Are you allowed to use existing concepts from other people as a starting point? The contest rules say everything has to be made from scratch specifically for the contest... might wanna check that out, y'know.
Yeah, it's true Sectaurs. Thanks guys. I know either of y'all could take a crack at it too, so feel free. I would hate for TGZ to get a sub-par concept just 'cause I made an attempt.
I'm working through another more tank like iteration now...
Okay, I had this wacky idea. What if this robot is a artifact from an ancient war that had stopped after he killed the last of his enemies, and he sat there for a thousand years with either A) the forest growing up around him, or the sea level rising and engulfing him, but the lameness of the CGChatters has set of his super advanced "gaydar" and he has reawakened to fight to the death. His advanced AI makes him a super techtichian, etc.
I imagine him with caked on spanish moss, mushrooms etc. or alternately coral, barnicles, starfish stuck to him. His metal turned a nice dark patina from his age.
ancient evils are always a good idea snap to that revised iteration mr. ninjas! i know you'll really make this one sing with your improved skillz, TGZ. i'll be watching this thread.
Now thats what i'm talkin about! Now you got me all in a good mood to make that bad boy. I'll start on the high poly when i get some free time sunday. Damn am i happy to make that!
i see you've been burning the midnight oil too Ninjas, a busy busy boy! you managed to pull of what you described, which can be tough. TGZ i know when you pull this off you'll have an AAA portfolio piece.
hey ninjas any chance you could give me a clue as to what the back of the top looks like? I'm having a problem figureing out the top geo rite now. I think i might skip it and do the arms untill you get some time to sketch the top sides.
Great concept Ninjas, as per usual it seems!
Not to draw attention from TGZ, great start on the modelling, looking forward to seeing this one completed!
Coming together well. I'd like to see more of the bulk from the concept here, especially in the tiny no-feet. It will help to make the character appear stronger and more dominate. Keep pushing the concept, and it should end up a solid piece.
It looks like you took all the 'chunk' out of the bot, TGZ. All the parts are there, and modelled quite well, but have been put on a diet. Consequencly, it makes it look less like a General activated once again to destroy everything, and more like a mecha from a video game.
I think if you fatten things up a bit to give it slightly more 'human' proportions, it will go a long way towards getting the personality from the concept into your model.
Ok its been awhile sense i last had some time to work one this with any real amount of time, but i now have his back story.
Unit 404 was built by the empire of CGchat as military AI controlled robot made for missions that are deemed to dangerous for manned missions. After its first mission completed it was deactivated and returned to base. Back on the base it reactivated while mechanics were pulling parts off it to be fixed. Unit 404 took this as a threat not knowing where it was and began to kill every living thing with in a 50 mile radius. It was only stopped by using a EMP weapon. After the attack the project was caned and Unit 404 was thrown on to a scrap heap to be dumped in the ocean. Unit 404 was dumped at sea where it sat for 1000 years slowly repairing its self with its internal nano bots. After reactivation it found it to be the last of its line promoting its self general status and deeming the empire of CGchat as it true enemy and returned to battle them. General 404 may be covered in barnacles and coral but it is still just as deadly as the day it was made.
I have to say though I really don't like the way you handled the feet. They seemed much more chunky, solid and sturdy in the concept, now they look like toothpicks... What Sectaurs said is right, a lot of the pleasing chunkiness has disappeared somewhere between concept and modelling - although the back new section now looks nice and big and solid and beefy, it's making the legs look puny and weak in comparison. Pump those legs up!

ok this concept needs lots of love, who ever wants to give it a go i'm fine with.
[edit] Not badass enough, 2nd try:
Is that first concept by prom/anj? (edit: duh, the signature.. :P)Maybe we should recruit him?

He looks kind of inquisitive. Not happy with the head at all.
Check out my Uber sharpening skillz
1am here and time for bed.
I think i might make the other arm a chainsaw arm for some good ripping flesh action. moving the missles to the chest top area.
hmmm i guess i will have to thicken up the chain and make it bulkier. Its too hard to see.

Just in case i want that arm. i guess i'll make the shoulder armor and then wait for ninjas sketch.

Get some more detail in that body! GO!
Only had enough energy to beef up the proportions some.

new proportions look much better, in my opinion.

Ok i think the hipoly is done other than i might make some new feet and beef up some parts.
yeah, make new feet, maybe add a bit of detail to the upper legs on top, but the rest looks cool
keep it up!
