i was reading over the DW thread at cg and fred mentioned that "mechanical" arms are not allowed
I assume that is to make sure that each community delivers under a different theme, you can have mechanical armor and whatnot but you cant have robotical parts.
hmm, i dunno, looks like it's going too techy for what the brief says - the robots and cyborgs are for 3dtotal, we shouldn't use stuff that's too overly mechanical. considering that about 3/4 of your character's mass and volume are made up of mechanical parts, i dunno how well that will be accepted... maybe try to do a version with more fleshy/mutated stuff instead of bare metal and robotics.
if I remember correctly the judges last year laboured the point of fitting the brief pretty heavily, I wouldnt risk too much tech. maybe if it was a bit more exoskeleton than cyborg?
hmm reading the cgchat post, looks like we're not allowed anything robotic (joints etc I guess).. so I think you'll have to fit those blades onto some armour that her arms can fit inside (time for some smudge brush on 100%?)
edit: personally, I dont think nipples should be a problem, if theres a good design reason
i dont see it as an issue with nudity so much as practicality...
what would be the reason for the nudity? i doubt there's any female who would willingly expose a couple of large sensitive and bouncy areas to her opponets in combat situations.
I agree with Askhat, the legs are too big, it's a mistake I make all the time. Personally I'd recommend scaling the torso and head up to match the arms and legs, rather than scaling the legs down. If you scale the legs down I think her arms will be too close to the ground.
That said, cool concept dude, I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

