Hey, read on cgsociety that you rendered this maya, using metal ray nodes? I'm wondering if you could give a quick run down on their usage, or point me in the right direction for a tut.
The results clearly are pretty damn good, and I've been having trouble finding a rendering method that doesn't involve 3dsmax, yet produces something good quality.

With maya 8.5 you can render your tangent noramlmaps! No special workaound, just load a normalmap in your bump channel. Activate tangent space and render with mental ray!
There are still some small issues with mirrored uvs, but you can hardly see (the left boot and arm (right side of the picture) have mirrored uvs).
final image, I don't have any additional time. ( In fact I don't have time for one week)
This model was great to learn. I made a skeleton for the first time and rigged for the first time. This was the first time using Mudbox and Maya 8.5. and I learned a lot about rendering, lighting and composeting.

not perfekt but hey
