That was board game pieces if I remember correctly. I was planning on doing a knight but never got a chance to work on it. I think it should be something else.Maybe something involving sculpting tools like Mud and Z?
nah it was this board. (I tried to find the original thread, but search is futile on this forum engine as we all know)
model a board-game character contest.
Not saying it's a bad idea, I love battle chess. But people had the chance to do it last time and there was only ONE entry from chess, which wasn't finished.
To be honest Marisa, env challenges don't work very well here.
I'm currently thinking along the lines of a texture challenge to compliment the last challenge. In negotiations to get a good, unseen, model. From someone we all love on the boards, so sit tight If another mod wants to run the chess challenge while I get this asset...
Another idea was to make something with no mass. Spirits and elementals.
Vehicles would be fun. But I still think the Chess one is best.
The problem with the previous one (model a boardgame character) was that it seemed obscurely limiting, while just making it "interpret a chess piece" has a huge range of possibilities, could be normal mapped, sculpted, environmental, character, whatever really.
I think it'd get a lot of entries if the specs were open enough to allow people freedom of style and design.
I did a chess rook for the board-game challenge, but never finished because the entry was quite lousy. I actually wanted to make a complete set as a personal project, but never got around to it. Too bad there are exams coming up or I'd have given it a try this time too .
Let me join the mainstream:
Chess sounds fun!
There is something for everyone. Enviroment, character, monster.. anything can be done there. It can be sci-fi, steampunk, fantasy or realistic present day interpretations.
Sounds like an interesting challenge, though I remember the fat bishop character with it's sidekick lugging around a huge ale barrel from the board game challenge.
Though a texture challenge would be awesome Hawken.
Seems fair. Lots of possibilities there too. People tend to make bad 3d copies of flat sprite characters. All megaman or sonic models for Q3 or UT have been flat and boring. Some things deserve a redesign.

Justin would you punch a unicorn with a katana?
That's a fearsome unicorn, IronHawk, but I'm ever more afraid of the Tingle cosplayer!