thx
The legs are so big on purpose. I wanted to exeggerate the female anatomy. It seems that I have to make it more obivious though.
hey, I sometimes watched farscape, but didn't used it as a reference
Even with legs like that how would she be able to lift those massive swords? It would make sense if she wore an exoskeleton but then I think that goes against the rules.
did a quick paint-over to maybe give you some fresh ideas....personally If you end up going with this type of character i would sharpen up the armour and give her an evil-er head.....ie: maybe have her hair pinned down with spikes or something that go into her head.
never fear, gauss is here! sorry man, but i'm still unable to actually do any concept work that i can post... but i'll still do my best to help.
your problem right now is that you're beating to death a single image that you started up with, which has drastically narrowed your available options. as i've been characterizing it to some people--you wouldn't marry your first girlfriend, the one you had way back when you were 13--so why would you marry your first sketch? you want to keep your options open.
now this is tough since of course i can't put my hands on a wacom, and much as i want to... but think about this. i'd assume you're fairly settled on the idea of sexxy lady with mechanical assistance, and to that i'm ready to dedicate myself as well. don't listen to the others--so long as she's mechanically assisted, but not cybernetically augmented herself, you should be ok; she's still the focus, even with all the mechanical fixins.
i'm still going to advocate doing sketches and thumbnails. back to basics, man. you're wasting a lot of energy by modifying a color image in photoshop, when you should be dealing with very basic stuff in grayscale.
here's an alternate idea to pursue, but along the same path: think milla jovovich's character from the fifth element, Leeloo, and put her in a power-assist rig. i use the term "rig," to emphasize that the design would largely rest away from her body. truly "exo-skeletal" in the sense that it's far outside the body except for key points--some sort of harness on her torso and some sort of supports to the hips/pelvis area. so picture Sexy Ms. NoClothes as she is, (though hopefully less Farscape-y, as has been pointed out, teehee) but then take the mechanical rig and lift it up and away from her. like she's piloting more of a landmate, something taller than her, except it's just a skeleton, no sheathing. think of it like this: imagine she's undercover on an alien world, all covert and such, and then she gets an orbital drop on the sly. but it's a real small package, right, because if they drop something too big, it's too suspicious. so inside the drop crate is the folded up power-assist rig--
think of ripley's powerloader, but much more skeletal, more light. less between her and the air.
so the rig is funky no-nonsense kind of tech looking, high tech in its engineering but still has seen plenty of action and has more than a few field-minded modifications. again, it has to be light, and has to be able to be folded up into a fairly compact space. not that you have to design to actually do that, but i think you see how it might make for an interesting visual. you might also look up some ref of ultralight aircraft frames, kinda work out on that sort of vibe.
so she's in this really light power-assist rig, the idea being that it's easy to get to her, and suddenly she's able to do all her ninja covert acrobatic bullshit whatever, but jumping super high, running fast, and cutting up fools with her swords all the more efficiently.
ok so i'm babbling now because i've had the foolhardy notion of replying to every polycounter with an entry. but i think you get the idea... if that doesn't help you, i think more cool dudes like gavku should be able to help you out. i'd also say to slip a pm to Eric Elwell, that brother can always help out with a paintover!
best of luck, katz--you're one of the few modelers that seems to realize concepts with a real dedication to keeping the look consistent, and it's going to kill me if i'm not able to get you a concept for this dominance war but keep updating!
I nearly heard what hawken said, but I just want to make a female "cyborg" ninja assasin
thanks gavku and gauss for all the good advices.
I tried to follow them, but I think this time I will have to go the hard way and have a total mental breakdown at the end of this contest
Oh man, we germans are sick . I had basicly the same idea, hot chick with mechanical elements, naked, gorry bloody, pale skin etc pp.
I really do like the design, but to be honest, i also do not think that it fits the brief very well. About the critic that she can't use the arms, guys, we are in the future, even my grandma can lift the arm, its anti grav .
Cyber boots go a long way to balance this character out. I was thinking the metal arms seem really awkward, almost like a torture device. Maybe bind the feet together to play with that more. You could have a anti-grav thing or a cyber-tentacle. I don't know, just an idea, but I think it could be cool if you push the bondage aspect a bit more.
You seem to be too attached to the arms. They don't work the way they are. They just seem awkward. Bring the mass up to the shoulders and feed her arms down the length of the blades.
The design just doesn't hold together well at all. Right now it seems like a lot of random design trying to be held together, and that's not going to work.
you need a common theme to bring it all together. I took what Ninjas said and put some bondage into the design. Gave her a 'uni-boot' that allows her to hover.
The head just doesn't match either. Bring some of the design up to her. Her hair is too 'fancy'.
Here, see what you think, hope it will push you in a more unified direction:
I really enjoyed your entry last year. I liked how your new concept was going, so I thought I would do my own little version. It may not be your thing, but good luck, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
how about adding a mechanical attachment to the back and from it you have 2 mechanical arms with giant blades attached to it. which could sweep swiftly under her arms for some leg arm or gut stabbing or over her shoulders for a scizzor head cut effect.
edit: and when the blades are not used the arms fold in over the mechanical attatchment covered by the 2 blades like the wings of some deadly insect
@ skanker: nice interpretation, but I don't like the single boot
@GoK : the expression of the face will deffinately be extremly painfull
@gauss: That's why I like polycount. It's the best forum to improve
@Renaud Galand:how could I make a scifi sadomaso girl without having some influences from him? He's just great.
@ninjas: just awesome! I tried to use some of those great ideas. Unfortunately I think that it'S even more away from the brief than my version. I will deffinately use this concept later.
@ evil: Tried it, because I like you idea, but I couldn'T make it fit.
Some new versions...
She will have a painfull expression, but I didn'T want to waste time on painting it.
I think, I will start with the mecanical arms version.
I know it's not even 100% but unfortunately I don't have any more time. I have to start modeling toomorrow.
Those electric hand things are the shit. You have to incorporate them into your final design somehow, or a thousand orphans and kittens will die slow, terrible deaths

Maybe you should consult Fred
That's better isn't it? She only wears huge metal gloves, you can see a part of her arms leading into them
p.s. before anybody asks. yes, I used a referencepicture for the legs, anatomy just sucks
edit: personally, I dont think nipples should be a problem, if theres a good design reason

It must be suitable to show your mother
[/ QUOTE ]
So unless you watch nude pics with yer mother on a regular bases.. no nipples
Only the genital organs aren't allowed to be shown on TV.
Even in the magazine "bravo", which is made for about 12 years old teens, you can see nipples.
Nerver the less, I will ask Fred.
no resizing needed

I'm just not a conceptartist, would be nice if you could give my concept a final touch!

you have set off on the wrong foot entirely. scrap it. start again.

another version
I think I will model this...
she can turn down her knive-arms so that she can use her normal hands.

Ninjas... That's all kinds of fucking awesome!
-caseyjones
I like the idea of a weapon that runs on pain.. wonder if thats straying into 3dtotal though?
keep wrestling I say, joo can win!
well looks like you've got plenty of concept help to go around, katz!

not a fan of the blade-versions.. they are to .. steady.. a mechanical arm where they are equipt on would work better i guess
so and now show some 3d
