hey guys. I'm not sure why I haven't updated this, because I have been doing stuff. maybe to spite vig. just kidding
here's a couple things.
colored my friend's eye
quick drawing of a dwarf for the hell of it
another fantasy type elf paladin thing that I never finished - practicing linework:
apparently never finished or posted this so what the hell:
my first idea for comiccon challenge, Blink in the 50s, that I didn't go with:
the blink i DID go with, but have yet to model:
I think that's all for now. I'm coloring my friend's drawing right now for practice, and I wanted to post it, but I think i've put enough for now, plus it's not done.
Thanks for looking guys! I hope this makes up for my absence.
ok I'm calling it done. time to move on to more stuff.
*I DIDN'T DO THE LINE FOR THIS, ONLY THE COLORING*
the drawing itself was done by a friend of mine, Todd Pickens, who is a fantastic artist.
I did all the coloring and stuff, so please if you're going to give me any 'good job, dude!'s' please let it be for the coloring, haha!
I thought it was bad ass, so I wanted to color it. It's from a project a couple years ago that changed significantly.
here's some.. steps.. I guess. it's basically flat color and then some shaded:
time to start modeling my freakin' comic con entry haha.
thanks again for looking guys, I appreciate it. Here's to many more (and more improvement, hopefully!)
great improvements so far bounch, it seems like you're getting more and more confident with every post.
if i had to say something it would be try loosening up your characters, they seem really stiff and a simple s-curve in their posing could help bring out more character. keep it up pal!
here's the line drawing then colored version of this month's thunderdome here at work - it was to draw one of the ridiculous D&D creatures. I chose the AxeBeak!
I'm pretty happy with the way the body turned out, but I couldn't for the life of me pick a color I was happy with for the beak or skin, so I'm not too fond of those.
either way, it was a good exercise. I think I'm going to get back to more 3d soon. promised my mom I'd do a portrait of her though.. so I gotta do that sometime soon hehe.
alright. I figured I should update before it gets too long.
last weekend was the first time I've ever attempted any 'art' art. like, fine art, or art for the sake of being whatever, instead of a study or thing for work, so they're at the bottom here. First is life drawings, then a quick env study, then a portrait of my mom, then that stuff!
the last two, or 'art-y-er' ones were flashes/visions i had as I was getting up a few days before. one happened tuesday, the other wednesday. since I was having trouble thinking of stuff to do for the show I was looking for inspiration anywhere I can get it!
most of these aren't sized down, sorry! :P
if anyone has any advice on doing actual pieces/scenes that would be cool, I'd like to do more but I never really have any ideas or inspiration for them.
Duuude, I'm seeing massive improvement here! Really nice forms. The one of your mom looks really solid. I always hear that it's not a good idea to draw friends and relatives because they will notice the flaws and take it personally, hopefully that isn't the case for you .
friend asked me to draw him again. started trying to do a caricature then said fuck it.. I gotta try those later. I wanna be able to capture someone with minimal strokes, but damn it's hard, so I did a half hour portrait when I should have been sleeping.
artrage is cool does look quite alot like real paint, it looks odd probably try flippin the picture horizontally to see some wierd skewedness to it/
haha yeah it was pretty fun, and I'm aware how odd this came out haha, she's elongated and has quite a few proportions off, but it was fun to use the program nonetheless.
alright, I'm calling this done because I want to work on something else now. ZBrush must have crashed on me over 8x as I learned my computers limits the hard way haha. Tried some polypainting too but was too impatient to really go at it seriously.
That one turned out really well, although I think a touch of blue in the shadows and red in the cheeks might give her skin a bit more life
haha thanks man, I agree!
On my other monitor it actually was a little more rosy, and the BG is actually a light blue.. it looks white on my other monitor and this one . guess i need to do more color post after doing something on that monitor. I should have pushed it more anyway, thanks for the tip!
haven't had a chance to really do much since the last time I posted, I skipped out on a concert tonight so I could get some art done!
this was about 80 minutes in ArtRage.
marl - yeah they do. for some reason I've just been really drawn to them lately. they're a lot of fun and it's cool trying to capture a likeness
joe - thanks dude! it's fun and reinforces the basics of forms, really helps out later on. wish I had known about the planar brush eariler though XD
man_o_mule - I appreciate it. now I feel bad that I haven't kept it up in a while! haha! I have good excuses though..
Been super busy lately with work. In fact, the game I've been working on was recently announced - DJ Hero 3D. Guitar Hero 6 Wii comes out soon too! I did a couple characters on that as well.
In my spare time outside of work I've been doing a lot of character stuff and sculpting, which I'll be sharing soon, mainly trying to get better haha. In fact, I'm taking a class hosted by Jon Rush/Ancient Pig called Modern Game Character Creation - I've learned a lot so far and definitely recommend giving it a go when another session is open.
Anyway, enough text, time for some pictures. These are from life drawing sessions over the past few months. Sorry about the quality - phone isn't as great as a scanner, plus I kinda hastily pasted these together
"haven't touched the body outside of the face since the second subD, hair is placeholder, gloves still incoming.
I have a hard time getting the face to look 'sexy', no matter how many different reference photos and angles of Gemma I used (my entire second monitor was covered - it was awesome.) I'll give it a little more time later as well as prepare the body to look like it's covered in spandex, not to mention improve her bum.
and this is what I look like staring at a computer screen far into the night:
about 4 hours, on and off.
gonna do one more self portrait before I chop this bitch off.. the next one will be a little more monochrome. going to try an Analogous colour scheme methinks, will try to learn from one of the masters. Might start it as a value study. We'll see how that goes, hah!
Really dig that sculpt you posted on post 84. Love the lines.
post 95: the thing I miss the most is the shadow of your huge beard. It would have looked much more believable.
But you made up in your last post that just looks awesome
Keep them comming

Thanks for looking!

haha yeah it was pretty fun, and I'm aware how odd this came out haha, she's elongated and has quite a few proportions off, but it was fun to use the program nonetheless.
This is based off a concept by Dave Phillips
thanks for the support!

haven't had much personal art time lately, but here's some. trying to learn how to sculpt better:
great studies I like the pastel colors. and the shapes are spot on.
Inspiring stuff going on, keep it up man.

Here's a self portrait I did in tribute, along with snapshots along the way:
thanks for stopping by!
Whats your setup for these? Big mirror or something for that last one?

Oh wow, I sort of indirectly know that guy. He used to be art director at Garage Games or something, but I interned shortly after his time there.
Anyway, cool studies and sketches, keep on slaying.
