im in spain , and for some reason i cant see any image or link from Maus...tried firefox , internet explorer and the wii. None works entering that site.
i visited it right before i made that post linking to it, however surely enough it looks like he took it offline.
edit:, now its back online... odd. but like others have said, avoid going there is you can, unless you're not scarred by fury porn and just want to checkout his works.
The model is actually quite nicely proportioned,if I ignore the subject matter.
Creases at the neck area and collarbone might be a little too defined,I would have relied on texture there.
Something about gives it me an Everquest 2 vibe and that is NOT a good thing.Breasts are iffy-maybe a little perkier/uniboob look would be better?
although if you can't see any of his images i see how that could have beena problem
and to op, good sculptures and good drawings (ignoring their content), you have skill in the traditional art realm, but if you want to geta job in the industry you might want to start working on human stuff. furry porn on a portfolio will not fly with most (if not all) recruitment guys.
the concept is cool. Not too keen on the model though, doesnt seem to capture the same quality the drawing has. The model seems to come off more "perky" (for lack of a better word) and ditzy than as solid a feel the concept has.
Animal people aside, the concept has character, where the model feels it only has purpose - being nudity, as opposed to being a fighter/warrior like the concept represents.
if you plan on dressing it up, sweet. post those first - and show this as your base mesh.
What do you want to know about painting textures too btw? this thread has completely derailed into opressing opinions of taste on someone's personal work... may as well try to get it on track.
Presentation is everything. I have no problems at all with 'furry' (or even furry porn for that matter) but as has been said before, your presentation belies your intention with this model-- we have no problem with nudity here (provided the proper tags are used) but the first image you posted does not read like a tasteful nude, rather as others have said, it reads like porn.
I mentioned in another thread that most people don't realize that with art it is important to convey ideas with your art, downplay features that you don't want the viewer to concentrate on and try to pop out those you do. That particular thread was about an overexposed sign in a dirty environment, but the same applies here. Distribution of detail is another important part of that, not only is it more efficient to give less detail to lesser areas of interest, but it affords them less attention too, allowing the viewer's eye to gloss over them and focus on the real foci of your art. To be clear: The fact that something is one way in real life is in face not a reason to make it so in your art.
Again, it's not censorship or fear of the ESRB (Though if such things are found to be on a game disc they will force a re-evalutaion of the game's rating even if it's not normally visible, as happened with TES: Oblivion)-- rather when displaying the model like this or if a death pose allowed the player a glimpse at these details, it distracts from the focus and mood the rest of the experience is attempting to provide.
So buck up and accept the criticism, most of the people here really just want to help.
- Asthane (Who doesn't actually have the art degrees his tone implies )
[edit] Summary: Everyone has given their honest opinion of what they see; if what they see isn't what you wanted them to see, then perhaps some tweaking is in order since you can't possibly talk to everyone who sees your art to make sure they understand what you were going for-- rather you can, but you have to do it with the art itself.[/edit]

I do feel that the model has merit and although everyone might not like that kind of style , it will probably look good when fully textured.
Haha. Dead babies and bdsm-themed art is fine, but this isn't? I mean, it's great to poke fun at, sure, but you lot seem genuinely shocked.
I'll just second Moose's post, and i hope to see this completed in the fashion of the concept.
Have you ever considered doing the texture with traditional materials, by printing out the uv's and scanning the result back in?
Honestly, if you are looking for a job I would suggest removing about 95% of the stuff youhave on your site, anime and furries will get your stuff thrown in the trash. You have some skills but you will need to show alot more then animals with people bodies on your resume and reels.

I used to draw anime style and I never really cared about people telling me how much of a tool I was for drawing that way. The reason I stopped was cause someone brought up the valid point that no one is gonna wanna hire me to draw animes.

