale that war machine up up up!
If nothing else, it's a great way to relax and get your mind in a creative frame before you start working.
Really looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Snowfly.
Thanks guys, yeah Alchemy was useful to get a start. That first sketch is a composite of parts of 15 different Alchemy drawings. Still working out the masses of the boy, he's too anime for my taste at the moment, but here's the idea I want to develop:
Ninjas - Heh no 2D this year. It's my yearly ritual. Enter 3D and bomb out unspectacularly. I'm looking to buck the trend this time.
I find that has a lot to do with meaningless greeble in a design, so trying to minimise this and replace it with clean functionality and form works really well. i mean what are those wing things for? Making it fly when its a mech that is at least 20x20x20?
Also throwing in some more unique masses would probably make a world of difference.
Probably the two best references i can think of to try and break out of the anime mould would be keith thompson, and izmojuki.
Still playing around with the shapes, but I'm getting a good feeling from this one. The thumbs in my sketchbook look cooler though. The cathedral references got diluted so I'll try to play those back up.
I was feeling scatter-brained last night so all I got down was scraps of bad prose. That's not his name, and the idea is the robots AI gets so evolved that they start believing in the existence of gods getting their back, and start decking themselves out in religious symbols to fight back the demons.
The large blue discs were originally supposed to be holy light blasters, but I think I'll stick with missile launchers. I still want him to be a walking arsenal. For their design, I want to add glaucus atlanticus to the equation:
i love the jist of it, and the fact you're getting away from the anime mechs in this direction is good.
I dug however, like all the flying wing parts stuff from the last concepts. You should get some of that stuff back. Also your proportions need some balancing between that gun hand, and the other hand.
The Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Titans have a lot of cathedral architectural motifs running through them, the Imperator being the most blatant with turrets on his back, statues around his shins and stained glass windows at ankle level.
Probably not exactly the direction you want to take, but it might make for some useful references
Hey cool, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I really liked what you had going for yourself during the last competition. I'm joining polycount this year too, so I'll see ya around.
Heh, thanks guys. Here's the partial result of my robot+Hind+cathedral+slug concepting. I definitely want him to be less organic overall though, but I'll probably figure that part out in the 3D blockout.
The head was my favorite part; distilling something out of a helicopter front and a slug face Everything is still FFAAAR from final!
coldkodiak - yeah i kind of miss the wing like parts myself, and they'd do a lot for his side view. i guess it depends whether or not they add anything to his beauty poses, since i see a lot of parts sucking up the triangle budget already
jackablade - some neat ideas in there, although too literal. i really like what's going on on the lower body, thanks for the ref man!
muzz - heh steering away from the anime bot look is such a conscious thing. i find a lot of those robot designs exciting to look at and it's tempting to just straight out copy sometimes.
enderstaley - thanks man. the religion thing is not something i want to play up too much though. in the end i want him to be as religious as tribal warriors marking themselves with tattoos of whatever gods they believe in.
chaoseidolon, jesse, organizedchaos, xaltar, konstruct, sir gimp - thanks!
conte - heh thanks for the bump mate loving what you have going on in your thread
last concept is rockin man, I would change up the color scheme to black and green so it feels more polycount-ish. (There's a rule stating judging will also take into account how well you represented your forum of choice)

OMG, the pope is making a dominance war entry too?
I do think there should be a little boy controlling it all up front!
That's looking sick.
your guy is looking pretty good, just gotta flush out the details.
I think pick a couple of features that are really strong and play them up. what sense of scale are you imagining?
Though i must agree with the too anime thing.

His back looks pretty darn immovable as it is right now, how bout a bit of articulation?
Or perhaps you just didnt draw that in .
you should give the design alittle Beksinski-ness to it, cathedrals always make me think of this painting
