I usually dont post here alot, dunno why, but this REALLY caught my eye.
I'd notice those scales on the arms anywhere.. :P
^_^
now that i look at it, even the red scales are the same, and the white chest.
Good find, I thought he ripped it from another Naga, but he took it from a drake, huh... Interesting. I can almost excuse his behavior if he was learning and borrowed from non published work AND gave credit to the original artist. But to hack up bits from such a big MMO like WoW and try to pass them off as new assets in another MMO, that's just pretty arrogant and... stupid.
I think he's crossed the line from:
"oh that's cute he's copying and pasting"
to
"oh shit he's trying pass off actual published work as his own AND its going into competing games"
Yeah, I think you guys who are showering Sympathy on this guy, need to stop. This guy is Definitely in the Wrong. This is just too much. He is not a student. He is selling stolen work. He is being a Bastard Deserves the Full Wrath of his peers and Colleagues.
I've no problem outing people publicly with this sort of shit so long as its justified.
Amen Brother.
If he was a student, I would feel very very different and totally agree with Per and the rest. But he's entered the realm of getting paid, and trying to stand shoulder to shoulder with guys who make their living making good legitimate art. In my mind this guy stands shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Runyon and Mr. Deforgery or whatever the hell his name was.
He did some work on Fate, a Wild Tangent game as a contractor. I talked to a buddy of mine that worked on Fate and he said he was on contract. Hopefully he wasn't a complete dumbass and what he did for them was 100% original. He specifically worked on the Walrus, as well as other creatures and players. If you see anything it shares similarities with, I'm sure they would like to know.
Witchhunts like these are deeply satisfying on a schadenfreude level, but rather frightening at how quickly this shit can snowball and potentially nuke this guy's career.
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be busted and to be blacklisted if he's stealing work like this, but its scary none-the-less.

You are rigt, it is scary, that's why you shouldn't do it!
But for real, this guy was very amateur If he wanted to make some new ORIGINAL shit that would be fine. I don't think his career was nuked, because frankly it did not seem like he had one just yet, but he was on the path. I think he just needs to start from scratch. Which isn't that bad because he hasn't got very far.
Looks like he just ripped down his models section, along with his animation section.
Looks like he ripped down his whole site to me ! I was about to say this felt like limbo of the lost, when people at neogaf were hunting down the source of each image... except this puzzle was alot harder since it wasnt a direct screengrab Too bad it ended so quickly!
It seems as though this guy doesn't even have respect for art itself, as long as he can make money doing it.. Then why not steal other people's hard work for an easy buck?
It breaks my heart that he can get a job, yet there's real artists who have worked their asses off and are having difficulties.
I just go against popular opinion, man, I can't help it.
But in seriousness, when it was just one image that contained a few pixels lifted from a texture, I thought it was mean to bring it out in the open and judge the guy without looking further into it. Now that the looking further into it has been done, and it turns out he's not some 12 year old noob, but some cracker who lies and deceives and makes a habit out of ripping art, yeah he gets no sympathy from me.
Let's just try to be careful with these things, because a thread like this may end up giving someone a bad reputation undeservedly, problems getting jobs and so on, maybe over a misunderstanding, and that wouldn't be cool.
Maybe I was too quick to speak, everything was brought up after your posts.
I apologize.
I happened to save all the images posted here before he ripped 'em down
I saw a glimpse of a thumbnail that seemed very familiar, would you happened to have saved an image of a dwarf like model? had a helmet...and a beard, thats about all i could see from the thumbnail.
Was just curious, looks like a character that someone i know (not personally), may have created.
Hey dude, i think that is the right attitude to have for sure, most of the time people will just hide out and disappear instead of just admitting that they were wrong. Sure you may have made some mistakes, but if you realize that these are mistakes, and that this isn't the right way to go about doing things, i think you will be fine.
Stick around, post some of your *own* art here for critique, i think that would be the best possible thing you could do.
the thing i find strange about this is the double side of it all i rember while back a well loved and well liked member of the community (someone who i have always regarded as a friend) was busted using cut and pasting from someone elese texture for pay work. the work was stolen from someone who is mostly hated in these forums (i'm not a big friend of his, tho i do not hate him) and in that case the majority of the community piled up and defended the actions of the person in the wrong, and then promptly swept the whole thing under the carpets, all the threads were deleted, not just locked (i believe so may be wrong there, but no searching can find any mention of it besides this bit on some forum in some other lingo)
even on other forums it was quickly burried. i'm not saying in that incident there may have or may have not been good excuses, but i do rember the over all reaction being a lot different.
as for you andvari, shame on you, you deserve a spanking, get your act together, you are now on everyones radar and will be treated with a skeptical eye from now on
Although I believe you deserve what has happened here; I also think it was courageous to man up to such a cowardly act. Work hard and come back! It must have been nerve racking relying on finding finished textures... Think how free you will be of that once you can create your own.
I think this quote from Morrissey is fitting;
from "Cemetry Gates"
If you must write prose and poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarize or take "on loans"
There's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall
It was a good move posting here in this thread Andvari, I for one definitely dont think so negatively of you anymore at least, not that it matters to you since I'm a nobody anyway
Thanks for that Perna, and for your support on the first posts :P
I really wanted to land a job in Canada so I made a lowpoly model for my portfolio. Videogame development in my country (Chile) is non existant and using parts of bobo's texture to make a nice 128x128 skin was too tempting. But well... that's not the right way to do it
Sorry for that bobo I really respect and admire your work.
personally I would shit bricks constantly, i dont know how you handled the stress of what KP is getting at. I guess im just a paranoid hermit who is scared of the underside of his own hands....

He knows he's copypasting, so he's not being inspired, just disrespectful.
I say it's important to draw the line early, an artist is better off developing in the right direction before he goes too far with this kind of stuff.
They all lose you win..
Shhhhhhhh.....

Hahah, yeah its just like playing wheres waldo with stolen artwork. YAY!

Not the actions of an innocent man...

Bah...
No just carry on! I love a good witch hunt
And a couple of threads where our friend Bruno Camousseigt Montolivo (b. 3/14/1984) of Chile drops some legal advice and professional advice
"...Also, most of his contributions seems to be models ripped straight out of the games.
That can be made using reverse engineering programs, which utilization in copyrighted software, as far as i know, is illegal too =/"
"Really really good work, but you're charging too cheap!. With your skills you shouldn't charge less than USD 200 per model"
Maybe I was too quick to speak, everything was brought up after your posts.

I'm really ashamed of my acts and will be out of the 3d scene for a while, until I improve my skills.
I deserve the hate of the artists community hope I can fix my reputation someday.
