i hate it when people modify their posts for whatever reason - just stay true and ad perhaps a comment like that your host is offline, it has a bug or whatever but dont just remove the original link/post ect. its really annoying
That will probably be the first thing i do a proper walk through on instead of just a timelapse, Shep. Think im about ready to start doing chatty cathy stuff on top of these videos.=)
Yeah, I ended up getting too drunk to figure out how to get the audio recording to sound nice last night, but did another sculpt at lunch. This time some sorta dinosaur. =O
Seems I cant embed my videos from vimeo here. Whatever. If you look at the page now you c an see a edit topology tutorial,
I realize th e audio quality is poor, so if anyone has some tips on setting that up so it doesnt sound terrible, please do tell. I'll give it another render.
A tip : set the original tool to a lower subdivision level while building the topology, then crank it back up when you do the projection. Speeds it up a ton.
High five, Will! Normally it runs perfectly smoothly on whatever subdiv I pick, I guess i never thought to turn it down. Camtasia turns out to be a lot heftier of a load than I anticipated.=)
If anyone has suggestions for zbrush how-to videos(or mudbox, for that matter) I'll most likely oblige. I don't wanna be wordy so I wanna try and do breakdowns in 10 minutes or less.
I'll continue posting my daily lunch-work until I can get together some more chatty chats.
Great little videos Joe. The retopo stuff is great learnin' and the lunchtime doodles are fun creative exploration. Curious about the material you're using though, I can't seem to find any matcap materials that are that good for allaround sculpting. Mind sharing?
Thanks Helixx. The material is BG_Horror. However, I do not have it handy. I'll try and dig it up later but I am running out the door to get dinner. Google may provide it beforehand, though!
I posted another video, this time of the modeling stage before I take a monster into zbrush. =O
Google to the rescue. I was able to find the matcap material, thanks. New character looks fun. Curious about the meshsmoothing though. Are you going to be keeping the model at that level of subdivision or is the smoothing applied to see what will happen when you subdivide in zbrush? Anyway keep us posted on the development.
Zbrush and I are not smoothing buddies. I don't like how it smooths. I almost always divide my sculpting meshes before I bring them in at least once. Keep in mind these are by no means going to be used for my low poly model. I will rebuild that at the end. It's better to not lock anything down before you sculpt so you can be a bit more experimental.
Those arms, for instance. I most certainly am not going to be sculpting them in that pose. I'll transpose them when i get in zbrush and work it out from there.
Checked out some of your videos, really amazing, already RSS-ed your site!
Oh and if you accept requests I would like to see more videos with learning focus of zBrush, really would help us who are just starting to know zBrush a ton!
So since these things have gotten faster as the time working on them got longer, was there anything you could not glean from the videos that I could explain here? I feel like it's likely?
been enjoying the little sculpts, I particularly enjoyed your choice of brushes to create big forms and types of surfaces like on the gremlin head. Also learnt a bit about subtools, I know mudbox better than zbrush to be honest.
Is Mask By Cavity what you're using to get that effect as if you'd drybrushed the sculpt with a mask? Whatever it is it seems like a really smart way to make the horns look more weathered (for lack of a better word) quickly.
Matt: that's exactly what and why I did it. Good catch.=) If you soften the mask by holding control and clicking you can used clay brush/stander brush over the top bits and pull slightly up giving nice raises and then flip it and give some sharp creases to other bits.=)
Thanks Conte

Didn't mean to annoy you, Render=O
what brushes do you use btw? looks like standard brush with smooth brush or something.. amiright?
MOAR
Japhir: I primarily use standard and smooth. I also really use move and clay tool a ton. Sometimes inflate?
I posted my lunchtime doodlefest on the page again.=O

Minotaur Timelapse video 3
This is a dry run, not final textures or unwrap, just wanted to make sure capturing photoshop and other business was going to work alright.=)
Minotaur Retopology Video
Minotaur UVs and reprojecting
This one is sorta whack and not all that interesting. Again, going up for posterity.