If you can write sentences and paragraphs, you shouldn't be on the internet!
Though actually, I don't believe anyone 'said his art was shit', most such comments were limited to the style and even said the concept was good, and that he should work harder to close the gap between concept and model. Yes, some people were a bit harsh, but that's life and I don't think anything was said (individually) that's worth such a scathing response
Though one wonders if there's a point to any of this, since there've been no replies
thanks for that cheap, if you hadn't of mentioned his portfolio I would never have got the chance to see his naked furry drawings. now if you could tell me how to un-see things thatd be swell.
EQ: If I show someone something that i've done at work and they give me the type of comments I see here some days... i'll likely defenestrate them.
If i'm doing furry art at work, I need to re-evaluate where i'm spending my time.
If this guy wants to get into the game industry, sure he needs to re-evaluate the types of characters he chooses to put in his portfolio... No one will hire someone with his portfolio, dispite the fact that he is obviously a capable artist. (mainly because the people who make up the industry are the same type of people who operate and participate in these forums.)
I may not have seen the same portfolio... but i didn't see much in there that was so horribly pornographic that it made me wish i could un-see it.
If you want a job in the game industry your portfolio should reflect more generic stereotypical video game characters with shoulder pads and grenade launchers, you're right.
I also believe if someone wants to learn how to model they should learn how to model stuff they enjoy to do... if he likes furry porn, that's cool with me... the guy should model furry porn and should get critiques on this model just like anyone else... with the expectation that if he wants to get a job he's going to have to do something that's not a nude foxy lady...
Put shoulder pads and a grenade launcher on her, and call it a day.
You're not saving anyone by being a dick, or teaching them a lesson... you're telling them they shouldn't expect any constructive critisism from people on forums.
I know this doesn't affect anyone here one way or the other, but it's something to keep in mind. Just as you should expect the quality of work that people post for you to look at to increase ... you should also expect the quality of your comments and critisism to increase.
posting 2000 times on a forum means nothing if 1500 of those have no substance...
p.s. his model is better than most of the models you guys say, "good start, keep up the good work" to... and again, this doesn't go for those who actually gave constructive critisisms... and if you made fun while giving constructive crits... you just waisted your time. but sure, you can have a !
I think the main issue most people have with it is that furry porn is not something that belongs on these forums, whether it's for a game or not. Is he a capable artist? Damn right he is, but that doesn't mean shit when nobody aside from the artist that created it likes the subject.
I could model a penis that looks like it belongs on Michelangelo's David, and still, nobody would care. I think the people that answered truthfully, without any joking, or teasing, tried to get that point across.
When he comes back with some more appropriate subject matter, we'll all be more than glad to give praise and criticism. Until then, he can find a video game artist forum for furries and post whatever he pleases there.
nfrrtycmplx: despite what you may think this website is not a happy little democracy where we must respect everyone's rights, there are things you can do that will get you flamed and ridiculed, people share thier honest opinions. Thats what seperates polycount from cg**** whatever sites that sugar coat every sentence as if they were talking to small children, and thats what makes it great.
nfrrtycmplx the industry has no time or place for furry pron, defend him all you like but at the end of the day, there are people posting here expressing their real concerns for this guy and his career.
If you take a look at his site you can see that he is pushing towards being a professional games artist, however the furry pron is abundant. Animal / human hybrid artwork can sometimes looks fucking awesome, unfortunately his stuff is just Hentai Manga.
Sure there's a lot of zombies, guns, musclemen cyborgs and babes here, but that's what guys like to see in games. To make furry pron models is somewhat bizarre and useless for snagging a job in the games industry.
so really you want polycount to become know for the place that rips apart noobs?
I can think of numerous occasions when some of the very posters here who were taking the piss have posted utter crap and no one was really harsh on them .
There is a difference between giving tough , constructive advice and just being a twat.
Just to make thing fair , perhaps we just treat everyone like crap.
This is fucking bullshit. Have fun at the expense of this guy all you want if that's what polycount is about now, but don't try to justify it by passing that as constructive critisism.
I agree having this sort of work is a bad idea if you're looking to get hired, but constructive would have been: "Hey man, the model technically looks good but naked furries are a terrible subject to have in your portfolio when you're looking to get a job in the industry", if that even is what he's after.
You don't need 3 out of 4 pages of bashing the shit out of him to get that point across properly, but at least you've had your fun at the expense of someone who came here and very politely asked for help and critisism in the correct forum. Luckily for him we're so helpful here at polycount.

NO!
only inverted vaginas for you!
tl;dr, jesus christ learn to write in sentences and paragraphs.

Though one wonders if there's a point to any of this, since there've been no replies
hahahaha, I want vaginas WOOT
Its not a bad model, especialy for a first character model though I doubt the guy will ever come back and read this.
Notice how the thread became completely unproductive the minute someone said "hey ease up on the insults".
Oh well, fun read at least.
I can think of numerous occasions when some of the very posters here who were taking the piss have posted utter crap and no one was really harsh on them .
There is a difference between giving tough , constructive advice and just being a twat.
Just to make thing fair , perhaps we just treat everyone like crap.
Luckily for him we're so helpful here at polycount.
if this guy/girl had been posting shit on this board blowing up your threads with cock sucking praises and patting you on the back for every shit model you've ever done... you would be stroking his ego and telling him how great he is as well as going to his aid when someone commented on how obviously furry his model is... just so that when you make a post he won't thrash you...

so not true. I've seen several "friends" on PC get into arguments over harsh crits and the such.
[ QUOTE ]
what happened to this thread being a good place to go to get feedback on your models? what happened to polycount being a resource for new artists trying to get a couple of pointers? Don't muffle an artists creative direction just because you're not in-line with that particular genre or style.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think he's received excellent feedback! Essentially, don't do this type of stuff. It's not what the industry is looking for, it's not on the shelves, and it's disturbing. It's been said several times on the thread that he has skill, but he's implementing said skill in a way that's not indicative of a person trying to break into the industry.
[ QUOTE ]
... if you have feedback that's useful... give it... don't tell someone that their art is shit because you just don't like it...
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, but that's the risk any one of us takes by puting any of our work out there.
[ QUOTE ]
If your opinion isn't constructive... no one wants to hear it... and if you're buddy sends you the link to this post and wants you to read his clever comment don't feel like it's your goal to one-up him... because none of you bastards are very creative/clever...
[/ QUOTE ]
I may have overlooked it, but where in this thread have you attempted to give a constructive feedback?
In conclusion...there's no crying in Polycount.
RUZ:

so really you want polycount to become know for the place that rips apart noobs?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't even think it's the fact that this guy is a "noob". He's definitely off to a better start than most people who post their human boxes at first.
On a side note, this thread should probably be locked/deleted/moved to general at some point. It's gotten a 'tad' off subject, and I really don't see it coming back on track anytime soon.
