Wicked, dig the cycling banner of member's artwork too.
One thing I might suggest (may have been said already) would be to change the colour of the text you see while entering a new post. It's currently dark green, which isn't too bad, but doesn't stand out too well against the black background of the message box.
Maybe a lighter green or plain old white/gray would be a better choice?
I'm with Pior for the extra infos mouse over bubble
makes things more clear..
Pior> eclaircis ta deuxieme image , t as un ptit probleme dans les couleurs du fond :poly136: un ecran trop sombre ou trop contraste peut etre?
je suis sur mac, donc le gamma different a ptet joue pour le voir
interessante modif sinon
On a side note has anyone else had an issue with random pages throwing errors and having to abort? I'm not sure but I think it only happens in IE. I had this happen on a page in gen discussion and in SWAYWO.
I really dislike the gallery mode when clicking on a image (happend as I clicked on a to large image). A slow and time consuming tween effect then appears between each image. I'd really like to see that one go away.
My suggestion instead:
simple rescale to the layout size of the image,- if you click on it open the image in a new tab- simple, less CPU intense and works with every browser.
other things, partly already mentioned:
- the banners are great but to often I am as well rather interested in the orgin of the picture- whereas the link of the banner always links to the forum index.
The Author´s name could be rendered in HTML using a link to the orginal thread and a much more dynamic system.
- the banner size eats almost 1/3 of my screen size before it was less,- it forces me to always scroll abit down,- always! . My suggestion thus: make it a bit smaler so its at least 1/5 th or less
Other? On my list I have Polycount.black where everything is centred or regular polycount where everything is... perfectly functional, but not cool and new. Plus the wide screen variants.
Question.
There is a 120 character limit on signatures (including BB code). Also, [size] tags are said to not be allowed. Can this be changed? Your signature magically violates both these rules, Adam. Danke!
*also, would be nice to have the option of disabling smilies in the signature.
so does mine,- lucky me however as I created it before that limit. Allowing more characters would be nice esspecially if you want to set a link which alone cal already 30 characters depending on the url.
I like Pior's redesign, although I don't like the overuse of black areas. Imo the dark gray colour behind username and the really dark gray box for separating the posts should stay that colour.
And as others have said, this green font for typing quick replies sucks Its good for the URLs though
(hint hint, that's why user-side theme overrides would be the coolest thing hehe)
Just noticed the new automatic image resizing. It's fantastic!!
Maybe there is a way to make the fullsize image appear by clicking the reduced one (as opposed to clicking the grey bar)? The Gingerbox forums do it that way, very slick.
Also I noticed that in Firefox the resized images are antialiased but in IE they are not. I understand we can't really store downscaled images on the polycount server but maybe there is some more powerful rescaling script available (other than the browser's defaults?)

I think that way you'd get a conflict with linking images to e.g. websites, which is basic functionality, and the resizing script.
dear pior thanks for your all engagement and everyone else thanks for the hype lol ...
i just wrote my reply and it was killed by the browser
anyway so im keepin it short.. all your critiques are great
most of them are allready mockedup as adam stated.
you seem to give it just the extra prove that we are doing the right thing.
lookin forward to see tho wholething turned into an actuall full package.
somebody mentioned the readability on the banner area. actually i wannit to be actually text and logo on the side to be png to be ontop of the image so
u can actually click the authors name ... logo and image seperatly to lead to different destinations.... yadaydadyada..
thanks everyone for your comments i was suprised myself by the fact that this was made public but obviously reactions are positive... what a relief lol
Not sure if this request belongs in this thread or not, but the Search syntax could really use some luvin. I should be able to use booleans (AND OR NOT) and quotes, but they don't seem to work. Might be this setting?
Search seems broken. Try searching for "reflection window texture" (without the quotes). Should at least return this thread, but I get Sorry No Matches.
Edit... oops, I get the polycount.BLACK thread instead. Weird.
I disagree. "Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd" looks silly, and were an art-based forum where looks are really important. Personally I didnt even notice this copyright thing since I rarely scroll down all the way to the bottom and actually read that section down there, but I'm sure someone notices it and every time they do they'll be like "argh stupid Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd thingy!"
I think that we need a chat room. Recently I have some quick questions that I don't really think deserve it's own thread but at the same time I could really use the help.
The page goes a little off the right of the screen for me. I'm on 1024x768 and in Google Chrome... the only one which doesn't have this problem is the old polycount_wide.
Now that you're hacking away at the spacestation's innards, would it be possible to get like a plugin which lets you go to the previous/next page/thread with a hotkey?
Does anyone know of a greasemonkey script that could do this? I'm all for keeping the boards themselves fast (and streamlined in terms of looks as well! Pior's mockup does a good job of that), so if I could use a script to do that, that'd be cool.

opera often does that with just space as far as it can autodetect the website,- hit space till you reach the bottom of the page,- and the next space press goes to the next page,- works for me here on this board.
If you have the newest release of Opera those shortcuts might be disabled by default (they are downgrading their software lately in order to compete better with Firefox and IE) goto:
Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Shortcute > enable single-key shortcuts
that should enable those shortcuts, btw.:
[1]= left next tab
[2] = right next tab
the space key works with many websites,- including google sites,- yahoo, some other forums I assume at the backend its somekind of JS- but a nice feature.

nice job guys, really like this
Much improved. A quick comment: the text while typing replies is a bit hard to see.
And the random header images could use a small dark gradient at the bottom so the "Art by" line can be more easily read.
As an aside, the new forum style can be used to properly calibrate monitors. :poly136:

Mostly trimming down stuff, moving things around aso...
Hope this helps!

but nice banner idea
finally the new theme is here
I'm stuck with old school grey-green Polycount here.
it must be something else

A bit weird. Works on my Opera 9.62 install without everything being centered. Did you clear the cache?

Eric, fulltext is setup already.

You may now write your novel for a signature.
No need to be a smartass
Your sig violates the rules as they were set before. So EAT IT :poly124: :poly124:

1 less thing to be annoyed about!
Just a suggestion.
This I can get used to
What about the new look for homepage of polycount - (this one) -
http://polycount.com/
I think this page deserve some change too !!!
Server: irc.freenode.net
Channel: #model_design
Enjoy
As for Polycount.com - thats coming!
I think pior's mock-up looks really good btw.
Updates are generally awesome though, thanks for all the work!

that image at the top is going to take some getting used to, sheesh. seems a bit large at first, but is cool i guess! horray arts.
