Here's a project I'm starting up. Thought I would share. Motivation is welcome! Since this is one of the bigger personal Projects I've taken on in a while.
Basically my take on the age old Moby Dick, Ahab dynamic.
I might do one more drawing do illustrate how this guy can take down such a huge beast, then on to the model.

hahaha - I think its great man. Particularily your sketch of Jonas attached to the whale.
Though the harpoon doesn't really look like it's in his hand in the front sketch
The whale is like Hartigan and Kratos rolled into one.
like neo said, it doesnt really look like he is holding it, im also missing the last part of the harpoon sticking out?( compared to the other drawing )

The details on Jonas's hook and the bumpy skin on the Whale are my favorite parts. The whale looks so gangsta, I can see the ruthless Kratosness resemblance.
Btw, did the Whale chomp his poor legs?

Your character design is awesome as usual. Maybe some piercings for Jonas would be a nice detail.

diggin it...i agree with nelis, it has a bit of a windwaker feel. Kinda OCD but his left forarm, the one with the hook, is muscular...why? That part of the arm's muscles is for wrist and finger movement...which he is lacking. I get the whole character flow. just sayin. just something to chew on.

It's probably like that because it would look silly if he had a skinny little arm with a hook. It's okay to disregard physiology for the sake of style in this case.
What kind of specs will you be building these models to (ie. poly/texture budget, just diffuse map?)?

sperm whales are badass. they're the largest toothed animal alive and have a 6 foot dork.
I suggest the flower on the penguin should be some kind of mutant growth that happens to look like a flower. It could have a small personality, eat bugs or something and be a side to the side kick.
in the concept i believe the head and eyes are a bit bigger, making it even cuter. (also, the feet where bigger)

concepts cool - it think the model looses some of the flow,
i.e the 2nd pair of flips in the concept flow from the body/nipps -
rather than being seperate segmented appendages... meh
still good - maybe have a little more muscle build under and around the flips..
I love little contests like this. It's a welcome break from the high intensity comps like the Dominance Wars, kind of wanted my entry to reflect that, sort of the antithesis of the Dom War actually.
Next up TEVORO THE INSANE WHALE ABOMINATION!!!
for the record, I will be doing a normal mapped delux version of little Poki here, so that high poly wasn't for nothing
