I love it my friend that mask is absolutely awesome (and, somehow reminds me of system shock), you better do it justice or I kick your lazy canadian butt
Awesome concept so far...if ya don't mind me asking, how do you get such nice, crisp, diagonal lines? Are you shift+clicking? If so how are you getting those sets of parallel lines so perfect? Sorry to bother ya with a technical question and not really have any advice as of yet...maybe later
Yup, mostly just shift+clicking. Some of the round shapes I use a circle with white fill and then apply a stroke layer effect thou. I can then use free transform to get the ellipse that I want, because I can never draw them by hand :P
really enjoyable stuff so far, Jared--you're looking like one of my to-watch entries for this compo if you keep this up. but i've always been a sucker for ladies in powersuits.
you've got confidence in your direction, but i'd say be careful about developing it too much at just the head/neck level. let's have some looser, full-body explorations on her(wouldn't we all like more full-body explorations on our favorite females...) so that you can keep the form language of the armor as a whole in mind before you zoom in an start nailing details. that's going to make the difference... keep us posted!
Just giving a quick update with a pretty unfinished sketch. Vincent will kick my ass if I don't update today. I was wrestling with the shape design for the body a bit. Started out by just trying to make the armour fit around her body, but that proved to be kinda impractical. Right now the arms stick out in front and control the larger arms like the mech suits in appleseed do.
fuuu .. this thing is huge.. and nice.. and aaaawweesome..
just a stupid idear.. the "human" thing is death and only the brain ist still working.. and through the explosion the brain was connectet to the armor-ai (such stuff should happen .. ).. and now the brain is moving the armor and they moves the death body.. and not the body the armor..
I thought mechanical was okay so long as the person inside was still human. That's what really interested me about this concept is that I would have to design around the human form.
Thanks man, it's still pretty mechanical, but hopefully this is toned down enough. I really want to do a sort of mech character that can fly. I havn't done the arms yet, but I'm planning on having no armour on the biceps.
I don't know if this helps but I found this update on the submission guidelines.
"Feb 5th Update: Polycount, CGSociety, CGChat: Humans or Aliens (only moderate mechanics is allowed). Basically, your character should have no more than 20% cybernetics. So two hands are fine or half an arm is fine or both feet are fine etc. Armor plated characters are allowed as long as you make it look like your character doesn't merge with the machine in any fashion."
I think I'm pretty much finished with this concept, should probably get onto modeling now. Still have to design a minigun sword combo for this guy later though
yes indeedy, please keep at it!
this has been one of the most interesting threads for me to watch develop--i'm going to have to try the way you block in overlapping grey shapes first for mechanical designs. i'm cheering for the finished model, so don't let us down! and by us, i mean me, because deep down inside i'm actually very selfish and don't care at all about other people. waahahhaah
It's been a slow week recently because I've been making the switch to Modo, I was finding my workflow in maya to be too slow. Hopefully I'll be able to move things along faster.
derricksong - Saw your thread man, looks freaking sweet. I wish I could model as fluid as you do.

The face mask is hot
Awesome concept but I fear it will be tossed out because of the "organic clause" in the brief. =/

But I see two Problems..
1. That's deffinately not stealth
2. That's deffinately to mechanical
I'm found of the design but I've to agree with katzeimsack. It looks like you're fighting for 3D total atm

push it a bit more in our direction (dead evil blod ) and i see no reason not to do it
Who cares, this is Bad Ass!! Go go go!

It only specified that your character must be organic. Weapons and equipment need not also be organic.
Unless I'm wrong, which I never am.
could work
if jack says its not allowed, its not allowed!..
[/ QUOTE ]You're getting your Jacks mixed up. The only one you need to pay heed to is the one with the red name.
Its great work Jared. I dig the industrial look you're going for.

Excellent work btw.
realy like it!
I just figured out I can project curves onto nurbs surfaces, to me that's just so cool
