Thank you guys so much! I don't draw nearly as often as I should, but I'm hoping to change that in the upcoming months.. gonna try to get into a routine and learn things that have been on my list for a while (anatomy and colors, mainly!)
did a couple quick sketches (maybe 40 min each?) recently I figured I should post:
Thanks dude! I really want to start doing more of these again, my schedule is just so freakin' hectic lately that it's been difficult to find time. BUT HERE'S ANOTHER!
edit: and I just noticed that I say the same thing every post - that I want to do more. GUESS IT'S TIME TO MAKE A REAL EFFORT. Goal now: at least 1 a week.
I wanted to do it rougher and perhaps use paintstorm but by the time I finished the sketch I forgot to switch over , and of course I over-rendered compared to my goals. I'm gonna set some time limits on the next one I do and try paintstorm for realsies.
another study, this one was a little over an hour I think? used paintstorm for this one. It feels so good. great color mixing and brush feel. For the price, I definitely recommend it !
looking great, dude! you can really see a progression in those girl quick-paints, in terms of detail captured and in terms of economy of brushstrokes. My favorite is #5 (bottom left).
@joe - thanks dude! these were fun and I learned a bunch doing them. I gotta transition to stuff from my imagination at some point but right now these are good for building up my technical skill at least - - - my life has been kind of a whirlwind but I'm not going to make more excuses, so here's a couple warm ups I did yesterday since it's been a while. I still wanna do the soft brush value stuff soon, just need a place to live first! aha
did one more in the same 'style', this one of a friend. only had half an image here, so I had to bs the right side of her face
included the line art only because the coloring was kind of rushed and experimental, normally id do a full painting like some of my previous stuff but i was cramming it into a small time and i'm way out of practice.
couple more I did recently. seeing as my older stuff keeps vanishing (thanks dropbox.. oops!) I've decided to just upload things to polycount directly from now on, yay!
got tired of not really knowing how to draw stuff from my imagination so I decided to start building my visual library, starting with animals. so I picked up https://www.amazon.com/Art-Animal-Drawing-Construction-Instruction/dp/0486274268/ and decided to go through it and draw all the things. my aim is to do one page a day, here's my progress for the first week or so.
I'm hoping to pick up some tracing paper this weekend and place that over these drawings and do primitive shape breakdowns over my sketches to try to help retain the information for future use, and learn more about how these animals are constructed, in the hopes that I can use that to make more original things later on.
also I just want to take a moment to say 'noooooooooooo' at dropbox for utterly destroying this threads past images. from now on everything will be uploaded to polycount directly to hopefully avoid losing more pictures.
been busy lately with life stuff and I have more animal studies coming soon, but in the meantime I went through my thread and updated all the broken or missing images that I could, so hopefully it makes a bit more sense going through my sketchbook now!
I'm excited to move on from horses now aha, there's a few 'types' of horses I gotta draw first to get an idea of how they vary, but then I think either cats or dogs are next, hooray!

full opacity sketch of someone online:
then did another full opacity sketch, this time with color:
and then there's a couple color studies I did recently. There was this one, first:
and I wasn't really happy with that, so I decided to do 8 more. they were made in order from top left to bottom right
I think next I'm going to try something more soft-brush focused in b&w, then start doing anatomy studies seriously.
thank you for looking!
