but does polyboost draw on top of the origianl model? like does it follow the model's normals and such?
I think I tried the polyboost demo a long time ago and didn't like it. Maybe it has changed though.
Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but seems like it does the same basic idea as Topogun, for just $116 US.
PolyDraw
An array of tools for quickly editing meshes or scetching out
a mesh , either on the main grid, projected onto the surface
of another object or on the selected object itself.
Looks pretty cool to me, gonna have to give it a spin.
If my understanding of Topogun is correct, it doesn't just allow you to draw topology over another mesh, it will also transfer across the high frequency detail. Like one of the new features in the elusive zbrush 2.5
that's what it kind of read like. The practical.mov is a sweet movie to watch. I'm really impressed. Couldnt have come at a better time either with the dom war and all

i got in the top gun beta, and so far heres my experience, i click the run icon i get a popup saying that version is expired, i click ok, it says please renew license, i click ok, for a breif secon i see a pop up for me to input information in, then it goes away and i get the, "this program has encountered an error and had to shutdown" popup
yes but snap to face and surface modifier isn't as fast as polyboost and it has this ugly snap to face gizmo, that sucks, also you can't snap to face with an offset
you could actualy do this in note pad, but it would take longer,, i think the purpose of the difrent aps are to make it easier. i saw like a ton of functions in the practical video that the line tool snap to face could not do.
so far i got topogun running, but when i import my obj (not even 100k faces) it freezes near the end of the progress bar and never loads,
Looks pretty cool. Can anyone do a compare/contrast with Silo's topo brush? Looks like its main selling point is the loft tool. I can see that really speeding up the workflow.
It sounds and looks really interesting, and I would love to get my hands on the beta to play around a bit, although I bought a Silo license the other day just for retopology purposes.
As for Polyboost, that does require 3ds, and some of us just don't swing that way
topogun for the win!!! its very good at what it does, still in beta, but i would like to see it have some more features. it literally saves hours of work.
yeah, Renaud, it very slow, because it's 3dmax.
i am importing mesh to max by parts to parts, then optimising it and building up lowres over it...
...it works...=)
i like your attitude askhat,, lets take it a step further,, why have more than one type of car? i mean one car choice is all anyone needs if the car runs ok. hmm one type of food. thats all we need no choice at all.
the more aps like this the better, it forces competition and better products,
topogun is real nice so far even if is somewhat buggy
I tried making some basic meshes and it isn't really going fast
At the moment I make a row of vertexes, another row of vertexes and then select vertexes one by one and use the bridge button. Is there a faster way of doing this?
Well that's a slow and unproductive way of using TopoGun.
You should check out the videos and/or read the main TopoGun forum.
You should at least block out the main topology then subdivide the mesh, or at least you could use the make faces option.
Or use the new draw feature...
Still use it for each and every reropo job! There was an update last week too. It remains as fantastic as it always was. Can't wait to buy it actually!!
Thanks guys, I stopped using Topogun when I bought 3DCoat and also having problems getting my beta license working with the latest updates.
I really liked using Topogun as the 'recapture' tool was the best out there. 99.9% of the time I got a perfect result. Is good to hear it's still up and running.
Has the draw by spline tool (similar to Silo's Topology tool) been updated at all. Not sure which particular build I'm using as it merely says Version 1.3 beta.

its a specialized retopology mesh program
definitely something you should try out

Yes polyboost does that.

I had the exact same problem
just apply surface modifier

so far this ap seems to have a lot of problemas
its actualy pretty cool, and very easy to use if its reasonably priced, i'm pretty sure i'll pick it up.

polyboost doing that job very good, what we need more?

I don't know, I tried polyboost a few weeks ago, and it was VERY slow with a mesh around 500k. The draw polys tool was working randomly, etc.
Btw, the 1.1 video is just awesome

I been too busy to try it just yet but I cant wait, this app has great potential
