wings are just scribbles dude have no fear
aesir: you shall have one
I aught to mention theres a whole lot more planned, this is just anatomy and proportions stage
i think you're forcing the anthropomorphization a little too much--why not run with the concept of doing just a big ol' rooster? he's starting to look too much like angel-type concepts, which is very confused symbolic territory if you ask me. just my two bits... me, i'd much rather see a big dragon chicken or something
Why not a biped rooster with a hunched rooster like rig?
But try too keep the elements of the first one like the messy shoulder feathers and a larger or fatter, but still masculine look.
hmm, I'll keep your points in mind gauss they make a lot of sense- however I'd like you to bear with me and reserve judgement a wee bit longer, as I think where I'm aiming for the design will work. Trust me
I'll get his backstory written down soon so it all makes a bit more sense.. suffice to say he's an alien and earth roosters are actually a fragment of their genetic code, lost in time and space. something like that. This version will not be the final revision
If the torso is vertical you can't put the thigh bone inside (which probably evolved to be inside to allow the birds to be bipedal while keeping ballance) so it makes sense to move it outside.
Colonial Sanders must be turning in his grave. Great design, dude. Certainly different. The torso looks sort of odd with that head, though. Gives the look of cut and paste.
haha! when the Roosterran army discovered the existance of the Colonel (who had been reborn countless times in the growth-vats) and his empire a great war broke forth, culminating at the Battle of Kentucky which saw the Colonel trapped in his re-inforced bunker. Moments before he shot himself the bunker was pulverised by a barrage of LaserShell missiles from the colossal flagship Eggzterminator (aaargh!). The liberated fowl were genetically re-born into modern Roosterrans by awekening their long lost genetic seed, with the revalation that this new breed posessed even greater strength, agility and vicious fighting instinct. All those centuries being mistreated and genetically tinkered with by the Colonels minions had create a super-breed!
owuld much rather see this as more of a mutated evolved bird,, more bird proportions, instead of a regular chicken head stuck onto a 100% human body, then that stuck on some muscular goat demon legs, i'd like to see his body large and more bird like.. no human muscle structure,, wings that have evolved into a hand like shape,, almost bat like, skiney scaley clawed chicken legs, more twisted, and evil,,
i'm with Rhino. i love the detailing and the outfit overall, but i think it'll make a bigger impact if you resist anthropomorphizing it so much, right now it really does just seem like a great looking rooster head on a pretty stock humanoid body. the legs are cool but they don't push far enough, it's time to crank up the chicken knob on the mix controls! i am really enjoying how you're rendering these concepts though, still, the lines read very well.
I was totally amazed for the blacky stuff of the first concepts. I really think that you should get back to that
Original and deadly! what more could we ask?
aargh dillema! I know damn well you have a good point but I'm really enjoying this direction.. I think I will finish this particular concept so I've got that in reserve and then adapt it using your suggestions and see how it works. I know the head does stick out like a sore thumb but I haven't really attempted to re-integrate that yet so.. I dont know will see how it looks later
jhotun thanks man I will work more of that that back in (left arm most likely) and I'm going to see how wings look back on him (he is from an airbourne regiment)
I think it's looking pretty cool, and if you are liking the direction it's going in, then keep pushing it in that direction. Can't please em all. I think it's far more important to the quality of the finished piece that you personally are happy with the concept, than that it has the approval of others.
that felt like a big step in the right direction.. thanks to all who suggested changes! gauss I know I'm not explicitly following your directions at the moment but I am keeping everything you say in mind . There will probably be some who don't like the wings.. its practically the first time I've ever drawn some. so- I'm going to give them my best shot before I look at removing them. If anyone has wing-tips so to speak please hit me
cheers for the advice poop!
I think that the shape of the wings look cool. Maybe the feet seems a bit little.
One thing that i would think is on how this animals (do not know the name in english, in spanish is "Gallo") defend or attack. They use the big claw on the back of the feet as a very deadly weapon, so maybe giving that more importance would enhance the feeling of the animal evolution.
Also, feathers coming out from open sides of the armor would totally rock! You know, alpha channels would do a great job there
I really like the armor... and yes, I agree with killingpeople. He needs "cockfighting" blades.
EDIT: Just noticed that the tubes on the lower legs appear to end in jets of sime kind... that are not in a good position for jumpjets. Jet-assisted kicks, perhaps, like in Bubblegum Crisis?
hrm, yeah, you could get pretty creative with the comb, maybe have it go all the way down his back. thats kind of gross when you think of it all fleshy, but kind of cool, too
I had a brief look at cockfighting stuff earlier but forgot all about it! I'll go back an check it out. About the jets- on his back between his wings will be a proper jetpack for enhanced aerial combat, the feet jets are for manouvering (and jet assisted kicks sound pretty cool!)
I´m loving all those feathers coming out the armor.
Here at the job someone suggested that the red parts (do not know the name in english) could be made of metal.
you are going to have a fun time with alpha channels
Gah, lost my post, let's see if I can remember all I wanted to crit:
Are you going to shade the torso and leg armor in the same way as the arms? Since right now it looks like you have nice, protective armor for the arms and somewhat flimsier stuff (cloth?) covering his vitals.
What are those tubes running on the outside of his legs? Muscle enhancments, fuel for a jumpjet (support for the wings, many birds jump straight up in the air ot get a good start) or something else? Some more detail on the tubes would be nice.
The flaps on his head (called a comb (top) and a wattle (under)) has to be green, right?
I would have given that gun a little extra length and moved the grenadelauncher forward and up.
thanks for the comments-
jhotun, believe it or not my very first sketch on paper gave him a huge metal comb, all jagged.. I'm planning to give him some head protection so I'll see how that works out..
cubik, great crit man. The body armour is supposed to be some kind of advanced kevlar type padding that dissipates blunt force across large areas of itself (somehow ) when I get to the colouring phase I will try to indicate that it is not an entirely normal material. The tubes are indeed jump jets, to aid his flight with his jetpack and wings. Tubes will get more lubbin once Im happier with everything else, the hands just aint doing it for me atm.. also the feet will have a bit of armour
I dunno about green comb ofcourse there will be green somewhere The gun I left intentionally a bit forward-heavy and unusually balanced, as if he could lean into it and let it fall to counteract the incredible kickback

and
edit: the hands will probably change a bit later. I'll aim to complete the concept by the end of this week I reckon then full steam into modelling

I cheated a bit with the hands and made them rough in 3d then drew over
nice work so far man, the new feet and hands fit a lot better.
