still working on this:
crits are most welcome at this point, the anatomy of the arm and chest are bugging me a bit. And obviously I didn't work out all the seems yet.
The dark purple eyes and mouth don't look right against dark purple skin. Needs more contrasting colour... unless you just haven't got to them yet :B
landscape speed paints from today 1hr each also spent some time updating the design of my portfolio site so its simpler and cleaner.
Jfletcher thats really nice but I feel like its textured rather than lit if you know what I mean? the lighting is just too even all over I think your work would be even cooler if you focus on cool lighting, get all the speculars and shadows looking really cool even if they cover some of the details.
Thanks for the crit! Yeah lighting seems to be my biggest trouble, definitely need to find some exercises.
Awesome speed paints! i really like the perspective in the second one.
Anyways enough 2d crap from me, i decided i wanted to have a go at a bit of environment art for a change, drew this very quick ortho and have started modeling it:
Costume is finished!!!! for the most part lol...After these pictures I added a red ribbon to the shield and will be adding a strap to the front of the shoulders so they actually stay on lol
Total price for costume: ~$15
colors: gold metallic spray paint, water (for texture)http://www.jiajem.com/paint.html, flat cream spray paint lighten the gold, black paint for aging, red whiteboard marker for coppering, black sharpie for designs, and red felt that i found
pieces: shield lucky find at dollar store, blank mask and clothing elastic from MICHAELS, big belt from A.J. Wright, black shaul from previous halloween as vampire, rest is stuff from around the house
sorry for the bad quality of these two pics it's late and my camera isn't cooperating
The individual pieces can be seen on my photobucket.
So many crazy things here.
So this is the place to "Show Off"
in the 2009 edition thread?
Have to hurry!
Here are two works (diffuse only)
about two games I like.
I you haven't tried "Machinarium" yet
you should have a look at this site:
MoP, JFletcher, good to see you.
Your Swamp monster and Robot were both really cool.
I miss DW thrilly days! Hope we can all take part in the next event.
These days, I don't have time to try new useful tools
that could help for the next comp. It will surely be a hard time.
Take care.
I do insist that you have a look at Machinarium
It is quite a masterpiece (Adventure puzzle game with really good music)
A work in progress shot at my attempt at painting
I can't seem to be able to block in the forms very clearly...
Taking forever to get this far, anyone have any good learning
resources or tuts for speed paint'ish workflows?
if anyone has good marmoset settings for alpha id love to see them.
good alpha settings in marm? MWHAHAHHHAHAHAHA
no seriously...um apart from moving the slider -i found it worked best with an alpha of no gradients (grey) - soooooo basically sucky for hair planes.....but the bloom will disguise that anyway :P
the high priestess of marmoset (Eq) can correct me if i'm wrong
Trying to finish this. Turning out to be more difficult than i thought it would be. Only having 1 ref taken from one angle makes it difficult to judge the depth of anything. I just wish i had one.....i could totally see some metal band using one on stage while a minature stonehenge gets lowered
Some character I`ve been working on for some time. It was supposed to be my hipoly mesh to bake nomrlas etc. Unforunately I lost all of the data for the body so I`ll have to start over... but hey! at least I`ll learn somthing
@ mr. keen, how do you edit/move the verts of the cubes you can make in unity?
@ gav. awesome work as always
@ Jfletcher. can you tell or show us a bit of your painting process ? @MM. sweet sculpt, I love the huge...neck muscles
Fletch... maaaannnn you are too good! If anything, I'm not liking the top of the house (wood piece), you could add 1 cut in the middle of the top piece and then have it stretch a bit to create that long piece of wood.

Jesus @ that bike man, insane

Anyways, I left that robot chap unfinished to get on with other work, I found some time today to finish it.
defo let me get my portfolio out of the way and we should cook up some cool stuff!
Made a small scene with my experimental threedee.

(Yeah, similar to UC zeppelin tower)
Edit:
model updated a bit
making some weapons for torchlight mod-fun.
Imp Slayer. It's a one-hander, which is convenient for sipping a lat

Ani, garagarape, JFletcher, Slum... kick-ass work
Started texturing it, done some of the wall:
EDIT:

here's me for self portrait day (1 nov)
Nice stuff guys.
I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, using tiling for everything like WoW.
Granted there are a couple messy areas im go over. (and it should look a lot less bland when ive got the windows and door in)
@ Kickzombies
That's insane!
Soooo much win. I'm sorely jealous. I struggle badly with that style of texturing. Beautiful work.
EDIT: now with AO and proper uving of oblong shapes:
Gav
@ gav. awesome work as always
@ Jfletcher. can you tell or show us a bit of your painting process ?

How do you create the wiring and pipes? Extruding? Paths?
As always gav, love the style!

TOO MUCH INSPIRATION!!!
still working on it
