damn! man, you're blowing me away. when you originally posted, I was like, cool concept, but no way is he gonna malke it to the finish line. but your speed is crazy! you're flying and the stuff is top-notch! Love the hair on this chick, and the fae is gorgeous! great work man, keep it up!
Another ego rub here Damn fine work, I love the details you've managed to cram into this and that hair is just all kinds of amazing. Can't wait to see this all done and rendered.
Sa74n : you are right ... i've managed to mess up the scenes ... i modified the geo around the lips ... the low poly did not quite match the high but for the latest scenes i see now the geo is the wrong one ...i'll update that ... thanks for the notice
another update with upper body will come soon ...
thanks gwad and derricksong ...
I had to work for another project this week so i was a little bit slow ...here is an update with the upper body ... only the diffuse texture ... the spec is not ready ...

A polycounter asked me on PM if i can make a quick tutorial about how i did the hair ... i am short on time like all of you but if there are many of you interested in this i might free a few hours for this after the competition is over ...
Oh god I'm loving this one. Are you going to leave her skin grey? I think it fits her quite well. I'd maybe give the eyes a bit more saturated colours but that's about it. Your entry is awesome.
This is the first time I see this and I am overwhelmed - my favorite in the competition so far! The soft feel, the colours, the hair, the concept - amazing!
The dog's legs look a bit funny though, a bit like pig legs. But posed it will probably work fine.
Keep it up! And thanks for restoring my wobbly faith in normal mapping.
Thank you for your feedback guys ... much appreciated ... i had some personal problems in the late that slowed me down this week... i might not finish this char to the level i wanted initially (i wanted to learn a little about skinning too so that i can pose the char with more ease and quickly ... my knowledge of rigging is now zero ) ... but i am trying to do as much as i can in the little time that has remained ...ill finish the textures and post another update ...and then i will see about the pose ...
Untill yesterday i've been home at my parents and had no internet connection and i thought that the deadline will be this night because of the messed up conunter in the personal entry page ...
last time i wrote half an hour at the message and then the system crashed and lost everything ...damn it was a long reply ... i will try the short version now
animatr : if you like it so much i will give you the model after the comp is over to play with it ...
[DLS]Merskum : you are right about the "pig legs" .. the muscles for the front legs are messed up and do not look realistic ;wanted to modify but have no time anymore ... i hope posed it will look fine too
JKMakowka : dunno what to say about the desaturated colors ... the idea was from the start to use cold dark greys or smthing ;i kept all my selections and color layers in the psd because i wanted to make more color schemes but there is no time now till the competition is over(the main psd file for the body has like 200 layers with all the detail stacked on top of each other ... so it will be easy to modify)... i will try other color pallete after the contest nevertheless... though i have to calibrate my monitor ...it's all messed up ... in the dark grays i have green cast and in the white ones blue cast ... i tried using the gains in the monitor controls but didn't manage to do a better job ... need a spider ...
I will try make a little tutorial for the hair after the competition ...
And now a little update with the textures for varga almost ready ... they need e few touches here and there ...
Wow it turned out great paul! If you're willing to hand it over to animatr, why not have it as a download to go with that hair tutorial as well? Personally I'm also itching to have a first hand look at all the good stuff happening in there.
Well what I ment was: It looks like it was right out of those partially hand colored black&white movies that where popular before real color movies were invented
hey Paul,
that'd be awesome. she would be a blast to animate! (of course I'd give credit where credit was due and all that yeah, that'd be cool. pm me or something if you're cool with it.!
Wow.... what an entry, loads of stuff going on but it really works. Glad someone went for a less colourful character... it really gives a badass cold vibe to her. Awesome!
Oh wow...I, for one, love the muted tones with the touches of red. This is a kick ass model! The only crit I have for you is to take another look at your final pose. She seems a bit off balance from the head on view, and the way she is drawing her bow is off. I realize she has a compound bow, but perhaps her right shoulder should be thrust back a bit more, her back arching a bit to give a more dynamic pose, as well as more of a sense of the force of the arrow that is about to be released. On a final note, that hair is insanely good! Great job
This first pose proves that even the trully evil girl can be so harmonious and feminine.. even without a boob!
Why didn't you put the pet laying down around her in this pose?
By the way thats an fantastic work!
thanks again for kind words ...
riggin/skinning is not my speciality ... this is the first time i rigged a character or build a skeleton ...i did use a plugin for rigging ... but damn ... it is hard work for the beginner ... after a basic pose i ended up modeling the pose in the end for tweaking ... initially i wanted to learn some rigging before i start on this char but ... time was my enemy:)...i am not happy especially with the rig for the pet ...
here are the files submitted for the competition :
I have to agree that the model is excellent, maybe the best in the competition... But despite it being too late, I have to criticize the posing
When she's holding out the bow, it isn't very aligned with her arm, and her arm has a bit of a bend to it, making it look either extremely uncomfortable, or the bow just having a 10 lb draw. It should probably be a bit higher up, with the arrow closer to the eye, and the arm holding the bow fully extended and locked.
In the winning pose, she looks like a very passive character, holding her arm in that way, and her legs awkwardly close to each other. I'm not saying its not a natural looking pose, but for the type of character I see her as, it's just seems completely contrary.

edit: on second look the mouth doesnt look as good from the side as it does from the front. maybe rearrange the polygons a bit?

Amazing work, mate. This is going to be one hell of a tough comp to judge, but you're sure to be a contender.

I'll be tuning in for that hair tutorial too! Frackin sick hair!
