i think you have a bit much oranges lying around.. is this place would be used then people would pick them up/pluck them right? and if they lie around for too long they start to go bad, especially in the sun..
I think... (this is just my opinion) but the very harsh green is kinda taking away from this piece man, it kinda "dumbs" it down a bit, as everything else looks so nice. This could be the Gears of Grey talking... but I think you need to desaturate that green a bit.
Maybe... maybe not... I can't decide if it actually looks better, I just feel as though its popping out a bit too much, but maybe that's what was intended.
Anyways, awesome stuff man, I'm loving those little cracks and details, really gives it character.
I think the green is a great choice. I love the material on the floor tiles. Are you doing anything special to get that wet/shiny tile look? Did you sculpt those too?
I'm also curious in our planning/creating stage how you planned that floor texture to line up with the pillars.
I also love the tile pattern in the water. For a second I thought your texture wasn't lining up then I looked and realized it was on purpose.
I'm not the greatest @ UE3, of all the projects we get at work this engine was one of our teams I never worked with. So, I'm curious if you're able to adjust the FOV? The distortion is extremely evident with the pictures with pillars in it.
As well, and it'll be odd to see me say it I am sure, but the DOF throws the realistic approach of this piece off. Particularly this piece here.
Do you have reference images to show? The sense of scale is screwing with my brain - I look at the scene as a whole and think people are one size then I see these white benches and realizes they're meant to be larger, but because my original thought was one size the benches seem rather huge.
Besides those, fantastic work Shep. The beauty of this piece, which I hope a lot of aspiring artists take from it and its something you apply to every new piece you do here, is that its an environment that generally has no focus or 'prime' area as the whole thing is grand and echoing (save the tree & oranges) gets its focus from the strong lighting. That's where the eyes go and it really gets you to look around an environment that, perhaps generally, would be overlooked quickly.
I love everything in your scene. The lighting is busy, it really confuses me at times. I'm not sure what I think of your caustics, they aren't convincing me. I think your water and the brown bricks could use work.
KP- got to agee thee, i have screen post effects with a gamma correction, at first i liked it cos i could seeinto the dark areas better but loking at it agin it washes out alot of the contrast that helps the lighting make more sense as t is a busy peice. balancing HDR is a pain and adding too much contrast also means making compression artefacts worse.
DOF is gone, then back again then gone then back again, cant make my mind up on that
Adam- those are not benches they are massage tables- so they are the correct scale but maybe if I hve time i will add a few clues to what they are, butim rapidly running out of time with this one, as i have a big move coming up.
lighting refs- not really off any particular but i can point you in the right way
The scale of some of your details(floor tile bits) and the DOF make this look like a teeny tiny scale model, other than that, the lighting is really nice.
EQ- yeah the DOF is deffinatly going, i think thats a touch of effect whoring on my part, it would b better off without. about the scale, i was pretty carefull to get the scale of things right, its actually quite a small scene but i keep taking shots low down cos i really like showing off the detail in the ceiling, i will try to keep that in mind when i make the final shots and vids, and go for a head height flythrough, hopefully this will convey the scale better. otherwise its a little late to be re-tiling ive run out of grout.
Ah, well right now the only real sense of human scale are those tables, which I thought are benches, so you should definitely get some more human objects in there (towels, sandals, lotion bottles, etc).
ran out of time on this one shame as it needed a little tidying and some more props, oh well
got some 720p frapping done and edited a quick video (haha forgive me its made on me mums laptop with windows movie maker, couldnt quite cope with editing uncompressed HD)
anwya heres a pretty low quality version, need to find a better host or figure out how to use this one propperly.
Wow, that looked stunning. Nice one on finishing it, the end result is amazing Wonder what kind of spec'd PC i'd need to play a game with that sort of gfx lol.
I always download HD vimeo flvs using Flashgot + Free Download Manager, then watch them in flvplayer or mpc; it renders the video at full size. Though I don't know if you're talking about compression during upload or something..
Duuuude incredible work, the high quality version was nice for me, looks good but still able to stream it I have to say I was initially like "... bath house? Who cares?" Then I got bitch-slapped by your work :P Really a great job!

the step does slope towards the middle but not enough for a ripe and slightly squashy orange to roll that far, will move ;-)

Fantastic stuff man.
edit: long shot lol, but any chance you'd show some flats? I'd love to get an idea of the workflow involved in this piece
Super awesome.
twist my arm
playin with engine post-effects
SHEPEIRO - aaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwsooooooomeeeeeeee great.. lovely.. only the dof-setting is a little bit .. "strong" *cough*
I mean, god that looks good. Reminds me of barcelona Guel Park.
Amazingly inspiring stuff Shep, thanks for the peek.

Do you have lighting references you could share?
Keep the good work SHEPEIRO, thats an awesome piece for your folio!
