havent settled on this colour scheme yet (very close to picking 7 instead, or going back to unmodified 10). Blocking out areas, getting rough spec values etc at the mo
noticed his torso is maybe a bit short so might stretch that out a bit
I love the Rooster General! Nicely transferred concept, and I greatly enjoy the iridescence showing on the feathers. I'd say keep the feathers blue. Can't wait to see the wings textured.
I do like the colors on the feathers aswell, although I think you may want to desaturate a little your colors on the clothing and let the lighting do the rest, your normals are not showing up as much as they do on the untextured part, which is a shame when you see the high quality of the model/normals...you can also put color in the specular colors to add more depth without having to contrast your texture too much.
looking forward to it man, great execution
well, I don't know if this is the best scheme but times running out, I'm just going to see what I can make of it
edit: vahl I've tried to follow your advice but I don't know how successful I am- granted it still needs a lot of tweaking anyway. Its only my second normal mapped model and I'm still not too sure how to bring out the normals as much as possible. I am planning to add texture to the material and tie in the spec, so hopefully that will push things a bit more
what kind of talk is that? you're in the home stretch. the vast majority of the work is behind you, not ahead! i think all vahl is saying is that you might want to tone down the psychedelic jumpsuit colors just a bit so that the iridescent feathers really pop. if you're really hurting for time some of those areays i'm sure you could really get away with only a color map and you'll be fine. don't worry man, this guy is looking awesome and we're not going to let you bail so close to the finish
Rooster, as much as you seem to want to in your panicked state, I will not let you shoot yourself in the foot. Now that you're scrambling to finish, all you need to do is to go back a little bit and follow your own work with regards to the color. In order to illustrate this point, I've adjusted the coloring to match #4 off of that color variations study you did here: http://www.rooster13.plus.com/variations.jpg
Because the lovely iridescent feathers as well as the really superb modeling job you've done are getting lost in that psychotic 70's jumpsuit he's currently wearing The modeling work is so good that you need to be using the colors to let the forms show through, and to highlight specific areas, like the head. With the colors as loud as they are, it's a much more difficult visual read than it should be. Here's the paintover:
come on Rooster! Home stretch! Get the colors to work for your design, not against them, and this will be one of the top entries without a doubt. Don't lose your head
heres the progress.. big thanks to gauss for diverting my lemming-like sprint off a big (but admittedly funky) cliff. Unfortunately I've got to hit the sack soon so I can spend all day tomorrow working on chinese checkers, whilst dreaming of finishing this guy.. then I get another couple of hours to finish before deadline. GuBLAH.
Well, presentation leaves something to be desired, but thats what you get leaving it 10 bloody minutes before the bloody deadline..*hands shaking*. All in all I'm pretty happy it turned out the way I wanted, although theres plenty Id like to have done better. Big thanks to gauss and everyone who commented on my work, and cheers POLYCOUNT! WAAR! (good luck everyone!)
Love it man! Glad you kept some of those intense colors, they really help in making him stand out. Glad you didnt completely cave to peer pressure with the colors
Impressive job! I really dig the colours, and actually that little cutaway shot of the back in the beauty render made me do a double take, I thought it was a photo of a Warhammer miniature, something about the lighting gives it that quality.

still got a chunk of work to do, but I think I can go to bed knowing I havent destroyed a month of work
You've turned that around into a stunning general. The muted tones work so much better.
Get that gun textured and get rendering.
