Post-unearthly stress caused me to start a new character :P Thought I'd might aswell jump on the next challenge. The basic idea is an old wanderer that carries everything he needs, plus alot of stuff that he probably doesn't need
I made a really basic sculpt to use as a base for the headprops, after I'm done with them I'm gonna make a proper sculpt for the face. Took alot of inspiration from old pilot equipment, like the goggles, and the mic, etc
I like the glasses and leather parts with their details,- the face is odd but you mentioned that already yourself. Nice direction so far, any plans for a complete character (body, legs, cloths,..) ?
hehe, yep, mad max/Rage is a big inspiration for me right now, I always like to play with desert-themed colors, lots of sand, etc. Been doing some dark sci-fi lately, so I wanted to make a character unlike any of the others I've made. Also, he got a moustasche! Never done that before either, haha
The plan is to make him a full character, yes. I'm still concepting the body though, but it will be mostly leather, pouches, small bags, and various items dangling about. Took alot of inspiration from this guy aswell.
Got some nice shapes going on there Snefer! Side view is much more intersting at the moment, compared to the front. You should fix his mustache though, looks a litte iffy.
Nice. I like the details on the head and equipment. Since he is a desert wanderer living in world similar to that of Mad Max, if you haven't already I recommend really emphasizing wear and tear, like torn areas in the clothing, dented metal, maybe a small wound or two, etc.
i likes it so far! a great amount of detail in this stage and kudos for the toothbrush and im assuming those onion shaped thingies are the things you put in your nose to get snot out.
what are you planning on doing with the really large hand? a big ol robot arm or maybe some kind of heavy leather'd vaseline filled glove?
Any ideas for the pants yet? I can picture him in a pair of jodhpurs for some reason...like a general or some guy on safari. I think it's the stache.
Keep up the good work, you are obviously on the right track
Stubbs- Thanks Yeah, there will be plenty of wear and tear, dontcha worry about that ^^
d00kie - The really large hand will be a big ol robot arm, kind of. ^^ But with leather parts and...thingys ^^ As for the pants, I'm still concepting that, got some ideas, but I might go with some old british army-pants or something ^^
I am basing this off a series of concepts I've made. Got like five pages of doodles as a base for the different pieces of equipment etc. Will scan them and post them aswell
I'm really curious to see what you do with the glove-hand thing. and i love the helmet, long time, man. You haven't shown any renders specifically for the back vent thing, and i'm curious. Please?
Cheers guys. I really hope I'll pull it off with the lowpoly and the textures.
sub_roland: Yeah, I know what you mean, it kind of busy atm, but I hope I will be able to clear that up in the texture, with the different materials etc. I think the problem right now is that there is no difference between materials, spec, highlights etc, so everything kind of comes out as a big mess with alot of shapes. I almost always regret pushing the highpoly too little, so this time I tried to go crazy with the accesories, to break up the silouette as much as I could. I hope it'll come through in the end ^^
Hmm, I don't think you should call this sculpt final - you've put a lot of effort and detail into the hard surface modelling, please don't rush the sculpted parts!
Currently I think they don't match up to the quality and sharpness of the hard-surface stuff.
Definitely get more reference images for the cloth folds, try and make them sharper and more with more volume - right now they look very blobby and not really like cloth that is folding.
Also the large cloth bag looks very "wobbly", I think you could do more to make it look like it has sharp, solid objects in it, and accentuate the folds along the stress lines where it will be pulled up by the straps. Currently there's no real "direction" to the folds on the bag, and I think those would really help.
Keep it up though, he's turning out well - don't rush it!
This guy is looking amazing Snefer! I am really digging the hat shape and the sphere thing on his left shoulder. Idk what it is exactly but if u had a hose coming off the little spouts it could be used like a camel pack which would make sense since he travels the desert and probably carries a good amount of water. And I agree with MoP about sharpening your folds and creases, adding some more prominent stitching detail around the top flap of the bag might help it as well. The edge of the sleeve holes on the vest could use some kind of detail also. Keep up the good work man .
this has been one of my favorite works in a while the amount of detail your packing on this is really amazing to be honest. I cant wait to see this transferred to low poly!
Hey Snefer its looking good but I think you could still push the folds and things further. I did a little paint over of the bag to show one way of how to add more weight to it. Hope it helps. Keep up the great work .
